Are the WRs really that bad?

Recently a lot of people have been claiming our WRs have trouble getting open. They are not exactly Get Open Machines like Steve Smith, but they do get separation. Here are some vids of them doing so:

    http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80b37854
(Cotch gets open on 4th and 1 due to PA. Maybe PA is a good idea)

    http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80cc26d2
(Coles gets open in the middle of the field)

    http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80b35ccd
(best play of the year, BF impales Coles with the ball for a TD against ARI)

The bad news is I watched all the vids at nfl.com looking for ones that make the Jet WRs look good at getting open and this is all I found. I think some people are being too harsh to our WRs, but we do need to put someone out there who can just plain get open.

It's funny that people say our WRs can't get open when the camera doesn't even pan downfield 4/5 times.

coaching and schemes... not the WRs. They don't become inept overnight.

Coles and Cotch are hard working, gritty, sticky-handed receivers who are SLOW. Its that simple.

The way our Offense is designed is to get 4-5 yards a play. Mangini wants to have long, clock controlling drives. The problem with this is that we need 5-6 first downs a drive to score, and we also get a lot of 3rd and 6's. Some games, this works great and we control the clock and manage the game. However, it hasn't been working the last few weeks and we have been losing to bad teams. i would love to see how many passes are thrown between 10-20 yards compared to <7 yards.

Eh, we've got the worst recieving corps in the NFL. So your situation could be worse.

I think it's all play calling. We need more intermediate routes. All we ever see is short passes, screens and the occasional deep ball for Coles which gets picked off. You will never convince me that Favre can't make the medium range throws even at this point in his career. Schott Jr is nothing without his garbage shifts and motions which fool nobody any more.

The game plans have been really iffy for about half the year. Cotchery and Coles should be running a lot of intermediate routes 10-15 yards down the field to take advantage of their quickness both before and after the catch. Instead they are running really short slants and outs mixed in with the odd long ball heaved their direction. Neither of them is enough of a burner (Cotchery really not at all) to make the flys profitable.

It looks that way from the first camera angle, but at the end they show a different angle and Coles did beat his man.

I have to go by what I read from people that have been to the game, or what I can see from the limited angles I get from watching on TV. If anybody has access to the coach's tapes, then we could watch and actually dissect what happened. But I'm not sure that those are available to people outside the NFL. From what we see on TV, no they don't get any separation, and that's what I've been hearing from people that I assume see the games live. It's either that or our QB is absolutely done, because just from the results nothing else makes sense. Either the WRs get no separation, the QB can't get them the ball on time, or the play design and play calling is horrific. The former and latter are not mutually exclusive, in fact they are quite likely to occur in tandem.

Is there any way to get the coaching film? It's worth re-watching all the Jets games, even losses, if you can get your hands on them. You get 3 camera angles and you actually get to see every man on the field.

So they could get open up until 2 weeks ago but now they can't? It's just another excuse in a long line for fans of the QB.

I don't see anyone here defending favre. He's played shitty no doubt but he can't take all the blame. People have been saying our wr's can't get seperation all season remove the hatred for favre or wool from your eyes.

That thread about cotch and coles being the best wrs favre ever had was rediculous. But let's be real our qb hasn't played well our d has stunk our play calling is crap. Jones only gets 10 touches u serious? But yeah junc let's put it ALL on favre

Did I say it was ALL on Favre? No but people keep trying to make excuses- it's the WRs, it's the coahces, it's the OL- well how about Fvare take some balme as he has played awful football. These WRs are damn good, they didn't just get bad in the last 2 weeks.

Favre has looked out of sync most of the season. Arizona was really the only game he didn't.

Outside of the Ari game and the NE and Ten games Favre hasn't looked very good. He reverted back to his pre-Buffalo form. is that on the WRs or Brett? I'm sure it's a combo of both but when your QB isn't playing well it hurts everybody.

I think both Coles and Cotch have been playing injured for the majority of the season.
