What is it you have a hard time understanding? Do you really not understand the difference between a QB who led the JETS to the playoffs three times and a QB who didn't play from high school until this year? Does it not compute with you why Jet fans would be more interested in a guy who was their QB for a long time? I don't see anything so hard about that. Nobody is wishing he was still here or thinking he's coming back, so I don't know why you keep mentioning that as if anyone is arguing with it. I post "endlessly" about all things Jets, past and present. I post about Ken O'Brien a lot too, he played for the Jets for a long time, too. It's a Jets board, past and present players are going to be discussed, especially when they are still playing and very much a factor in our current season and division. I really don't get what your problem is with that and why it offends you so much.
That's not fair; if we were not flirting closely with the cap boundary there would have been no immediate reason to let Chad walk.
With Chad here, receivers could run at half speed and get to where they were going to have to be to catch the ball, too. Our recivers have been quitting on the longer routes and is the reaason for some of the overthrows.
I think they only had until 4pm the next day to make the move, something like that. Otherwise they could have gotten something of value back, even though teams knew they'd have to trade him.
See, this is where you lose. I was not talking about the distance. I was talking about passes with speed and accuracy. Or perhaps you want to back off the standings nonsense and claim that Chad throws passes with good speed and accuracy. I mean top NFL qb level good, not compared to Pee Wee league.
Favre takes more chances than Chad. Always has always will. They're different types of QB's. Chad is good at consistently putting his team in position to beat average and lesser teams. He doesn't take a lot of chances and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He can beat the better teams on occasion with a solid team effort. To beat the better defenses you generally need to take more chances and fit the ball into tighter spots. This is some of what Favre brings to the table. Has Favre played poorly the past 2 weeks. Yes. But so have a lot of Jets, and the play calling has been questionable too. edit: I've said this before and I'll say it again. If the fins make the playoffs and they face Baltimore, Tenn, or Pitt, Pennington won't do shit. That is why you have a guy like Favre because he is much more likely to be able to move the ball against defenses like that.
Everyone knows you are a charter member of the Chad Fan club here. Your attempts to point to the asserted reasons are laughable - perhaps you really can't see that. Fine. Still waiting for your point about the standings, though. Heh.
Exactly. The Jets more than knew what they were getting into when they brought in Favre, and they knew they would have to let Chad go. There was no time on the clock.
This is what you're down to? I think we're done here. No need in pointing out the obvious one more time, you're too dense to get it.
I think the major difference betweeen the 2 QBs is that Chad had to let the ball go many times before the receiver even made his cut due to Chad's velocity issues. That really means that Chad was veyry good at seeing the play in his mind and knowing where the opening would be. It is a much harder way of playing the game. Favre on the other hand has a gunner's mentally. Let the play develop and assess if the pass can be made, if that isn't there scan for more options; if there is a opening, thread it in.
I can understand being upset about these lost two inexcusable losses, but DeAngelo Hall? Really? You want to go pay this guy big money? The guy who got traded for being a nuisance to his team and causing a distraction. And then to yet again be cut only 8 games into the next season. This is where you want the Jets to spend their money? Favre has already "paid" for his salary in Jets "exposure" and jersey sales.
I just want to start out saying that I am a Vikings fan. I have always hated Brett Favre, and thought he was overrated. I got the Nfl package this year so I could watch him either A) get hurt or B) miss his first start because he got benched. After watching most of the Jet's games, I started liking him a little. The thing that really made me gain a little more respect for him, is the fact that he turned down buyout money (apparently) to go to a previously 4-12 team. He was destined for failure (Eli Manning wouldn't even let the Chargers draft him, because they were an awful team). If Favre had such an ego problem, he wouldn't even been up to this challenge. Obviously he could give two shits if he goes out in flames. I started reading thru most of the articles on this site to see what people thought about everything this season. I was and still am amazed at some of the shit people think. "Some" people act like Favre came over to their Super Bowl or bust caliber team and ruined it. Your team is not that fucking good, nor was it last year judging by a 4-12 record. I can't believe that the Jets are 8-5, your pass defense is god-awful, your o-line is not that good (Favre throws 2 yard passes in like a second, I would hope he is not getting sacked). When the receivers catch the ball it seems like they have a defender riding on their backs. Your touchdown drives (except for when Washington breaks a big one) revolve around being perfect, and converting like 4-5 3rd downs in a row. I live in Wisconsin and all the national media does is try to force feed you Brett Favre shit. Well let me tell you, that is not all his fault. No matter how much I think he is an above average qb at best, the one thing he does is carry himself really well (aside from the offseason retirement shit). Deep throws!! I watch the packer games with my buddies at the bar, so I can rip on them, and last year he threw deep balls really well, want to know why? Greg Jennings is a stud at the deep ball, not Brett. Chad Pennington went to the shitty ass (1-15 last year) Dolphins. They are 8-5this year, enough said. I also remember (I could be wrong) I was listening to a Packer game a few years ago with my friends, and the Jets with Pennington beat the Packers, with Favre as their Qb(again I could be wrong). Bottom line is both quarterbacks are good and their fans should be happy to have a classy gritty quarterback. I can't believe Favre is even starting for the Jets after the Oakland game, I haven't seen a Quarterback take a beating like that in awhile. Gus had someone shoulder him a little bit and it almost broke his back. The Nfl is, in my opinion the greatest of all sports, and it is hard as hell to win against shitty teams as well as good teams. If you can't be happy just making the play-offs sometimes and having the remote chance of GETTING to the Super bowl, this isn't the sport for you. It will affect your life, trust me.
AgentOranges, Most of the people whining about Favre are Chad Fans who wish Chad was still here. If it weren't for them, you wouldn't be seeing what you are referring to. If you realize the source of it, it is not at all amazing. It would have been entirely predictable. In fact I did predict it, as did several others here who are not enamored of all things Chadwickian.
It's completely bizarre and makes little to no sense. Many Jet fans' infatuation with Pennington is very, very comparable to Packer fans' with Favre. The difference, of course, is that Pennington played for about half as long as Favre, and was an average QB at best for us. Maybe it's the result of years and years of misery, that when a mediocre QB comes along, and the team is okay for a number of years, he becomes a God. I don't know, but the irrationality that seems to consume some fans when speaking of Pennington is really something to behold.
I think a substantial percentage, not all, but a large group, of Chad Fans tend to be younger fans for whom the Chad Era made up the bulk, maybe even the entirety, of their Jet fan history. This of course occurred after the drought years of the Kotite Era, and the Vinny years were actually few in number, especially if you cut them off after he got hurt. That one year, 99, left the team particularly hungry for a quality Qb, since Vinny had shown what could be done with one in 98, the best year for the Jets in a long, long time. His return was problematic, though, since he was not quite the same player he was before going down in 99, and the hunger for his return was not assuaged. Chad had been drafted, waiting in the wings as a first round pick, and eventually he gets in and reels off what in hindsight was his only unambiguously successful period. The Savior has arrived! Unfortunately, after his first injury, Chad never again lived up to expectations. The 04 playoffs, the deepest the team got in the Chad Era, was simultaneously for those who cared to see it the proof that Chad had a ceiling he would not go above again. But meanwhile, at least for some, a large part of the fanbase, Chad had insinuated himself into becoming the face of the franchise, with all those cute stories about how he and Herm were the interracial father and son, and Chad's concededly dogged attempts to come back whole from his recurring injuries. Some lapped all that up - it was an appealing narrative for many. Others were more concerned with results on the field, and for those fans, the appeal of Chad's presence gradually waned. In short, for some, being a Chad Fan is synonomous with their experience of being a Jet fan. But that connection is quite demonstrably no longer the case with him in Miami. Still, this remains a hard thing to accept. I am starting to think some many never quite come to accept it.
Packer fans love to sit and talk shit about Favre all day long too. They are just scared that it is against the law, that is why you think they all love him so much. Since I am a Vikings fan, alot of them feel comfortable talking shit about him around me. You would be amazed what comes out of peoples mouth. I am pretty sure they actually think they could have won 6 super bowls if they wouldn't have had to put up with his "interceptions". I know it is way out of topic, but I thought I would bring it up because it is a common misconception that everyone in Wisconsin loves Favre. I sell all over the state and get to talk to hundreds of people a month, so I get alot of opinions, and it is definetely more hate than love.
