just want to put this out there- lets say we go 4-1 down stretch Favre averages 2 tds and throws 4 picks down stretch- he would have 30 tds and 15 ints- about 3600 yards and have engineered a team too a 8 game turnaround and division title. If QB is the most important position- which QB boasts those stats and leads his team to a division title and possibly 2 seed? let me know your thoughts
He definitely deserves to be in the discussion as of right now. And if he puts up numbers like you said there's a good chance he'll win. Kurt Warner's the biggest threat to Favre getting the MVP though. He's having a great year (minus the fumbles). I don't see Rivers or Brees as a threat because their teams probably won't even make the playoffs. And the Cowboy's season was really hurt because Romo got injured so that'll hurt his chances.
who cares. Jenkins is far more valuable to this team at this point. If you arent taking your teams most valuable player, hes not the MVP, period.
I think Favre will definitely be in the discussion if the Jets finish the way we expect them to. The crazy part is he isn't even the MVP of the team up to this point, that honor goes to either Jenkins or Leon or you could even make a case for Jones being team MVP. In the end though, who cares, Favre is starting to play really well and if he keeps it up we may end up going to the SB, which is all that matters.
who cares are the people whose opinion actually matter. the people who vote on the MVP. and they would most likely vote for Favre before Jenkins. I'm not taking anything away from Jenkins but that's how it normally works.
No way. As Favre as 'real' MVP goes it's probably 1. Jenkins 2. Favre 3. Jones/Leon (O-line deserves some credit but that's more of a group effort IMO) Jenkins has been steady all year long. But Favre has been the MVP the past few weeks. Jones and Leon have made some great plays throughout the year but at no time could we have ever jumped on their backs and let them carry us to a win.
Considering no defensive player has ever been named league MVP (correct me if i'm wrong) , which includes the likes of L. Taylor, Reggie White, Ronnie Lott etc. I don't think they are going to start with Kris Jenjins. Reggie White was much more dominating than Kris Jenkins and They still gave the MVP to Favre 3 times.
No b/c he played mediocre football for half a season. He's playing great now and has been playing very well the last 3-4 games but he was medciore the forst half of the season so he'd have to really elevate his game the final 5 weeks.
every QB has had mediocre games. if you look at overall stats then you'd know he definitely deserves to at least be in the discussion. honestly, the only one who would be ahead of him right now is kurt warner i think
Farve will be in the discussion because he is Farve. Does he deserve to be in the discussion based on his play so far? Probably not.
I think he's in the discussion since his name is Brett favre but if it wasn't he'd be wroking his way into the discussion. he has been playing great football for us lately. I hope he wins it b/c it will mean he's still playing great the rest of the year.
of course he'll have to continue to play well. but i believe he can, and he'll have to to carry on momentum through the playoffs. It should also be noted that the mvp candidates this year are weaker than last..
Man, the least substantial franchise in football makes the most substantial play of the season. Ironic, isn't it?
Hows is that a blind assumption? Most of this site will agree he is not even the MVP of this team - more less the whole league. People are acting like Farve is playing like Tom Brady or something. He isn't. He is managing a good team and has cut out his mistakes that now give us a chance to win. Is his experience starting to pay off. Absolutley. Did he single handedly will our offense into greatness? Well, do you beleive that? He has a great offense line, a great running attack, and a great defense backing him up. Now all he needs to do is not fuck up the 5 and 10 yard outs he is throwing. He is not fucking that up and I love him for it. But it does not = MVP.
I agree that Favre may not be the MVP of the team, but you also need to look at what he has meant to the team. Even the players said they all looked to Favre in the overtime versus the Pats. If you want to discount Favre, IMHO Warner should not be as high up either. Look at the division he is playing in. Most of his gaudy numbers have come against much weaker opponents.
