You're going off on a wild tangent and extending this to more than what was posted. What JJ posted way up there ^ is that Adam Schefter said : He even emphasized the part about him just "believing" it likely. He wasn't reporting it as fact, and he wasn't suggesting anything was locked.
Schefter has been very credible in the past. In a post on another thread I thought that Spag was leading the choices with Schott Jr. 2nd. I've seen mixed reports saying Spag wasn't a great interview, but other reports say they want to bring him back for a 2nd. I'm not 100% sold on Spag because he's only coordinated for 2 years and the difference in defensive scheme. My thoughts on Schott are...#1 he's currently available (doesn't work for a team in the playoffs); #2 said enough right things to Tanny during the interview that made Tanny believe how much Schott is the anti-Mangini
I'd consider no longer following football if Scottendoucher is our next coach. Seriously, I'm that fed up with the management of this franchise. It's painful to hear these rumors.... they have to atleast wait for Rex Ryan to be available.
I believe Mangini was about to enter the last year of his contract. They probably couldn't have had him coach as a lame duck next year, so the options were renew his contract or fire him. I'm guessing a one-year trial wasn't an option.
I dont understand how it could be either of those two when guys like Ryan and Grimm have not even interviewed yet.
I don't know why not. Axe the coordinators and that's your last shot at winning. It's not like Mangini would have left on his own.
The only reason I'd be open to giving Schotty a chance is because we don't know how much of his gameplans were curtailed and restricted by Mangini's conservative ways. I mean, I find it hard to believe the Offense is predictable and the Defense is super-conservative against Mangini's will. And maybe even Schotty has the ability to learn from his mistakes and, thus, more flexible. For the record, I'm not advocating his hiring, but should he be hired, at least there's something to be hopeful about.
My original post said how can anybody have an opinion until all of the candidates have been interviewed. I stand by that. If he wants to get into fortune telling instead of sports reporting, let him.
Schefter also believed that Favre 'might' end up being a Jet wks before the Jets even got in the permission to talk to GB. He has a network of people and gets one of the most accurate news in the NFL. He even said Cowher will not be a Jets HC even when reports suggested Cowher was willing to talk.
Rex Ryan hasn't interviewed yet, and I believe he has an interview set up for next week regardless of if Baltimore advances or not.
How can they even consider Shottenheimer Jr ? His offense play calling is shit. Now he gets upgraded to coach ? Such a sad fucking owner.
We should hire Brian Billick. He is the only coach available that makes sense for this job. He will be able to stick with the 3-4 personnel.
Have you not heard about Rex Ryan yet? Brian Billick is an offensive coach...who knows if he'll stay with the 3-4.
This is Bs....they said they will leave no rock unturned ...if thats the truth then you have to wait for Rex to interview and any other candidates, once out of the PO's!
I'd agree with that but I'm not sure how much override Mangini had with Schotty's calls. If it was Mangini calling for those "clever" plays that "the defense will never expect" instead of solid playcalling based on our strengths and their weaknesses, it could be part of the reason why Mangini's gone and Shottenheimer is still here. There could be more going on behind the scenes than we know. It's not inconceivable to me that after the Seattle game, for example, Tannenbaum may have gotten Schotty aside and said, "WTF did you have in mind passing the ball three times when all we needed was Jones or Richardson for 5 yards and a first down?", to which Shotty replied, "Those weren't my calls... that's what Eric wanted." Shit like that plus the 4th and one FG call on their 2-YL by Mangini may have been the last straw. There were reports that Woody Johnson left that game looking "extremely upset"... red-faced even, and obviously very pissed as per one reporter. I don't know... just sayin'.
