I haven't heard one good move made be Mangini since he's been in Cleveland. Favre will bring a huge mess to the Browns in terms of media coverage they don't need.

Hmmm, "kind of a joke"? That was a serious request perhaps framed as a joke. Might be more on this story soon.

has shaun rogers officially told mangini to fuck himself yet? thats what he needs to do. he should know how hard it is to get a quality nose tackle in this game and he goes and pisses his off. not a bright move...

Maybe Mangini is a bit smarter than we're giving him credit for here. Bringing Favre into a football environment could easily pique his interest in playing again thus causing a big headache for the Jets ...

Valid point, but I think the Browns are in perfect striking distance of BJ Raji. How often is there a dominant, motivated nose tackle at the top of the draft?

Or since he first came to the Jets to be perfectly fair.

He has already filed his retirement papers. He did it the day he told the Jets he's done. The Jets are off the hook.

If he "unretires" the Jets are on the hook for his contract. Remember the Packers situation last year?

Favre didn't file retirement papers last offseason.

    I didn't know that.

What would happen then if he decided to unretire again?

I honestly have no idea. I'm not aware of it having happened yet. But judging from the situation with Barry Sanders and the Lions, if the situations are similar, I would think that the Jets would retain rights to Favre if not being on the hook for his contract.

I'm not sure I'm following, the "if not being on the hook" part is throwing me off. it sounds like you're saying there would essentially be no difference for the Jets than if he hadn't filed the paperwork?

How about he comes in to Jets camp to help our young guys continue progressing (as long as he doesnt teach em the gunslinging, cross field throwing Ha) I think his play at the end of the season showed our young guys how NOT to play so mayb now he would be better in a teaching role...apparently they "learned" so much from him last year. Doesnt he have a relationship with the QB coach now too?

Not sure, the Jets would certainly still be responsible for the contract if he hadn't filed papers. I'm not sure about how it would work after he filed his papers.

The reason I made the Barry Sanders comparison is that I believe the Lions retained his rights in the case that he wanted to come out of retirement, but I remember hearing that they would not be on the hook for the contract he was signed to when he filed. I am not educated enough on professional sports contracts to know the answer to that one.
