For Kerry Rhodes, it's more like a case of d?ja boo. Rhodes isn't a fan of the Broncos' disgruntled quarterback, who wants out of Denver. According to the popular safety, Cutler has a big head to match that big right arm. If the Jets end up trading for Cutler - they already have placed an inquiring call to the Broncos - it could cause an uneasy tension in the locker room. "Me and Jay just don't get along too well right now," Rhodes said Thursday at the Florham Park, N.J., headquarters, where the Jets opened their doors to the media during a break in the offseason program. Rhodes' dislike for Cutler surfaced in last November's 34-17 loss to the Broncos. In the midst of a 357-yard, two-touchdown shredding of the Jets, Cutler turned off Rhodes and several of his teammates by chirping in their faces. One player described it as childish behavior. "I took some onus on that," said the mild-mannered Rhodes, who rarely, if ever, gets worked up by an opposing player. Asked if he's bothered by Cutler's cocky attitude, Rhodes replied, "You can be confident, but when you're too confident for your own self, that can be a little tough." Rhodes said he's "not going to fight him" if Cutler is traded to the Jets, but he also made it clear he wouldn't throw a welcoming party. Like many players, Rhodes would like to see the in-house candidates - Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge - get first dibs on the starting job. Nevertheless, the front office is intrigued by Cutler, 25, who already has one Pro Bowl on his resume. "He can make a lot of things happen on the field," Rhodes acknowledged, albeit reluctantly. "We saw him do it against us. I don't know if that means I want him, but he's a good player." Following coach Rex Ryan's lead, the Jets are saying all the right things about the three-way open competition, trying to ignore the specter of Cutler. It's similar to last training camp, when Clemens and Chad Pennington were hounded for two weeks with Brett Favre speculation. When the Favre trade became reality, the Jets pulled the plug on the Clemens-Pennington competition, handing Pennington a pink slip. "At times, it can be distracting, I'm not going to lie," Clemens said of the Cutler buzz. "It's not like, 'Oh, Jay could be here, that's great.' You try to ignore it and focus on things under your control . . . I try to dismiss it as best I can, but it's easier said than done." Publicly, Ryan has supported his three quarterbacks - a "huge boost," according to Clemens, who recognizes that .Ryan, as a new coach, could have no loyalty to holdovers. "I believe, if I'm under center, yes, we have playoff potential," Clemens said confidently. There wasn't a lot of Cutler love in the locker room. "Jay Cutler is a great talent . . . but I like my guys here," tackle Damien Woody said. "They deserve a chance to show what they can do. If you want to develop a franchise quarterback, you have to start somewhere." JETTING OUT OF JERSEY: In a surprising decision, the Jets, who moved into their $75 million facility only six months ago, aren't planning to hold training camp in Florham Park - at least not the early part of camp. They're looking for a site in upstate New York. Ryan, taking the old-school approach, wants to take the team to a relatively secluded place. ------------------------------ Interesting read, apparently cutler really rubbed our players the wrong way on route to kicking our asses last year. Also its not just the defensive guys who are not too keen on the idea, Damien woody is also qouted.... Sounds like a real big potential locker room problem if we brought him in. Which is fine by me, i like what we have and we need to let things play themselves out.
interesting read...thanks for posting. I've made it clear I've been on the "Bring Cutler to New York" bandwagon....but after reading this....I wouldn't want to sacrifice our locker room chemistry as a result of bringing Cutler in. That's the last thing Rex Ryan needs going into his first year.
Here's the comments that Rhodes made after the Denver game: It left them with a bad case of indigestion. Asked to comment on Cutler's performance, affable safety Kerry Rhodes snapped, "I don't like him. I don't want to talk about him." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...jets_fall_back_to_earth_with_sloppy_3417.html
yeah i wanted Cutler 2 but reading this it seems the vets dont mind developing a guy here.I didnt think Cutler was that cocky but it seems he is.
This is not about Cutler at all but I really hope that they hold the majority of training camp in FP since I was planning on going to most of them. I wanted Cutler before but like the poster above, I'm not sure about sacrificing the stability of the locker room for him. However, I get the feeling that it would work out if he got traded here.

Not sure if any of you caught that at the end of the article.
This is total speculation on my behalf....but maybe Cutler's attitude is the reason why McDaniels was eager to trade him. In this case, I would've figured the talent would outweigh the character issue.....but after reading Rhodes' take and seeing Cutler's prior verbal spats with Rivers...maybe Cutler isn't worth the headache. I'm defenitly skeptical of Cutler now. He defenitly has the talent and physical tools of an elite QB....but his attitude sounds terrible.
Yeah, I did. Maybe, Lake Placid or Saranac Lake or somewhere in northern NH or VT. They could beat the heat a bit up there, but frankly I don't think that is the purpose. I think the heat is good as a form of conditioning. The air quality in July would be better further north; other than that, I don't see the need.
Wait, let me get this straight. So, Rhodes got his feelings hurt cause Cutler had a few things to say on the field as they kicked our asses up and down our house? And people thought Cutler was acting like a baby.
There's a difference between talking smack on the field and just acting like a punk. It could have been either one.
He's entitled to not like the guy, but he should get over it when it comes to putting the team first and putting the best players on the field. Actually, this has given me a great idea. How about Rhodes and a couple of picks to Denver for Cutler. This way, no one is unhappy. I think I'm gonna start a thread on this...
The guy throws teamates under the bus. Cries when they fire his coach. Cries when they consider trading him to better the team. And on top of everything else - he's a sore winner. So far, his résumé sounds like one giant meal for Jets fans and the NY press. Can the writing on the wall be any more clear?
Actually, Carlton (sp) suggested something like that this morning on the Boomer and Carlton show. He said Rhodes and Clemens for Cutler. Not that I think either you or him are serious, but it is coincidental.
It sounds like Rhodes to Denver might make sense if we make a move for Cutler. It cures the locker room problem right out of the shoot.
Like most people on this board I've played various sports in all kinds of leagues over my lifetime, and there's been plenty of guys that I crossed paths with on opposite teams that I didn't like. For whatever reason later down the line we ended up on the same team and all I cared about was winning. People talk smack at every level of sports, but when they have the same jersey on as me I couldn't care less what I used to think of them. Rhodes needs to look at the big picture and who gives him the better chance of playing in a Super Bowl...
