I haven't mentioned this because I don't really feel like getting beat up for not having a "source" or "link" to point to for it, and it basically goes against my usual argument of not listening to hearsay, but I have it from a fairly credible source that Schottenheimer would argue with Mangini on the phone while trying to eat dinner in restaurants after games.

Now I don't know if it was Mangini berating him, or Schottenheimer pissed off that Mangini was overriding him, but given the way things have gone down, I'm willing to believe that Schottenheimer isn't necessarily to blame.

I can't say who the source is, so don't bother asking me. If anyone wants to disbelieve it, go right ahead. I can say that I trust the source I received the information from, but he didn't have it first-hand, so take it for what it's worth. He was confident in relaying the story to me though.

The fact is, over the next 3 years or so we're going to find out who was responsible for the Jets collapse. Mangini will have new coordinators, and our coordinators will have a new boss.

Let's focus on what's really important: Who was eating?

You perfectly summed up my feelings, especially regarding Mangini with a new DC and learning from mistakes. He is a bright young coach with potential and might have learned and grown here (obviously others feel this way too - look how quickly he was snapped up).

The abrupt firing led me to believe there was a backroom deal in place. Nope, this organization is just inept.

The past month has turned me to the darkside...totally!

I'd say the more important question would be "What were they eating?"

Mangini was eating a double cheeseburger and Brian was eating a chicken salad...

I agree it is painful to hear these rumors, however that's all they are rumors and where do we go off thinking that Woody does not care, he spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the team, who in their right mind will not care of this kind of investment?

He has already stated his philosophy, Personnel and Coaching will not be taken care of by the same individual, now it's just a matter of finding a HC, let's wait and see, in the mean time let's enjoy some playoff football this weekend.

I don't think the interview says so much about the job. Spangnuolo has alot on his plate right now preparing his defense for Westbrook & The Eagles. Some people just don't interview well, it has nothing to do with what kind of coach he will be. His defensive record speaks for itself, and I am sure that many NFL personnel and players believe him to be a guy with a high head coaching potential. If we don't pull the trigger, someone like Denver will.

That's what I was trying to get at with my post. Was Schotty's playcalling hamstrung my Mangini? One might think so because the Defense was so conservative and we never saw Mangini do anything about it.

I mean, you can't excuse the excessive 3rd-and-1 Shotguns or even the insufficient use of the run game, but the lack of downfield attempts - especially with Keller - may possibly be a result of Mangini wanting to play conservative ball.

I have come to realize that the quieter things get and the more time that goes by the less chance we have to worry that Schottenheimer will ever be the coach. They are waiting on something. Whether that something is Ryan, Spagnuolo or something else I don't know. I also think they leak crap like this report to judge what the fan reaction will be.

I agree, I think the slowness of the search indicates who they really want is working for a team still in the playoffs. If they really wanted Billick news in that direction would have come out by now, there are other vacancies, if Brian was there man they would wrap him up early. I figure they want either Spags or Rex.

Or it could be that the most qualified Rooney Rule candidates are still in the playoffs, and since they still have yet to interview them (whether they want to or not) there isn't much they can do.

I guess they could bring Bryan Cox in to sit with Tanny over lunch, but that would be pretty transparent.

I think the Jets will hire a coach whos team is still in the playoffs. It seems to be logical because if it was gonna be Schotty, they would have announced it already. He wouldn't be a terrible choice, but he would have to find a great DC to balance himself out.

We may know who the coach is by Monday then, 'cause we're interviewing Colts' DC Ron Meeks today.

I also thought he had already been interviewed, but because I wasn't sure, I went and LOOKED IT UP instead of just talking out my ass. Novel concept, I know.
