No need to trade up this year. There are plenty of top WR options available in this draft to make a solid pick at 17.
Here is my point of view... Draft around the QB, get weapons. See what our current crew of QBs can do. If we suck, at least we have a better class coming out next season to draft a QB in. Why take a huge risk with Sanchez when we can wait till next year for a better class?
He looked 100x better out there than Chad "Good-decision-maker" Pennington. More times than not, Clemens put his team in a position to win and when you look at the names of all the scrubs on our roster in '07 that says a lot.
No, because it would take even more draft picks and money to get Stafford than Sanchez. Why break the bank for an unknown commodity? I wasn't even that impressed with Stafford's 3 years as a starter at UGA. Yes he has the tools but I never saw him put it all together consistently. Take a big strong WR with our first pick. We'll be a ball control offense with a killer defense and some nice big weapons for Clemens/Ratliff to throw to.
Why take a big strong WR with the first pick, when there will probably be a big strong WR with the second pick?
Hey I'm all for it...My point really is take some big, physical, dynamic offensive playmakers early in this draft. Yes, I would be very happy with Moreno at #1 and Britt at #2 if both available when we pick.
There are 3 ways to go about the QB situation 1) Start the Year with the cards in hand and see what we have in Clemens and Ratliff. If one steps up we have our QB and problem solved. If not we give up on them and make finding our QB the main objective of next off-season. 2) Decide that the time to win is right now and bring in a veteran QB now. (Garcia, Leftwich, or however unlikely Cutler in a dream scenario) 3) Decide that Clemens and Ratliff are not the future and draft a QB early in the draft (Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman, White, Bomar, Davis) - All the options seem questionable, and there is not a clear cut answer. Based on what has been said and done i would assume that were going to stick with what we got and see what Clemens and Ratliff can do, but no real way to know until the season starts.
WOW. More of these nonsensical quarterback threads. We have three quarterbacks, two of which we recently drafted for. Let them fight it out. We have other holes to fill in the draft, particularly offensive ones. In conclusion, our quaterback should be clemens, ratliff, or ainge. End of story.
Why are so many people anti-Clemens. His record as a starter was 3-5 and he came in when we were 1-7. You guys have seen more of him in action than me (I make do with radio commentaries so my judgment on players is limited) but was he really THAT bad in his little stint in 2007 that we have to automatically assume he's not up to the job??
