#1 Im pretty stoked we dont have to listen to the Mangini vs Bellichicken crap and hand shake or no hand shake.

#2 Does Thomas Jones really believe he deserves a new contract? Im tired of this whiny crap. Your line made you....deal with it.

#3 Are we really travelling to Oakland??? AGAIN?

#4 Id like to thank Favre for beating New England and Tennessee. Im satisfied with those two wins despite high hopes for the season.

#5 And last but not least, i dont care who the QB is....Trent Dilfer has a ring, build the Defense and the rest takes care of itself. (I do admit i am personnaly looking froward to Ratliffs progress)

Well said on all points, totally agree. Especially # 5

Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson rode defenses to rings, It didn't matter if it was Simms or Jeff Hostetler for the Giants because they had D, hell Neil O'Donnell, Chris Chandler, Kerry Collins, and Rex Grossman all got to the Super Bowl, anyone going to call them Franchise Qbs or even great QBs? Elway didn't get one until he had a sick running game, Dan Marino has no rings and they are considered amazing Qbs. There are plenty of examples, Old school football, run first and play defense, still wins. I have faith we are going to be ok with KC or BR.

Maybe Rex will punch Belichick in the face after a game.

ding ding ding, we have a winner. im tired about hearing about all this qb crap. i understand the interest in cutler, he is an exceptional talent. that didnt pan out, back to plan A, stick with the guys we got. Our defense should be pretty good, our running game is gonna be great again, i see us adding to the running game in day 1 of the draft.

Play physical football. Stuff it down their throats offense, and kill em all defense.

If Rex is anything like his father, I doubt he rates QB as that high a priority either. Buddy went on record with someone after the Bears won the Super Bowl and the guy asked him how well he felt McMahon played, and Buddy said something like 'It didn't matter who we had playing quarterback, the defense won that game.'

Stuff like that makes me lean toward the Jets stnding at #17 and going D.

Great point. The win in NE was one of my top 10 Jet moments of all time. Belly looked like he wanted to puke!

And blowing that lead made me want to puke. Something tells me we won't have to worry about seeing that chickenshit prevent crap again for a while.

Yeah, all good points. I think #1 would have been fine as long as we were winning, but the way NE has legitimately owned us, the BB EM shake or no shake was getting very old very fast.

Totally with you on 2. The man has no right to cry with 2 years left on his contract. Now, if he had another year like last year and was vying amongst the top 5 RBs in the NFL in terms of yardage and rushing TDs, then I couild understand the argument. Plus, the guy is starting to get old. No matter how you slice it, even though still productive, he is old for a running back.

I am of the philosphy that you need a great line on both sides of the ball if you want to be anything in professional football. As long as our offensive line continues to get better and with depth acquisition, then I think we will always be able to find somebody who won't fumble and be able to pick up yardage.

3, 4, and 5 all good. I think Ratliff has a punchers chance of beating out Clemens for the job if we do not draft a QB in the first round.

I agree, seems the plan is to put a "no turnover" offense out there and intercept/fumble-recover our way into the end zone. Seemed to work fairly well for the Ravens, although their QB turned out to be fairly good and we don't know what we have yet. I don't really care if we win 6-3 as long as its a win.
I'd feel a little uneasy giving away draft picks to trade up unless it was a no-doubter commodity that we desperately needed. I don't see that its the case this year. If there were a big, true #1 WR out there and we wouldn't have to mortgage the farm to get him, I could see that. I say we get the best player that's on the board at the time, provided we don't already have that spot covered. I also realize that the front office probably is much more knowledgeable on what/who we need than I am, especially on defense. I'm just a jackass with a green shirt that throws shit at the TV when we lose. It'll be interesting to see what happens though, I'll be watching on draft day.

#1 is what I'm really glad about, it seemed like under Mangini it sometimes seemed like it was about being better than the Patriots than it was being the best the Jets can be.

If he did, we could go 0-16 and I'd consider it a great season.

I'm down with all the points, especially about the QB situation. Let's win with defense, the 1990 Giants are the perfect example.

Only thing is the Oakland game is luck of the draw, nobody at fault there. We both took third in our divisions, that's the way it goes. They came to us in 2005 and 2006, we beat them both times.

    Good post Kyle...

#1 Im pretty stoked we dont have to listen to the Mangini vs Bellichicken crap and hand shake or no hand shake. Good riddance

#2 Does Thomas Jones really believe he deserves a new contract? Im tired of this whiny crap. Your line made you....deal with it. He's not an elite back

#3 Are we really travelling to Oakland??? AGAIN? How about playing them at home, for a change

#4 Id like to thank Favre for beating New England and Tennessee. Im satisfied with those two wins despite high hopes for the season. I agree
#5 And last but not least, i dont care who the QB is....Trent Dilfer has a ring, build the Defense and the rest takes care of itself. (I do admit i am personnaly looking froward to Ratliffs progress) I say let's see what the kid's got, because we already know what Clemens can't do

Excellent thread. Point 3 really grinds my gears!

And I'm with you (and apparently so are most) on 5. It's funny, a co-worker who is a Dolphins fan was talking to me today about us trading up for Sanchez. After I told him why that would be a dumb move, he responded that most Jets fans don't agree with me that we should give what we have a chance. I explained to him, thanks to this BB, that I think it's the NY MEDIA that doesn't agree with me, but by and large Jets fans are more interested in seeing what Clemens and Ratliff can do than trading up (and giving up picks) to draft Sanchez.

We had a prototypical quarterback who did all of the positive things number five asked of in Chad Penington and it clearly wasn't enough. we need a big armed QB who can deal with the meadowlands winds and do more than dink-and-dunk to nowhere and this is why we got Brett Favre and looked at Cutler seriously its because we NEED an upgrade at Quarterback and I know the GM and coaches understand this. This is why they will either trade up to get their guy in Mark Sanchez or somehow get our man if it is in fact Freeman for good value. I have faith in the guys upstairs to get this done and it is obviously the logical move. they don't see anything in there backups and its plain to see. I really see this and we also know wide receiver is a luxury pick and we will get it after we get our QB. perhaps as soon as the second round, or perhaps in the future no matter how near or far in time. I think this is the only logical plan and I have faith the Jets Brass will get it done.

let's keep with the rarity that is the lifetime defense and the game manager QB formula to win the SB... thats right, the Jets would rather take the hard way to do it.

I wonder if Ryan said, "I need a HOF field general" the fans would echo the same mentality. Ever since Ryan announced his philosophy the mentality has been his.

Yes we did have that in Chad, but we didnt have the dominating defense that we are trying to build........thats the point.

    About QB situation:

IMHO, QBs are also a product of good OL play. If you ask me, I still don't think Jets OL has that mean streak to make it the elite run-blocking unit. I'd love to see the Jets grab someone really mean and nasty in OL.

Once you have a mean running OL with adequate pass-blocking skill, you have two alternatives. First is, of course, Dilfer-izing the QB position. You want your QB to protect the ball, and win with strong running game and powerful defense. It's a valid way to win.

Another alternative is - this is actually what I would like, by the way - pulling Sid Gillman. Now that we do have QBs that can stretch the field (unlike Pennington) you can set up the big-play passing game by ramming down the throat of the defense with strong running game, then go bombs-away with passing. When it works, it's truly a thing of a beauty. (Remember Aikman-Smith-Irvin triplet, anyone?)

don't know if im all that stoked for a 'grind it out, low scoring team' with a respectable defense. boring? probably.

how much more fun did the pats have watching brady throw to moss for 3000 td's? but, of course, they lost the sb. sheesh.
