The worst mood swing in the history of this board was probably after the Chicago loss in 2002. Then again, I wanted to cry after that loss, too. Wayne Chrebet superman? Ugh.
lol yeah it's kinda funny how us losing to a good football team has everyone pissing on them selves, i love the "now we may go 10-6" and the "we better be careful of the dolphins" people
That's the way it always works around here regardless of the team. If the yanks or Mets win 3 in a row they are great if they lose 3 in a row they are the worst, if the Jets or Giants have a nice win streak they are great but if they lose it "exposes" them. That's just the way it goes unfortunately.
Its our culture, we cant help it. They only way its going to change is if this franchise gets some consistency and starts winning.
I'm with Turk; we should start a parallel website called www.GreenParanoidNation.com Or have a separate forum for the paranoids; at least the mods will have someplace to move this stuff. As for the loss; a wake-up call at a good time. If the Jets wake up and get it in gear I see no problems. If they did not learn a valuable lesson then they deserve what happens to them. We have the personnel to go far into the playoffs this year, but you don't make that happen by playing poor football. I am a firm believer that there are no gimmies in this league. If you give a team a reason to think they can win; they often will.
Why wouldn't the mood shift? We looked completely flat and disinterested on Sunday, and the two big wins before that will mean nothing if we're not prepared for the playoffs.
It used to be called "sobering up". There were people here talking SB, #1 overall seeding, etc... As it turns out, this team wasn't as great as people thought they were. All the flaws in this team that were glossed over during the streak came back and smacked fans square in the face. Now the reality has set in and folks put the green koolaid down for a moment of sobriety. They now realize that the Miami game just might make or break this season and they are rightly concerned about that. Don't let your hatred of Miami cloud your vision. Miami is a damn good football team and can beat us just like the Raiders did. You just can't take any team for granted anymore especially when you're talking about the schizophrenic New York Jets and its idiocyncracies. Do we really know which Jets team and more importantly, which Jets CS will make the flight to SF? A better question might be this: Have we ever won in SF? I'm not sure we have but I'm worried about which Jets team walks on the field this Sunday and that's the problem. Jet Fans really haven't had alot to hang their hats on. We've had glimpses of greatness but this franchise, for whatever reason, has always come up short except for one time almost 40 years ago. I'm sure if the Jets had played well and still lost a close game to Denver, you wouldn't be reading the pain and angst from people but that wasn't the case. The Jets phoned the game in last Sunday. They didn't simply lose, they gave a half assed effort and fans watched it at home and soaking wet at the stadium. I don't blame fans one bit for not sitting in the rain watching this team phone a game in for hours on end. That's what generating this anguish guys. I don't know which team shows up this sunday. Worse yet, I don't know which team plays this season to the finale or even IF this team will play hard every sunday until the regular season is over. Its not like the CS is giving me the warm and fuzzies either. That Mangini, for perhaps the first time, acknowledged his staff's failure to prep this team and keep them properly focused. He actually got angry God bless his heart. He should be up in Sutton's and Schott's asses with a freakin pitchfork. He should get in the teams faces as well for taking last sunday off. Its up to the team to give its fans reason to hope and have faith. They have 4 games to git er dun.....
I was part of the "Rhodes is overrated thread", but by no means does that imply that I am not consistant in my evaluation/expectations of the Jets. As you can see I hardly ever post simply becuase of your observation.
i dont think any secondary that includes rhodes and revis it not decent problem is when we play the type of d we did the other night we take our best players off the field or out of position and bring in guys who if were good enough to start would not be in the nickel and dime package
They are one of the teams we have struggled against historically but we haven't played them alot either. The only years we were the favorite and lost were 1986 and 2001 and SF was a playoff team both times. We were better in 1998 but it was week 1 and we had alot of new players. I was more worried about this game before last week thinking they would take these guys lightly but I know we are winning.
This is a stupid thread. Did the optimists who posted here even watch the game this past Sunday? It doesn't sound like it. I am not saying SOJ is the right attitude, but the fact is that the Jets have four regular season games left. They can use them to get wins, and get the team in shape for a good playoff run, or not. On Sunday the team did not look good. Where will they go from here? The optimists have no better basis on which to assume it's the former than anyone else here can make a different argument. If message boards were only la di da, whistling past the graveyard, there'd not be much point to them. Takes all kinds I guess. But personally I would torch this thread.
All the threads like this in the world won't change the fact that our pass defense sucks. Blame it on Rhodes or anybody else you want but the fact is that we are 30th in the league. If you don't think that is reason enough to be really worried then you are an idiot.
There are no convincing wins left. This was a game to set a tone, and the tone they set was SOJ. The remaining games are games that they should absolutely win, but after Sunday I'm predicting they lose 3 of them. How anyone could watch that game and still believe that this team can do anything this year other then lose in the first round (if they get there) is beyond me.
Who cares about a tone? They set a tone beating NE and Tennessee back to back on the road. Sunday was a slip up, it doesn't erase all the good that has been done. Did the Giants set a tone getting blown out by Minnesota last year at ahome in their last game of November? We win these next 4 a tone is set as AFC East Champs and possible #2 seed. You can win 4 in a row w/o the first one so all that matters right now is bouncing bakc and beating SF and it doesn't matter how good or bad SF is we just need a win.
I'm with you and having a complete fool for a coach doesn't help. He really believes this shit about him being smart. Two teams, Oakland and Denver that can't stop the run so he decides to throw the ball the majority of the game. He really thinks he is surprising someone with that. This past week was the worst yet. Jones gets 100 yards in the first quarter and he stops running the ball after that. Put the ball back in the hands of a QB who thinks he is Favre II with a defense who can't stop a thing.
Did you watch the game? Jones had the 2 nice runs but they bottle dup our ground game the rest of the day. The holes weren't there, we were setting but 2nd and 3rd and longs b/c of it. I had a problem w/ that philospohy against KC nit on Sunday. On Sunday it was a lack of execution all around.
Think about what you said - with 5 games left in the season, in a tight division and conference, playing to get to the playoffs at least and for playoff seeding at best, they had, in your words "a lack of execution all around". What does that say about this team?
