Lets say the Jets and Dolphins win on Sunday. Baltimore loses to Dallas which is VERY possible. If the Pats lose either vs ARZ or @ BUF it's HUGE. Heres why. The Jets Fins game will be Sunday night. If the Pats lose to either ARZ or BUF the Jets and Fins will know before their showdown. If that happens then in the event of a TIE between the Jets and the Dolphins, they BOTH make the playoffs! I figured it out on that yahoo playoff generator. The 1st round matchup in the playoffs would then be Jets vs Dolphins in the meadowlands. So if it comes to that situation both teams could play for a TIE and have one less game to win to get closer to the super bowl. I know the teams would NEVER tie purposely but in order to get to the playoffs? It's an attractive offer! Think about it. If both teams agreed it would mean one less win to advance.
I hope the jets knock th confidence out of every being in the dolphin nation, thats an attractive offer
Yea, but the penlty the league would put on the two teams when they find out about it would be huge. I would assume the draft pick loss would probly dwarf what the pats got for spygate. Not worth it in the least bit.
only to have to play each other the following week? I think one team would go with the deal, and then on the final possesion go down and kick a field goal and say "Dumbasses believing we would really tie on purpose" It would be one thing if it didnt result in them REPLAYING the same game, the fins gain nothing here. still in the meadowlands and jets still would have home field advantage. Fins just would potentially be buying themselves a week to avoid missing the postseason. not exactly an attractive offer. It might be different if they wouldnt meet until the AFC title game, but to play again would be silly.
It's attractive for both teams because in order to advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs you only need to win ONE game. If you don't agree to the deal then you have to win 2 games to advance to the 2nd round. Like you said if anyone ever found out the penalties would be enormous but it was just a thought.
I'd sign up for this. No injuries. One kickoff at each half and the each team kneels on every single play. I'm kidding, I think.
the likelihood of two teams agreeing to tie is somewhat less than .1%. Especially hated rivals. Also, why would Miami do this? If they win, they would get a home game. I somehow doubt they'd take playing in the Meadowlands over a home game.
