Actually, the way Favre played last season, the Pack should give the Jets three first rounders if they trade him to a division contender. That's two guaranteed wins for the Pack!

The point is I know in my heart of hearts that Favre definitely is NOT the long term answer at QB and after last year's performance I know in my heart of hearts that he is not even the best short term answer. Therefore, it is only logical that the Jets determine whether the long term answer is on the roster. If that means that the Jets go 7-9, or worse yet 6-10 (which I highly doubt with the current OL and defense), that is better than missing the playoffs with Favre again. Winning a few more games in 2009 does nothing for the long-term chances of this team contending for a championship. In fact, it sets the franchise back another year.

How about this...Trade Favre to somebody for something, and they can deal him...:) think outside the box.

It doesn't matter at all if he is the long term answer. What matters is if Tannenbaum and Johnson thinks he can win more games then the other 3 QBs currently on the staff. That is the ONLY thing that matters.

Now, if they sign, draft or trade for another QB then all bets are off. The deal with Favre may be that if the Jets get another QB then they will cut him which lets him sign with anybody he wants. That may be why they are saying they are willing to give him more time.

No, this thread. Seems there are several new ones today dealing with Favre and all have a different rumor.

    Don,
You are just not seeing this kid for what he is, this kid has a ton of talent and will be much better then you want to believe. I will enjoy next year if they actually give him a fair chance to succeed ,to remind you every now and then...

    agreed.

I think Clemens still needs some seasoning when he goes through his progressions and makes his reads....because he showed us in TC last season that he's still making poor decisions.

But he also played decent in lieu of having that shitty oline in front of him in 2007

He deserves another look for sure.

That kind of short-sighted thinking is what puts franchises in holes they don't get out of for years. The Jets are not a win-now everything for one year team. The Jets need to think years ahead, NOT just whether Favre means a couple of more wins next year. Who cares if Favre wins 10 games next year and the Jets lose in the first round of the playoffs and in 2010 the Jets are looking for a QB again. I want the Jets to look for and find a QB now and not waste another year on an old, over-the-hill, injured, egotistical, indecisive QB. No real Jet fan gets excited about a 9 or 10 win season when it does nothing for the prospects of playing in the Super Bowl. We have waited 40 years. I can wait another year for the QB search, but I don't want to waste a year playing a player I know will not lead us to the Super Bowl when the Jets could be using the year to find the Qb who will lead the team for the next 10 years.

I thought that GB put a Poison Pill clause in the original trade that prohibited the Jets from trading Farve to any team in the NFC North. I think it would be so costly to the Jets that it wouldn't even be considered even to placate King Brett.

Simple rule in trade: get at least as much value as you are giving up.

So... if Vikes want Favre? They can have him - with 4 1st round picks in the coming years. 3 of them will go to the Packers, and Jets end up with 1 extra 1st round pick. Deal?
