Pittsburg Steelers, New England Patriots, NYG's...etc etc....what do they all have in common?.....they build threw the draft and have there own idenitity...as much as i love cutler i would rather them stay at 17 and get sanchez or freeman..we already wasted a 3rd on favre and trading for cuter will cost more picks, and like the teams i named above hit the jackpot with there late picks....DYNASTYS ARNT BUILT THRU TRADE OR FREE AGENCY...

And what else do all of those teams have that we don't?

    A QUARTERBACK!

    ^ Truth...

A franchise QB gets a team to the next level. Then a defense that doesn't necessarily need to be the great defense in 20 years, but does need to stop opponents and get takeaways to give the ball back to the franchise QB. An opportunistic defense would be the right word. it does need to be a top 10 defense. A coaching staff that is motivating and creative. And a system that can plug and play anyone on the roster.

    That's a start.

This post makes me want to commit grammatical suicide.

But yes, we should build through the draft. Since we seem to be drafting well in recent years, I don't have too many worries. If we can get production out of Gholston, I think it'd be safe to say Tanny has been drafting well in the first couple rounds with the likes of Gholston (possibly), Keller (likely a mainstay on offense), Revis (a BAMF on D), Mangold and D'Brick (Two young studs at their positions), Harris (a beast when given the opportunity), Washington (a game-changer), Rhodes (a stud at safety), and Brad Smith (Special teams ace and mediocre wideout).

Agreed completely I always preach about hating big names coming to the Jets. Hated the Favre signing with a passion, shoulda stayed loyal to the team that first had faith in you.

the packers didn't have faith in Favre. Thompson wanted to go with Rodgers and have Favre as a backup.

those teams didn't give up picks for them minus the Giants. They drafted those kids. They didn't trade for them

the Giants drafted Rivers and traded for Eli, slightly different.

    T. Brady - Draft
    W. Welker - Trade
    N. Kaczur - Draft
    B. Yates - FA
    D. Koppen - Draft
    L. Mankins - Draft
    M. Light - Draft
    B. Watson - Draft
    R. Moss - Trade
    6/11 - drafted
    3/11 - FA

    T. Warren - Draft
    V. Wilfork - Draft
    R. Seymour - Draft
    E. Hobbs - Draft
    M. Vrabel - FA
    J. Mayo - Draft
    T. Bruschi - Draft
    A. Thomas - FA
    B. Merriweather - Draft
    J. Sanders - Draft

    8/11 - drafted
    3/11 - FA

    Jets
    Offensive Starters
    T. Richardson - FA
    T. Jones - Trade
    K. Clemens - Draft
    J. Cotchery - Draft
    D. Woody - FA
    B. Moore - Draft
    N. Mangold - Draft
    A. Faneca - FA
    D. Ferguson - Draft
    D. Keller - Draft
    B. Smith or C. Stuckey - Draft

    K. Jenkins - Trade
    K. Coleman - FA
    L. Sheppard - Trade
    C. Pace - FA

    B. Thomas or V. Gholston - Draft
    K. Rhodes - Draft
    B. Leonard - FA

    5/11 - drafted
    4/11 - FA
    2/11 - trade

    PATS Total:
    14/22 - drafted
    6/22 - FA
    2/22 - Trade

    JETS Total:
    12/22 - drafted
    7/22 - FA
    3/22 - Trade

That's not a huge difference, especially considering BB has outlasted a handful of Jets coaches now. Coaches usually like to bring in some of there own.

If I get bored I'll do the other 2 teams. I assume Pitt is the most homegrown team.

Eli Manning was picked 1st overall.

    Roethlisberger was picked 7th overall.

Tom Brady is the only team that hit the jackpot. But at least he is gay.

How do you even know Jets don't have one? Did all three prove out to be a bust? You don't even KNOW.

Look back at the vicious hit Mo Lewis delivered to Bledsoe. Do you HONESTLY think Pats brass KNEW they had a franchise QB on the roster by then?

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Ok. Let's be fair. Mangini had his failures with the Jets - game management, raising youngsters, or whatnot. Even with all the mistakes, you cannot blame Mangini for his draft. It either panned out greatly (Harris/Revis/D'Brick/Mangold/Lowery etc etc) or has not had the chance to either test, or blossom AS OF YET. As it stands, Jets do have three promising QBs (I'd say two - I'm not high on Clemens) and it'd be more than just foolish to dismiss them [simply because they never had enough chance to prove themselves.] With that mentality of the coaching staff, Cotchery never panned out under Herm. If anything, you shouldn't be making the same mistake.

Defense wins it all, QB is just a nice thing to have. Top notch D gets you the ball back, gets you the field position, gets you the W.

Give one of these kids a chance at QB. Shit, Ray Lucas took a battered NYJ team almost into the playoffs, and that was with Indy in our division.

Build up this D, we have a strong running game already, pick up a solid receiver.

Cutler is not worth it, but that's just IMO.

This horse has long been dead and I'm tired of making this argument.

There is a plethora of threads containing the very discussion you're trying to have.
