Mangini fired because Favre hates playing for him. Ownership's only interest? $$

Looks like we want Favre back for next season and we got rid of Mangini. Let's call this for what it is

This is ownership saying we increased revenue by 30% thanks to great sales of Favre jerseys

This is ownership saying we have 1500~ unsold PSLs which we have to unload by the end of next year, we can't do that with a rookie quarterback at the helm.

This is ownership saying we really need Favre back or else we're going to take a hit in both PSLs AND JERSEY revenue

This is ownership saying we're interested in one thing: $$$$ and Brett Favre is a cash cow.

Just because ownership wants him back doesn't mean he still wants to play for this team.

You are correct. This was a money play by Woody pure and simple. He never gave one reason on why he fired Mangini. Not even a generic reason or the obvious ones. That's because Woody needs to sell PSL's and nothing more.

I think Mangini was fired because his team collapsed down the stretch and he started making horrible coaching decsions. And, yeah, the pressure of opening a new stadium and selling seats enters into the equation. I don't think he was fired because Favre doesn't like him. Trust me, if Favre were to come back, and play the way he did the last month of 08, he be as popular with Jets fans as a fart in Church.

Who cares about Jets fans? It's Bret Fucking Favre, and the man sells Jerseys AND PSLs.

Yeah, I'm mailing in my $30,000 PSL fee right away! Even the hint of Favre coming back does it for me!

If Favre comes back I will stop caring about the Jets. He ruined a season, got the coach fired, has the owner up his ass. It's a disaster.

If he plays like crap, I don't think hes going to be the cash cow they hope. They'd be better off to go all out to get Bill Cowher and see whats out there for QBs. Heck, if Favre doesn't have it anymore, I'd be happy to see Ratliff get a shot.

He made this season worthless for me.

If he comes back next year, chalk up another season I won't care about.

Canning Mangini less than 18 hours after the Jets season ended yesterday in humiliating fashion says a lot to me. Favre is very far from a lock for next year, PSLs or not. What kinda coach do you think we would end up with if during the interview the statement by Jets management was, "BTW, Brett will be playing for us next year because we want him to." Anybody good, like in the Parcells/Cowher echelon would say, "Go to hell", and get up and be gone in a flash.

Yeah, I about laughed my head off when Woody said this. Exactly what did Brett bring to the team that wasn't in place before he arrived?

An Owner who is only interested in money!?!? Good god, he must be removed immediately we need a blue collar owner who will listen to the fans. Maybe some of the jet fans on this board, because they are rational.

If those Favre jersey sales allow Woody to throw big money at players like Faneca, Jenkins, Pace, etc... & potentially pay the $8-$10mil per season it's rumored to take to get Cowher, then I'm glad he thinks that way.

Mangini was fired because he lost the entire team, not just Favre.

Lol what does ownership care about you? Do you have $25000 to pay for a PSL? No? Then obviously what does your opinion matter? You cheer loud at games, you plan your Sundays around your team? But can you afford 2500 per game seats? No? Who cares about you then.

It wasn't just Favre, none of the players enjoyed playing for him. They quit on him down the stretch.

What in the hell are you talking about? You clearly have no damn clue.....don't pay attention to this league, and are talking out of your ass.

You think a coaching change will convince a 39 year old QB who might need surgery to come back, learn a new system, and keep playing for us? Man, whatever you're smoking must be fucked up!

You should know that Favre almost retired when McCarthy (he's the Packers coach now) was hired and Sherman (he used to be the Packers coach) left. I added the brackets because I figured you needed the help. Now, if Favre was ready to hang 'em up after a coachign change in his mid-30s, what exactly makes you think that he'll hang around now?

He brought emotion and fun to the game for the team. The problem is Mangini squashed it out of him. He did the same thing to Chad. Did you see how fiery Chad was yesteday? Reminded me of 2002-2004 then he became robotic under mangini. Its the coach and thank god he is gone.
