I heard Schefter on WEEI this morning saying be "believes" either Shotty Jr. or Spags are going to be coaching the Gang Rust next year. Personally, I'm not sold on either of them. Schotty Jr. just doesn't have the nuggets to earn the respect or fear of his team. Add that to the fact that his offensive schemes are little more than chalkboard fodder, and we will be in search mode again in 3-4 years or less. Spags? Don't know enough about him to say either way, but he has no HC experience, and we just went this route and it didn't work out too well. Big deal he had the Giants D running on all cylinders, does that mean he'll be more successful than the last two guys that were here? It's pretty obvious that they are going to F this up, again.
I'd rather have Spags than Schotty. None of the Jet's QB's have performed at top level for Schotty. Even in 2006 Chad was having his worst year while the Jets bounced back.
This is why the Mangini firing was SO STUPID! They clearly did not have Cowher locked up, and anyone they hire is going to be as unknown as Mangini. They should have given him one more year, had him fire Sutton and see if he learned from his mistakes, if not, fire him next year and go after cowher. This organization is a mess, plain and simple. Whats done is done, I will be fine with Spags or Ryan, but Schott jr will make me sick.
I've read reports that both the Jets and Broncos were not impressed with Spags' interview. If those are true, I wonder why Schefter thinks Spags would be considered a leading candidate?? I don't want either of these guys so I hope he's wrong.
I don't think I'm going to be satisfied by anything they do at this point. I'm just so disgusted with this team, that I'm not even sure I want to waste another Sunday on this clusterfuck.
Schefter's beliefs are based on what? what he heard from someone or just his gut? How can he come to this conclusion w/o all the candidates being interviewed?
The important thing is that we find someone who can effectively stand next to Mike Tannenmillen (Millenbaum?) and leave no one with the wrong impression about who is the boss.
No one has been able to explain why Schotty Jr is so high up on their list to coach the Jets. We haven't even interviewed Ryan yet, so I'm taking this report with a grain of salt.
Could not agree more, How the hell is he even considered for the HC job, the guy was terrible as an OC, terrible. If he is hired as HC I will really get sick.
Maybe it's the pedigree? Maybe he's a yes man? Maybe woody likes his eyes. I can't find a single reason to want this guy as the HC. It's just another instance where Woody doesn't give a shit about his toy enough to learn how it works.
How can anybody say anything until all of the first round interviews are completed. Sounds like this is just another beat reporter trying to sound important. edit...and now I see that a few others have asked the same question.
Yeah Adam Schefter is just another beat reporter. Actually the guy has more "ins" than most people on the air. It's not written in gold but trust me, Schefter knows more than most.
I keep hearing that and then I see columns like this. Now maybe if he said "at this point in the process" those are the two leaders that would be one thing but that isn't what you posted.

Not a thing, I simply commented on what he said and it appears to be premature of him to say it unless the fix is in or the interviews are over.
Not written in stone, but I will say, Shotty's name keeps coming up for a reason, and they are waiting on something.....so. Waiting on Spags to finish up and if nothing good comes from it, they have their little Marty Jr already in-house probably for the league minimum.
