All that from ONE article on ESPN. I can't wait to see what comes out over the next few days. Now I know why everyone is a cynic when it comes to the Jets. Johnson is bascially saying "we have no clue WTF we' were thinking, but we HAD to do it." I'm a big fan of having the biggest HC candidate being a guy who just retired 3 years ago and who is willing to "hear us out." No wonder this franchise hasn't won in 40 years. They actually buy that hte best to become a winning team is to change everything around until it magics itself together. Now all we have to do is find a new HC, OC, DC, make any changes they want to make, fill the player holes we have to fill, and still find a QB of the future. I wasn't as big a Mangini fan as I may have come off on this board...I thought we coached way too conservatively at the end of the season...but holy crap this is a bad move. There is ZERO LOGIC behind this move beyond "we spent money, and we didn't win the Super Bowl right after doing it. I wonder if they even realize what they've just done. The HC market was/is baaaaaaaaaare this offseason. Do you guys realize that of the coaches on the market who AREN'T retired, Mangini can easily be argued as the best coaching talent available? Even if he doesn't get a HC job right away, who here thinks he won't? Who here thinks he won't be successful? We just put two of the hottest names on the market out on the market...cause both Mangini and Schotty are going to get picked up quick. Now we have to go through this fucking bullshit again. This fucking franchise needs to grow the fuck up. At some point it has to be asked...this franchise has had 16 going on 17 coaches and has won ONE Super Bowl....at what point does it become the fault of the dumbasses running the team? Why can't we just stick with someone? Is it that fucking hard? Were the Jets THAT bad this year that Mangini HAD to go? I mean under the guy we saw Rhodes become a star...Cotchery become one of the better #2 WRs in the league...D'Brick drafted...Mangold drafted...Revis drafted...Harris drafted...Ellis' career resurrected...Kris Jenkins' career turned around...but ZOMG he didn't take us to the Super Bowl in 3 years so he'll never do it. Fuck. I'm not excited for this fucking overhaul. We didn't need a fucking overhaul. And not only that...some dude...we have no idea who...the team probably has no idea who...is going to be taking over Mangini's fucking team...an IMPROVED version of Mangini's team...and if he wins? No one's gonna give a shit, new guys a hero. The person who benefits most from this move is Woody. He fed the mob what they wanted. Shit like this is why I believe the owner and fans should just stick to being the owner and fans. I wish Mangini the best...Schotty too...Sutton....well that mofo was long overdue. Personally, I think Mangini is going to go somewhere and have a great career there. You can call the Care Police if you disagree, because I've made up my mind and decided that this franchise knows nothing but small chunks of bullshit. Fuck...even fucktarded Cleveland gave Crennel 4 years... I'm just disappointed. It's a dumb move. The only way it'll be smart is if we hire someone (Spagz is the only guy I really love as a HC candidate not named Cowher) and the team moves on to win some games. I'll say it again, this franchise needs to grow the fuck up, we need to stop buying the media fucking bi-polar bullshit that has us calling a guy genius one day and calling for his head the next, and an owner with the actual balls needed to commit.
thats why i've really stopped giving a shit.... the amount of inept that flows through this organization is beyond me.
It was never Mangini's team and that was a huge problem. Woody Johnson can do whatever he wants...at least he's not Al Davis. Johnson spent a ton of cash on new talent and Mangini's "team" collapsed after the Titans game. Everyone saw it coming...if this new and improved team didn't make the playoffs, Mangini was gone.
Um yea...this board spent 17 weeks and who knows how many years doing that. Pretty sure I can do it for one post. And it doesn't make the move any less retarded. I hope you enjoy watching us try to put the pieces back together again.
Hey JLDW--You make me think of the word "decompensating". Your post quality has gone the way of Mangini's career--very interesting at first and then somewhat questionable. This thread seems to be pure troll. Come back to the herd, bro.
I'm pretty sure Mangini got the "Win or else" speech from Woody when he dropped 140 million on contracts this offseason.....and then bringing Favre into the fold just intensified Woody's ultimatum. The fact that Woody has to sell PSL's didn't help Mangini's case either.
DeWare I love your passionate defense it always makes the board better to have the both sides. How did Miami do after dumping their coach? How about Baltimore? Listening to the press confrence this morning I got the feeling there is a lot more to this than anyone is going to admit to. Woody practically blew Tannenbaum in the press confrence and Tannenbaum brought in Mangini and they are apparently great friends. There is more to this story. Hard to tell if Tannenbaum threw him under the bus or Mangini, like Herm already has a better offer and the Jets already have their new HC wrapped up? The league needs the Jets to succeed right now. If the PSL's don't go well the NFL may well have to cough up guarantees to keep the stadium going and that impacts the Giants as well? There is a lot to this tale behind the scenes. This is big business in a desperate environment and nobody, Woody, or the league is going to risk the Jets screwing up the biggest NFL market in the country.
thats a decent way of saying that the fanbase doesn't deserve shit.... if I read your post correctly. i could find a post of me saying that somewhere in the past, because the way Jets fans act, they really don't.
It's probably true considering I'm only 20. I consider this my initiation to disappointment. I was what...12? when Parcells and BB left. Sorry for expecting more.
Right, and the Browns keeping Crenell around for this year really did wonders for them, huh? Gimme a break.
Yea, thats the implication. The next question is...why would people buy into this shit? Ignorance is a powerful thing I guess.
Yes. I don't know why people think the organization going to disclose any information publicly -- the proverbial "airing the dirty laundry." Besides, we have Coles to do that. If Tann is as good friends with Mangini as we believe, then he's not going to give any specific reasons of why Mangini was fired. Same goes for Woody from a business standpoint -- he's not gonna say, "We need to win, I need to sell PSL's, Mangini wasn't going to get it done..." because that's not a good image to portray in the public eye and he doesn't want to be the boss who talks shit about his former employees. The firing is all the speaking that needs to be done. The next definitive statement will be who Woody and Tann hire.
my heart is removed from this team to the point where I'm sitting on a throne, sipping wine as if i'm above it all. I'm not above it in any elitist way, but this illusion of superiority has made life really easy to live. This collapse is inexcusable and heartbreaking, but I won't subject my will to the pain. On my wish list is a coach who can pick up and go, but with the obvious changes made. Don't reinvent the wheel, just make it smooth so that the ride isn't as bumpy, and avoid the potholes in december against awful opponents. 7 pro bowlers and a chemistry that is reported to be beyond fantastic, so there is no reason to redo any of it, just a change here and there, and some passion thrown in to the mix and this team contends for the division next year. It doesn't seem so hard to do.... But this franchise as made a habit doing things the frustrating way, so I don't know if they'll make the obvious choice. Tanny has my confidence - so if he can pick the Revis of head coaches, the Jets are in a great spot. haha.
