You're thinking like they did in Washington with Zorn helping Campbell along? Couldn't be too bad of a situation.
Mularkey sucked as a HC last time, he'll suck as a HC again. Why not just pick up Dick Jauron after he gets canned? Bad choices. First, I think a lot of people underestimate the talent on this team. We have some very good players who are able to rush the passer... how can you blame them when they are playing a 1-2-8 most of the season? Second, what we need is someone who has balls and can play aggressive football. I don't understand why anyone would think Spagnuolo would not be flexible with this team other than the fact that Mangini wasn't? Mangini and Spagnuolo are not the same people, and football coaches aren't developed in a vacuum. If we can't get Cowher, Spagnuolo is the 2nd best choice in my opinion.
I think Spags would be a solid choice don't get me wrong. I'd just be a bit concerned what's going to happen with our QB situation the next few years.
What does Spagnuolo have to do with the QB? We have to address the QB position no matter who comes in here. I'm hoping someone comes in with enough of an open mind to give Ratliff a shot, but that's just me, and that's another argument in and of itself.
That makes Mooch your man. He can deal with Favre for a year, and groom Ratliffe, and never have to change the offense when Favre is gone.
Is Spagnolo gonna call the Defense???? I doubt it. Maybe he will suck as a coach. I do not know that, but just because he is a good coordinator does not mean that automatically the Defense would become stout. He could hire a bad DC.
Just throwing this out there, but if Spagnuolo is such a good prospect because he's such a great DC, why is no one talking about Rex Ryan??? This guy has been running one of the best Defenses in the NFL for years (granted he has Ray Lewis, one of the best Linebackers of the past 10years hands down)...
I like the idea of Spags, but there's always going to be some due diligence necessary. For example: What do players and the league truly feel about him? How is he managing a game plan? How is he at making adjustments? Is he a roll up his shirt sleeves guy or a delegator? Is he a student of film or a real X's and O's guy, and if yes, is he too technical for players to absorb?
spags is our guy. u give him the reigns. he will get this defense going and will handle all play calling. he will still get his feet wet in the rest of the operations, but what you have to do if you hire spags and make him your head coach is hire an offensive guy as assistant head coach and i am not talkin bill callahan. u go after joe philbin, offensive coordinator of the packers for this slot. u get brett back and you see what our wr's are made of. this guy has done wonders with guys like driver and jennings who are by no means gifted. yeah u pay out the ass for the both of them. but u have 2 of the best doing what they do best. with westhoff at special teams, you got all phases of the game covered.
I was probably the biggest Pete Carroll fan when he was here as our DC. I loved our D, his attitude everything but we all saw what happened next.
