Look we take Cutler, but not at a High price. If we don't get Him we go with Ratliff. Give the guy a shot, plus we're supposed to be a run 1st team this year. Nothing to lose!
The kind of deal I'd be ok with would be Harris, Rhodes and a conditional pick for Cutler. Maybe give the Broncos our 1st next year if we make the playoffs or their choice of swapping their 1st for ours if we didn't. That way we get to keep the 17 this year to add a WR to the QB and offensive line we already have, which gives Cutler the best chance to pick up here where he left off in Denver. The Broncos get two defensive players of nearly star caliber to begin fixing that horrible defense and they can snipe at Stafford or Sanchez with their 1st rounder this year. Next year if we make the playoffs they get a late 1st round pick to complete the deal with both parties obviously happy with it at that point, and if we don't they have an option to swap their pick for ours and move up in the first round to try to get closer to a QB in a thick QB class. I don't really see how that deal could be bad for us even though I'm not a Cutler fan.
How do you equate a 25-year-old quarterback with another quick fix? He's a long-term solution at a position that has been a question mark on the Jets for most of the past 20 years, ever since O'Brien hit the skids. The common denominator in the catalogue of Jets failures has been uncertainty at QB. The two brief rays of sunshine - 1998 and 2002 - came when a QB appeared out of nowhere and played lights-out football, only to then disappear through injuries. The Jets have tried drafting, they've tried free agents, they've tried luring legends out of retirement. Now a franchise-type quarterback who is only 25 is available. I don't know how much would be too much, but a 1st, a 2nd and Harris is not too much.
+1 Was going to say the same thing. Did anyone ever consider that Ryan is so intent on minimizing the QB position with the Jets because he just flat out can't depend on the players he's got? Not saying that getting a Quarterback of Cutler's caliber would change things the way that the team catered to FAvre, but he certainly brings options I'd love to have.
I tend to remove Manning and Johson because they both had good years in the regular season and/or made spectacular plays that help their team win the SB. Johnson's TD:INT ratio and QB rating in 2002 was the best in his career. His play put that team over the top, because that defense couldn't win it all when it was that same exact defense and tony dungy. Manning made the throw and Tyree the catch to set them up to take the lead. That Giants defense was losing that game until that happened. But the other 6 are perfect examples of teams winning without great QBs. But that's only 6 out of 43 SBs. That's a 14% chance of winning with that formula. franchise QBs win 86% of the time.. Personally, I'll take the higher odds. why did you name the losers? they don't help the argument.
that's a good trade, with my green glasses on I make the 2 a 3rd rounder, but I don't think denver would bite.
That's not an unreasonable expectation on their part. It's not a price I'd like to pay for Cutler but I can see them getting nibbles on that line. I'd say Tannenbaum is better than 50/50 to make the offer though. The Jets FO has been very undisciplined since 2001 in the way they approach value, particularly in the draft. They've also consolidated value as much as possible, preferring "sure" things to the risk-taking high draft picks that often produce the greatest return for the value.
2 first round picks is not unreasonable for a 25 year old franchise QB, I would make that trade in a heartbeat.
I would if we get in return Cutler and a conditional pick from 5 to 3 depending on our team results... that is if i'm managing the team. But since I'm just a Jets fan I say FUCK CUTLER and give our guys a chance .
The guys who won it in your list all had great defenses going for them. Plunkett is kind of a unique case. Al Davis prized toughness and attitude in his QB's above all other attributes. He stuck with some guys for years because of that attitude and had remarkable success mixed with some failures along the way. It might be interesting to look at who the great 'tude' QB's have been over the years and how they did compared to their peers. Namath obviously was one, as was Unitas. Elway and Marino were both great QB's who snapped at their own teammates on the field, as Plunkett regularly did, without worrying what it looked like to people watching. Trent Dilfer was a loud interruption for his teammates also, however he wore out his welcome pretty quickly on his teams.
According to reports they have no interest in KC or Ratliff, infact a QB does not have to be involved in the trade, but they are looking for D help and since they just switched to a 3-4, Harris would fit nice...I think it is easier to find a ILB to play next to Scott then a 25 y/o pro Bowl QB..
Two 1sts and something else seems to be the current speculative going rate. Shoot, I thought we'd have to throw in a QB. Harris is worth a 2nd at most and our 2nd is worth a 2nd, which add up to a 1st. So we'd be getting a franchise QB for two 1sts. A steal.
I dont think they are going to get 2 1st round picks, 1, 3 and a player would get it done, I think.. If they are looking for 2 number 1's that would mean paying 2 1st round bonus and salaries for the next 2 years...yes the can trade down etc. but on paper it is financial HELL
If we trade Harris I will be really upset. He and Bart Scott are going to be sick this year together. Also I have a Harris jersey.. but I will either way be really upset with out him. He was hurt last year and is ready for a beast of a season.
Nope. The team that does that is getting a steal, too. If it's us, we're giving up #17, and I guarantee with Cutler on board, our next pick would be in the high 20s at least.
