I'm not saying that i don't want this guy, but it is a little scarry to me. The Giants have probably the best defensive line in football. Most teams don't have one dominant pass rusher, let alone the 3 or 4 the Giants have! How bad can you look as a coordinator, if you have Tuck, Osi, Strahan, Kiwanuka, rushing the passer?
I'm just wondering how bright his star would have been, if he had our defense?

The Giants D was still pretty effective...despite losing 2/3 of their starting LB's, Umenyiora and Strahan.

If Cowher doesn't become available...Spags is my next choice...by far.

The problem with Spags is that we're saying the exact same things abuot him as we said about Mangini. Do we really want to go down that road again and take the risk?

I personally want Cowher and if he's not available, an offensive minded coach that knows how to develop a young QB like Mike Malarkey. Remember guys, we're gonna need to develop a young QB in the near future.

Mangini couldn't hold Spag's jock in the experience department. Spags has more experience in coordinator type roles (ST in Philly, DC in NY)....Mangini had one year as the Nwe DC...and before that, wasn't he a quality control guy or something.

Mangini was more of a project than Spags would be, IMO.

Mangini was the 2ndary coach for a year or 2 I believe before he became the DC. But I agree with you, Spags has more experience.

Well let me add a point, Spags blitzes a huge chunk of the time. Also he neglected to play prevent defense down the stretch in one of their wins a few weeks back. He blitzed like wild fire. That is ballsy, and shockingly enough something we have not seen in a really really long time. regardless of having a great line, he has the chops to call the proper defenses at the proper time. He also has a top ranked defense, where as Mangini had a piss poor New England defense, one of their worst, if not the worst during their run.

Meaning that Spags is an agressive coach, that is what we want more than anything isnt it?

I agree Spags has more balls then Mangini, but how much more confident would you be in calling blitzes if we had the Giants D Line? I'm not so sure Spags would be as quick to blitz with our D Line and Secondary.

Spags turned down consideration for the Redskins HC position last year because he felt he wasn't READY to be a head coach yet. What makes you think he's ready now?

are you kidding me? Abram Elam looked like a "game-changer" when he was sent on the blitz all season.

The pieces are there....they just weren't utilized correctly by Sutton.

I'm not talking about the blitzing ability of our 2ndary, I'm talking about their coverage abilities. Besides for Revis I don't feel comfortable with anyone else on an island. Rhodes is solid but he's not the greatest cover Safety unlesss he's playing 20-30 yards off the line of scrimmage or has underneath help.

Besides, we've had two successful HCs in our history, Weeb and Tuna. Both had already won championships before they came to the Jets. We need an established guy.

"I'm not so sure Spags would be as quick to blitz with our D Line and Secondary."

What I was saying with that statement was, how confident would you be to blitz often taking into account the skill level of our DL and Secondary.

Exactly what I've been preaching for a month or more. Too bad none will come here. The Owner is in love with the GM so forget it guys. At best, we'll wind up with Martyball.

the skill level of our DL and secondary? There's enough talent on the Jets defense that Spags could work his magic. Rhodes & Revis aren't slouches...Lowery showed promise as a rookie....you saw what Elam could do when he's sent on the blitz.

As far as the DL goes...Jenkins is an avalanche waiting to happen, when he's at full strength...Ellis is talented. I also believe Spags could turn Gholston into an animal...if he can't do that, then Gholston is a bust...bottom line.

The defense has potential, dude...i wouldn't be so quick to write them off......they showed some cracks in the armor this year, but that's more defensive playcalling than talent level, IMO.

I agree with you there is talent on our defense, there are many players I like. I do think we need at least 1 player in the 2ndary and a speedy linebacker.
