^^You're trippin' bro--or you're attempting to communicate some abstract truth--I'll keep my eyes and ears open just in case.
My biggest problem with Gholston is his apparent lack of effort. In one recent game this year (I think it was the Titans game), he got blocked out of the play and began to pursue the runner down field and it looked to me like he was jogging and looked perfectly happy to arrive after the ball carrier was already down. Instead of this kind of slow trot, shouldn't Ghost be running after ball carriers like a Mangini runs after the Mr. Softee truck? I was watching the Broncos game over the web so it was hard to see the plays in detail, but from what I hear he chased Cutler like he had shit his pants. What gives with this guy? Is he overweight or unmotivated? Running down a tackle doesn't have anything to do with being accustomed to a new position.
I haven't heard one positive word about Gholston from anywhere. That is troubling. I don't expect much, but he hasn't done anything noteworthy.
He looks like he's never played a down of football before in his life. He's awful and it would take a miracle for him to be an effective NFL player. i'm not saying it's impossible that he becomes a good player, but right now it looks like he will have a very short career
Let's hope it doesn't take them as long as it did with Dslob to figure out whether he's any good. Let's especially hope they don't pull a another Bryan Thomas, and resign a guy who stinks for 4 straight years to a SECOND long-term deal based upon half a season's performance against weak competition. Thomas and Dslob =millionaires many times over, but have done squat for the jets.
Back when I was doing TC reports, I secretly felt bad that i couldnt in good faith say much of anything positive about him. He didnt show anything. i always try to spend extra time watching the new guys to put something in the reports. I wrote glowing stuff about Leon, Vilma, Favre, Cotchery, Revis, and others when they were in their first Jets camp. But nothing really to write home about with Gholston. He better get the opposite of the sophomore jinx next year.
Gholston was a high risk/high return kind of pick. We have no idea yet if he'll turn out or not. I'm not all that worried at this point. Maybe he'll do what James Farrior did and turn from an iffy OLB in a 3-4 into a dominant ILB once Harris is ready to give the job up? For everybody complaining about the pick, put yourself in the Jet's shoes on the 6 last year and ask yourself how you could have done anything differently given the team's flaws and who was available. Gholston is a lot like D'Brick in '05 - a stellar talent who doesn't really fit the typical job description and was forced on the Jets at the slot they took him. I wouldn't give up on him just yet. Unlike D'Brick I didn't like this pick from the get-go, but I see nothing the Jets could have done differently given the situation so I'm holding my breath and hoping the talent comes through.
Gholston was a bust before he was drafted and I told all you that. Now let's here from the enablers to say he needs three more years to develop. Please make fools of yourselves again.
Yeah he's gonna take 3 years and $20 million in guaranteed money to develop into a filthy rich terrible football player
At the time Gholston was the right pick. The Patriots probably would have snapped him up if we didn't take him. There were rumors that NE was talking to KC about getting their pick right in front of us because they knew the Jets would take Gholston if he were available. So I'm pretty sure they liked him a lot as well. While Gholston hasn't panned out so far, I'm not ready to give up on the guy yet. Look at Woodley and how much the guy progressed from year 1 to 2. So I am hopeful that Gholston will show something next year. But I do admit he's done a big fat nothing so far and is the least performing pick in the top of the draft.
After McFadden was gone I _wanted_ the Jets to take Gholston, I admit it. But I have neither the time nor the inclination to watch video of every college game Gholston ever started. I bet if I did do such I thing I would start to wonder if this kid is as good as his sack numbers and workout numbers suggest. Someone in the scouting department should have seen that this kid didn't deserve to be taken at #6 for OLB, DE maybe, but not OLB. He's just not that mobile. Vertical leap is supposed to be an indicator of first step quickness, well not with Gholston cuz he can jump but he's slow. And his 40 time wasn't really that great, it was just good compared to other players of equal strength. At 4-3 DE Gholston can be a productive starter in the NFL, he's not mobile enough for LB. Just trade him to a team that can use what he's got. Maybe KC will take him.
He wasn't motivated in college. Now he is in the NFL. He already has 20 million to his name. Just for signing that contract. That is A LOT of money. Giving that away isn't going to motivate an already lazy DE converted LB to play up to his potential in this league. It only tells him that all he has to do is show up and he is rich. "Who cares if "I" contribute or play remotely well, "I'M" rich." Just stupid... EDIT: I'm a Buckeye fan. I seen this coming from a million miles away. I hope I eat what I have been preaching since he got drafted, but I doubt I do. He wasn't even close to being the best player on that Buckeye D. Not even close, yet, he was a six spot in last years draft. Just silly...
Absolutely no. You never sell low! Ed you're kidding right? PS - I doubt he's worth a 3rd rounded at this stage. Plus you can't get someone to take that cap hit.
You guys are unbelievable. You don't cut a guy after 12 games his rookie season. I admit he's a ghost...but let's wait at least a bit longer. Hell maybe he'll have a huge game against the Niners. The Broncos game was played in a hurricane on mud.
I wish I could get paid 20 million for a job I'm totally unqualified for. Damn those family genetics!
