I dont think it's "entirely" the fault of the CS or the players. It's not an either-or thing. it's easy to spot a missed tackle or a dropped pass when you (not you personally) watch the game. Spotting the lack of adjustments or inadequate gameplans/schemes is more subtle. Some of the guys here who refuse to place any blame on the CS and want to pin it all on the players crack me up. I know what game they are watching, but they dont seem to know what they are seeing- other than the most obvious lack of execution. Mangini doesnt seem to have a problem blaming players for not executing in his post-games, but of course the players have to be more subtle in their criticisms of the CS. There are a lot of reasons to be disappointed with this CS, and the players know a lot more about than we do. There is a lot of truth in this grain that was made public about being outschemed.
I think there's no question they have been out schemed in the passing game which I believe is what Cimini was referring to. However, the staff has had to figure out how to overcome glaring coverage deficiencies in their defensive backfield. Revis has been the only consistent player back there all season. A good pass rush could help mask these issues. Cimini never was able to write this in the paper. The Jets pass defense was fine against the Bills but for the one drive where they blitzed a lot and Losman hit slant after slant.
Everyone knows we have a Junior Varisty coaching staff including our players. Hopefully they keep it out of their heads and execute. This is a veteran team that should be able to create its own destiny against the two upcoming teams.
I don't think anyone is saying it's all the players. There have been a lot of criticism going towards the coaching too. Such as three pass plays out of the endzone (one of which was audibled Don). But not one of those three pass plays were completed. Are the players not to be blamed for poor execution? There's a major flaw in our defensive coaching of late, but the players aren't getting off blocks and making the tackles when they are in position. To fully blame the CS for that is foolish.
the inconsistency of the coaching staff is what really sucks. the game plan against tennessee looked so good then we get 3 weeks of blah. they all seem to come out with great schemes when they have a few extra days to game plan. maybe they need to learn to effectively manage their time better, i dont know. but its those flashes of great game planing that make me not want to give up on mangini just yet. fuck bob sutton though, fuck him with a big rubber dick to quote george carlin.
If it's all the players then that's on the coaches too. There's no way to get around the fact that poor performance in anything reflects worse on the boss than anybody else. Anybody who has managed people understands that fact. The buck either stops at the top or it doesn't ever stop anywhere and nothing gets done like it should. When things start to spiral out of control it may well be a key player who is having problems, but it's the boss who is failing.
Funny, mt take on this argument has been since Kris Jenkins play has slipped, so to has the defense effectiveness. Is it the scheme that has a 350lb man getting pushed out of the way letting the RB slide to the second level? I believe the hip injury to Jenkins has affected his play which in turn has led to a less than stellar performance by the rest of the D. If you get that push at the point of attack, it sure helps the secondary and the LB's. The coaching staff has to find a way to gain that push up front if Jenkins is not 100%.
Right on. In fact, unless he has numerous multiple sources, it's downright irresponsible for Cimini to say, "if you talk to some of the players....." Blah, blah, blah. He makes it sound like it's matter-of-fact talk throughout the locker room. Sounds to me like Cimini enjoys kissing Baker and Coles' asses, seeking them out and then looking for any morsels he can "report" on, then claiming he talked to "some of the players" just because Coles probably said something like, "I'm not the only one who feels that way." He talks to a few malcontents and all of a sudden its a consensus. STFU and play already. The only outscheming this team needs to worry about is executing better. The tackling has been ridiculous, the penalties are over the top and there is no pass rush. Outschemed my ass.
I'm sure you have heard the adage where there is fuel there is fire & I am sure since Cimini's position is at stake he would not write such BS in a major newspaper like the NY Daily News unless he has checked, double checked, triple checked the story before posting it
In most cases I would agree with you, but I think it's obvious we're being out-schemed and if players want to say anything about it, they have to do it anonymously or they'll get benched like Baker did. It hasn't all been about lack of execution.
The tackling last week was atrocious. Schemes aside, it's not as if the players have played great fundamental football.
No, because Cimini is almost as big of a horse's ass as you and writes garbage about 90% of the time. He's been pissed since Mangini took over because he hates the level of secrecy on the team now after getting spoon-fed articles in the past by Herm. Then he got pissed when they moved the training facility to New Jersey.
Champ, a few comments: The adage is, "Where's there's Smoke, there's fire," not "where there is fuel there is fire." Cimini has been the Jet beat writer for the NYDN since 1996. Who says his position is at stake? So newspapers never publish false information?
