I know and I think if it was a nice field we probably win but we really can't complain b/c they beat us 3 times that year.

We did outplay them in the December game at the Orange Bowl on the Saturday afternoon, lost the game by one because stupid Leahy missed an extra point and a FG.

A Sunday night game, Nugent missed a long FG at the end that would have won it. The irony is a lot of Jet fans were happy on the way out because they thought it set us up better to get Reggie Bush, they were even chanting his name. One more reason you never root for your team to lose--the Saints ended up with Bush anyway and we got Leon in the 4th round who is just as good if not better.

We had one intangible, we were playing our best football of the year in the playoffs...

That call with Cotch in the Denver game last year really pissed me off.

Wait a second. Wasn't the Testaverde non-TD a GREAT ref call in NYJ history? We have so few, don't guilt us into feeling really, really, REALLY bad about that.

Read post #26 in this thread.

There is nothing to feel guilty about.

1996 vs New England... had them stopped on 4th and 1 and the ref give them a phantom 2 1/2 and the first down... Even Parcells who was in his last year with the Pats said it was an awful spot....

Speaking of NE. In 1994 a week after losing the fake spike game we were still in cotnrol for a playoff spot and played a close game in Foxboro. We were up 13-10 in the 3rd and Parcells did one of his fake FG punts and they pinned us down at our 1 yard line. The problem was the Pats players foot clearly stepped on the GL as they saved the ball so it should have been a touchback. Moments later Boomer threw an INT for a TD and the game and season were basically over.

Like you, the Baker force out is the more memorable in my mind. That kept me angry for days!

And Kudos for the Famiyl Guy reference at the end!

no doubt in my mind that's the worst call in jets history--it WAS a fumble and even analyst Merlin Olsen said during the game that Miami's "MVP" of the game should have been "the officials." Ranks right up therewith Don Denkinger "gift" to Kansas City in game 6 of the 1985 world series --no wonder the Royal fans cheered so loudly when Denkinger was introduced at the start of game 7.

I never quite understood why Leahy is so beloved by the Jet faithful. I, for one, never liked him other than the Irish name. He missed chippies all the time. Off the top of my head, there was the game you mentioned, a FG he missed in overtime against Cleveland in the '86 playoffs, and the FG he missed against Chicago in OT after the infamous Blair Thomas fumble in regulation. I mean, it's a joke how many times this guy missed a big kick. And everybody gives Doug Brien shit because his asshole jack-off coach played for a 42-yarder on a cold, windy, wet day when the offense was running off 7-8 yards a clip each play after the two-minute warning that game. It's a joke how Edwards still had a job after that game. Had Chad kneel-down twice, too, before that kick. Honestly, could any long-time Jet fan be surprised we lost that game??

Leahy also missed a big one in the 1978 New England game at Shea. At the time we had a chance at the playoffs, it was November, didn't totally eliminate us but it sure helped. Wasn't a long one or that bad a day, either, and it was the closed end of Shea.

Who drove Kellen Clemens into the ground and didn't draw a flag? It all blends together. I might recall it in two minutes or at three in the morning, who is to say.

All this about ref calls, and nobody brings up Barton roughing the passer in San Diego? I'm not calling bullshit, and in the end it didn't make a difference. But at the time, I thought I was going to puke and die.

I think was Richard Seymour. What a terrible way to start the game.. Clemens takes the snap and half a second later he's piledriven into the endzone, the Pats put up 6 and he's out for the game.

I was going to call Seymour. Thanks for giving me a full body rash. No flag on the Cheats. What else is new.
