Jets management lies so there's no point in listening to anything they say. They've said so themselves.
It took awhile, but they finally got to talking the Jets. Brett Favre: "I'm not big on setting deadlines. The whole world can be different a day after your deadline." Ray Lewis: "No news on that. But we're excited to have Rex Ryan with us." "We just finished our coaching staff and now we're turning our attention to the players." Does it burn you that the Giants have done so well? "I have a lot of respect for them but I feel great about our team and our owner.. going to new stadium next year and having Rex Ryan." Draft: "We were at the 6th spot last year but there was a lot going on ahead of us."
interesting way Tanny became GM... I could take the same path he did and make it. I think he is a great model to follow.
I can tell with the draft talk at the end that Ryan and McFadden were their top 2 on the draft board. Shame Ryan went #3. He's the one I wanted the most too.
That computer-generated transcript is hilarious: "That the people know who you want when you walk around New York City your space and I know enough but no I Pompeo. Strike keep a low profile published gospel I do get stuff from time stamina and I appreciate effort -- torrent of -- people suggestions and -- that comes with the territory and they are trying to listen too early to." "Strike keep a low profile" was "I try to keep a low profile." Unbelievable what an inaccurate waste it can be.
How did this guy ever get this job? A high school dropout could speak better than this guy does. And he could do it without looking so nervous too.
 " There's no question about it and I don't Thomas slow stick successes actually no surprise to me and -- spent. We stand up to date with Matt and his successes is really knows president agreed orientation start with mr. Blake. And I don't know coach mature well -- terms Thomas and now I think they'll have success for your company yet I think coach. Your quarterback like that you know that that's just tremendous foundation and northeast -- please try your football or right outside of Philly in high school player of our recipient PC and I think keys. I think it'll be really good for a long long."
Hello. It's a computer generated transcript, this isn't what he actually said, it's garbled. I got a kick out of the way Mike & Mike mocked "the Staten Island Jet fan" at one point ... "Why don't they just sign Peyton Manning?" Reminds me of a couple posts I saw on the FY09 QB poll thread.
Something doesn't jive for me with this interview. With regard to Favre, I heard Tannenbaum distinctly say that he "doesn't believe in deadlines," that "if you set a deadline, the whole world can change the day after." OK, fine. That means to me that you're going to give Favre an unlimited amount of time to make up his mind. But here's an article from today's Star-Ledger, pointing out the tremendous Salary-Cap advantage we would have going into Free Agency (+$13 Million) by not bringing Favre back. It would seem to me that this decision to bring him back or not bring him back is of paramount importance going into F/A. More than that, it is quite a timely thing, becuase a lot hinges on whether he comes back. You've got to know whether you have $4 Million to spend or $17 Million to spend. It just doesn't add up to me why Tannenbaum would make that statement (and truly mean it): http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/02/jets_cut_barrett_now_under_cap.html Jets Cut Barrett, Now Under Cap by Dave Hutchinson Wednesday February 11, 2009, 6:29 AM The Jets yesterday announced the release of veteran cornerback David Barrett, a move that'll save the team $5.1 million on the salary cap. The release of Barrett leaves the Jets roughly $4 million under the projected 2009 salary cap of $124 million, according to NFLPA cap figures. If quarterback Brett Favre retires or is released, the club will save another $13 million on the cap. That would leave the Jets with at least $17 million heading into the start of free agency on Feb. 27. The club is expected to make other moves to free up more cap space before free agency begins. Barrett, a nine-year veteran, played the past five seasons with the Jets after signing with the team as an unrestricted free agent following four seasons in Arizona. He started 37 of 69 games and had 247 tackles and 12 interceptions as a Jet. Last season, he played in 11 games in a reserve role and was inactive for five games.
^ Tanny won't reveal his hand to the media....he's the master of deception. It's best to just sit back and wait.
That's what I was thinking. He's publicly saying a deadline doesn't matter for Favre's benefit so as not to push him. But privately, he's saying to himself that ther is no way in hell he's going into F/A on the 27th without a definite answer and/or a decision. And Favre would have to be smart enough to know that too. The Jets are going to want to be as active in F/A this year as possible. The remaining PSL sales depend on it. If they don't have an answer from Favre by Feb 27 and pass on some good players, and then if Favre tells us in May that he's not coming back, we've allowed him to screw us. My guess is, Tannenbaum's not going to let that happen. Look for something to develope before Feb 27 regarding Favre, one way or the other.
