This thread is hilariously contentious. If Sanchez is there at 17, which likely does depend on Warner, as IATA pointed out, I wouldn't be devastated if we took him. However, in that scenario, I'd have to imagine our pick would be awfully appealing in a trade. I'd prefer to try to get solid value and pick up a WR or DE. Trading up for him would be a disaster.
This is not true at all. Gholston was a question mark. He had no heart in college, and his stats were mostly padded do to one amazing game. Sanchez is a good QB. And there aren't that many that would disagree. Will he take a year to adjust to the NFL? Probably. Most drafted QBs do. But that's no reason for us not to draft him. We need a QB, not just for this year but for 2010 and 2011 as well. I think Sanchez is that QB. Granted, I'm big on Ratliff and I'll be thrilled if he works out. But I want the Jets to bring in Sanchez for the near future.
F--- it, why not pass on Sanchez and just take Rhett Bomar a couple rounds later? Talented kid that made a dumb mistake. No one says he has to be the starter, but he has potential and can battle for the job.
You took my words out of context. 1. We don't know if we have a QB. 2. There are few free agency options at QB. 3. Teams don't like to let good young QBs go to other teams. 4. Sanchez is good and IMO is a franchise QB. 5. The Jets cannot just sit back and watch, when they have a pressing need at QB, even if it means they are drafting him for next season. 6. The Jets will have the opportunity to get Sanchez, maybe even Stafford. That's why I think they'll pull the trigger on this one. I know I'm not crazy, because I know that a good QB is too important to let pass by. The Jets will have Sanchez on draft day, and they will not be trading him.
If the Lions choose Sanchez over Stafford. I don't think that would happen, but stranger things have happened in the past. Or maybe the Lions don't even go for a QB. It's possible.
I Dont agree with that Clemens bullshit. He started half of 2007 which was his first time as a starter and he had to do it halfway through the season and had a terrible o-line infront of him (Clements - Adrian Jones) and the running game struggled terribly. This time around where a 3x better O-Line with Faneca and Woody and a much imporved Mangold and D'Brick, Clemens will be working with a good o-line for the first time ever with us. An T.J. has found his stride mainly with the emergence of the line. Give him a shot with a solid line and just a much better overall team and see how he does. I dont think alot of people would of did well with that 2007 team.
I'm sorry, why don't we swap the Jets with Syracuse instead. Shout out to you, my Syracuse fan I wish I had a college to root for. We have St. John's in basketball -- albeit a shell of its former self. When will New York City get an NCAA football team? The Westside Jets would have brought one, damnit!
Maybe you're are right, but I don't think so. I think Clemens time in the NFL is all but over this pre-season, especially if the Jets do what I'm saying they will and get Sanchez. The Jets front office is too high on Ratliff, and what would be the reason to keep Clemens. Personally, I'd rather see Brad Smith get a chance than the lowly Kellen Clemens.
I don't think the Jets should trade up for anybody in the first round....unless it's for BJ Raji.....period. I'm impartial to Sanchez.....if he falls to us, great!.....if we trade up for him...I'll throw up.
It doesn't look like they're going after a free agent QB, so if the Jets do what you guys are saying and both Clemens and Ratliff are busts then essentially we can throw away the entire season. No offense, but I don't think the Jets are that stupid.
We will have to disagree on that point. I think Sanchez is worth #17. However, I also like Clemens and am optimistic about his chances with a full TC as the starter, an offense tailored more to him, and a good line. A new solid receiver to throw to wouldn't hurt either. I would prefer that route, and even if Sanfhez is our pick, I think Kellen starts this year.
Then, at the beginning of draft day, I suggest you hold a bucket in front of you, because if the 49ers don't get Warner, look for the Jets to be picking 8th or 9th.
