Sorry.. There are too many bad signs on this team. There is the failure of this coaching staff to make half-time adjustments. As a result, the opposition comes out looking better while we look flat. The players don't look fired up or motivated. There is the inability to realize that putting pressure on the QB is a great way to force big plays, sacks and poor throws. This team blitzed only a handful of times in Seattle against an AWFUL offensive line that was completely makeshift. ZERO SACKS AND ONE PRESSURE!!?? How do you not try and attack this makeshift line with zero returning starters from opening day??!! Call this Sutton if you will, but shouldn't the head coach realize when something is badly wrong on defense and make an adjustment?? Not this coach. Sorry, but I had hopes for Mangini and I was for keeping him early on when this team was just 1-2 and stuggling. Now I see that he and his staff is clueless. This team needs a killer instinct and some aggression. It goes into a prevent defense with a 3-man rush way too often. This just doesn't look like a good football team. Period.
I'll be Optimistic.. Jets add a new DC - again, he'll look like a genius when he dials up blitzes all the time Add a Safety and overll depth on the defense. This defense has pieces - I think it still takes time - Horrible coaching didn't help but, I think a good DC comes in here and can turn those pieces into a top unit The offense reverts back to what it was supposed to be - a RUN FIRST team - keep developing and adding to the OL - DO NOT LET IT ALONE like Herm/bradway I think Favre threw this offense for a loop but, it was worth a shot - now go back to the original plan. With a run 1st team and a top defense I think we can find a QB to get the job done.. Before this season NO ONE saw Tennessee doing what they are doing - I know Titans fans that were pissed off about the draft and upcoming season... But, they had a monster in the middle, an up and coming defense and a QB that be serviceable.... I'm as sick and ill as anyone about what we saw the past 4 weeks - but, I'm amazed how peopl ejust give up - a guy just called WFAN and said the Jets have been set back by signings for the next 8 years - Come on now!!!! In today's NFL any team can compete within 3 years - This team has pieces..... This team jelling and winning it all this year was a pipe dream..... GET OFF THE MATT - Keep adding piecesm the core here is decent.
Its not the fact that we have gone from 8-3 to 9-6 that bothers me the most. It's not the fact that we have lost to some bad teams. Its the way he handles the game that pisses me off. He makes some really bad decisions. In 2006 he was doing everything right because I believe he felt like he had nothing to lose because nobody expected much out of the Jets. Then when the Jets started to get some recognition and some good players were brought in here he has gotten tight and changed the way he has coached. He needs to be doing the same things he was doing in 2006 only now he would be doing it with better players. Instead he has gotten conservative and is worried about making a mistake. JMO.
I think I read somewhere that the Chiefs had lost 21 of their last 23 under Edwards. Why would you be happy to have that back?
Why does any coach "have to stay" unless they succeed in winning consistently with the talent given to them? I would go so far as to say until you when a super bowl, you don't "have to stay" AT ALL.
Absolutely, I know what Herm can do w/ talent and KC is going to be a dangerous team next year. That team has lost alot of close games while playing alot of young players and developing a young QB. If our guys played w/ half the heart of his team we'd have a 1st rd bye.
The DL is an interesting subject. I had hopes they were going to have a pretty good rotation there, and mid season Jenkins was playing great. Turns out Ellis has been decent, but the rest of the squad has been mediocre turning worse once Jenkins got banged up/tired/whatever. The DL has been a major disappointment but for Jenkins up to a point.
I wouldn't be happy, but, Herm has had a lot less talent and has had injury problems. Herm's team didn't send 7 pro bowlers, Mangini's did. Herm's team hasn't been healthy all year, Mangini's is. They are both not good HCs, but Herm may actually be a better one than Mangini. I can't remember Herm ever being quite as incompetent as Mangini was on Sunday.
I agree. If they win -- its two 10 win seasons in 3 -- usually that doesnt get you fired in the NFL. Again -- I think Mr. T. has to tell ERic -- to stop being "scared" -- you can be consistent AND creative AND agressive all at the same time.
you have to look at the context of the 10 win season, and this season, winning 10 games, when we were 8-3 at one point with a soft schedule down the stretch and our own destiny in our hands, actually reveals a coaching failure not coaching competence. this team regressed at the end of the season, that is usually a nail in the coffin for a coach, especially when the team spent money and expected results. he simply hasn't delivered if he had a chance to make the playoffs and blew it. at that point, the 10 wins become no more impressive than a 7 or 8 win season.
