This is a ridiculous rumor. GB clearly stated in the original trade that if we were to deal Favre to Minn at any point we'd cough up THREE 1st round picks. We would never consider this.
Agreed...i feel your pain. I mentioned this in another thread....but...the only reason i can see Tanny entertaining the notion of bringing Favre back this season...is because of the QB talent pool is a little more promising in next year's draft. Aside from Stafford/Sanchez...there's really nothing to shake a stick at THIS year, and free agency is worse. I don't want guys like Leftwich, D.Anderson, or David Carr anywhere near Florham Park, NJ. Favre could be our best option to win next season.....but only if he participates in the offseason and gets a full TC under his belt to learn the playbook. If he's gonna be a schmuck and shun the OTA's....or worse....do that, and THEN retire in July.....we're fucked. I'm not sold on Clemens or Ratty yet......I could be wrong....but i would like to see Clemens prove that he's not shellshocked from 2007 and that he's capable of making better reads and decisions before i start believing in him again. Clemens looked like SHIT in TC last year....
I just don't want the guy back under any circumstances. We wouldn't be going through this mess if we never bothered with him in the first place. Now we got GB situation in NY. This is not good. We didn't make the playoffs with the guy and there is no guarantee that we will next year. He didn't make the Jets any better than what we were before. A mediocre team.
that's my consipiracy theory in regards to the possibility of why Tanny is granting Favre MONTHS to make a decision....yes. It's a huge risk, IMO. all i know is....MB's head hurts from trying to rationalize the Jets FO's strategies.
But when you're in the #1 Market and you are not the Mara's you forget that season in and season out. Sad.
If the three first rounders are no longer in play, trading Burt to Minnesota would be the single best move of the offseason...genius if we get a first rounder for him.
Makes more sense to take a chance on Clemens next year. If Favre comes back then we waste another year and Clemens becomes a FA. If he starts at least we can find out what we have in him and can make a better informed decision in the 2010 draft.
For the record, i don't want him back either. I'm just trying to theorize why in the hell Tanny is giving Favre this much leeway in making a decision.
100% correct, it makes no sense to bring Favre back for another year. Another 7-9 - 9-7 season does nothing for us next season. We need to find out next season what we have in Clemens or Ratliff or get incredibly lucky in this draft with one of the top two falling to us. Worst case scenario is Clemens is terrible, we suck next year and are in position for one of the stud QBs in next years draft while filling in more pieces for Rex's D. The worst case scenario doesn't sound as bad as another 9-7 season with Favre and another season of no clue about the future of the QB position.
I'm wondering the same thing. Just makes me feel even more like an ant in this world. Decisions are being made in the interest of whom
actually, it's 4 1st round picks...anyway, we can't trade him to ANY NFC North team or it will cost the same. All we can do is CUT him and then he can sign with who he wants and it won't cost us a thing.
It won't cost us $13 mil to waste it on Clemens. Not playing him at all would be an even bigger waste.
We might win a few games if we don't play him at all. That's not a waste. If you really believe in your heart of hearts that Clemens is the long term answer at QB for this team then you are crazy. If you don't then you can see why playing him for a year is a waste of time.
