Oh and Brandon Marshall can go fuck himself. It was clear what Bly was doing at that point as he was laughing on the sideline.
The rule should be changed to: If the game stops due to injury the player can not return to the field until the next change of possession. AORN, they only have to miss 1 play. I guarantee if tis rule were in place shit would be different. Besides, it would give real injured players a chance to be treated better on the sidelines if they didn't feel they had to rush to get back. It's a win-win.
Agreed, but don't you think he gets maybe a fine for admitting he did it? Although I maybe used to strong a work, "fake." It sounds like he was hurt, but just not as bad as he pretended. Still, this is a weired article. The Broncos players are saying that Jets fans suck for booing their injuries. But the Jets fans only booed because they thought they were faked/exaggerated, and if they were then the booing is appropriate. And Dre Bly admitted his was faked/exaggerated. So, on what basis do the Broncos players have to be upset iwth Jets fans? They admitted there was some truth to what Jets fans suspected.
I see your point but... 50 seconds left in the fourth, Jets down by 4, ball on the opponent's 40. Favre throws a strike, twenty yard gain, gets tackled hard, breaks his pinkie on his non-throwing hand. Has to come out. They tape him up, Kellen throws an incompletion... ...and Brett Favre stays on the sideline for the rest of the game?
Also, everything Marshall had to say about the Jets fans being classless is COMPLETELY NEGATED by the fact that Bly admits he was dogging it. Of course they were booing! You know what LT said about the Pats, "If you're not cheating you're not trying?" I think Shanahan and his clearly scripted fake injuries and ice-time-outs is a much worse "gamesman" than Belichick. Imagine if a Jets-Patriots game had ended the way the Broncos-Chargers game did. There would be rioting in the streets of New York.
Exactly. and btw, don't forget under 2mins. you get charged a timeout there and the player can comeback in because of that.
At the end of a game a timeout is also called because of an injury. You can limit the change to a stopping of the game clock or a timeout/CoP.
Fixed that for you Dre. “Once I saw Brett was trying to hurry up and catch us off balance, I guess I pulled a dick move and stayed on the ground.”
Goodell needs to make a statement about this kind of behavior. Something along the lines that it will not be tolerated in the future and that those guilty face suspension, fines, and even being banned from the NFL. The integrity of the game demands it--I'm sick of cheating be it with steroids, filming, or this latest bullshit.
It's like... even if it's a legal play... even if it's not gonna get you a fine and it's a smart move... how can you call yourself a professional football player (NAY!) a professional MAN when you pretend to be hurt? Is this soccer? Has it come to this? If I was Goodell, I'd give Mike Shanahan the passive aggressive mindfuck my Dad used to give me in these situations: "I'm not going to hit you. I'm not going to ground you. I'm not going to do anything. I'm just so disappointed in you. I'm so disappointed." Actually, fuck that, take his first rounder. It didn't stop me from smoking pot and it won't stop Shanhan from shady plays.
Yes. Complete dick move. This is just unbelievable, that he would to admit that. I hope they continue to get booed at all their games. Interesting idea about a rules change, although the objections raised here are weighty enough. Still, the League might one day need to address it. It really seemed to have a big impact yesterday, the momentum had shifted our way and then got deaded in flagrant fashion. If other teams (NE) follow this, we'd be looking at yet another sport debased by flopping. The NBA had to deal with this recently. Everyone loathes it, if I was a Denver fan yesterday or if the Jets pulled something like this I'd be cursing my own players like a maniac. Please, wait till you retire or get cut before you start acting, you might end up as the next OJ
I've seen this kind of crap before and even though it isn't technically violating a rule, it needs to be altered in some way. I actually don't have a problem with a player pulling this every now and, but the Broncos did it to the point of obnoxiousness this Sunday. What's to stop a team playing the Colts (who always run the no-huddle) from faking an injury after every big play when they want to make an adjustment? The NFL needs to require a player to be out at least 3 plays. That way the drive is either extended or done by the time the player can return to the field, but I don't think it keeps guys with legit minor injuries (wind-knocked out or cramps) from being kept out too long.
