Leon reminds me of a guy with the potential of Michael Turner. The difference is we don't have a guy with LT type talent to hinder his growth with us. I would like to see him get more touches for sure and get locked up with the foresight of being TJ's eventual replacement. No way does he get away like Lamont did. No way...
You damn right he's underutilized. Washington is a huge theat, a home run hitter. Our two best players on O are T Jones and Washington. We need them both to get the ball alot. A good OC would realize and do this....
I don't get how that means he's underutilized. What trends do you see there? We've won games he's gotten 1 and 3 carries in... Not to mention that he's the SECOND back beyond a top 5 rusher this season. Iunno why that's getting ignored. Maybe he's being used to where his performance is being optimized? It's not like he's the kind of guy who can take a full load kind of beating.
I think Washington is great and had made a huge difference in quite a few games this year. However, Jones was just voted team MVP by his teammates. He is going to the Pro-Bowl. You don't give Washington carries at Jones' expense. There are times when a team needs a bigger back to pound the ball between the tackles to pick up 4-6 yard chunks, which is what Jones does. Washington is explosive, but he also gets tackled too easily at times between the tackles. Washington is perfect as a change of pace back and I can see him getting 8-10 touches a game. He should be utilized more on 3rd down. The Jets in general don't run the ball enough and don't run when they should. But you don't lighten Jones' load to give the ball to Washington this year. By the way, while it is true that Gholston has been a bust so far, doesn't the success of the Jets backfield this year indicate that McFadden would have been a wasted pick?
Let's see. If you take the avg. touches Leon gets in the Wins, it's 6. In the losses it's 1.8. I guess that's just coincidence though.
Coincidence could be one of many reasons. Most of you have already determined that the reason is incompetence. How many more touches should Leon get? Just "more" in general? It's a good thing theres so many plans come up with here...I suggest emailing these things to the FO. Ever heard of the law of diminishing returns?
Our 2 playmakers are LW, and TJ. Lets get the ball in thier hands as much as possible. I, for one, DO NOT feel comfortable putting the ball in Favre's hands, and asking him to win the game for us. Leon needs at least 10 touches on offense, per game. Line him up as a Wr, or whatever. Be creative with him. He can make something big happen every time he touches the ball. He needs to become a bigger part of our game plan.
dude he never will be an NFL feature back, he just doesnt have the build for it. Look at reggie bush, they are trying to make him a feature back and he is struggling mightily running inside and more importantly STAYING HEALTHY. Leon is a weapon no doubt but i think 10 touches per game is enough to get the job done, and keep him healthy. ( Although he needs to get more screens)
If Favre retires and we are forced to go with Clemens, Ratliff or a rookie, we will almost have to go with a Titans type offense, because we are not going to do shit throwing the ball.
Dude.. He averaged 5 YPC last season... Any 'stuffing' that was done on his carries, was easily outweighed by his success...
