I'm predicting an 11-5/12-4 type of season here in 2009. #4 won't be here to collapse

QB: Mark Sanchez: The type of potential franchise QB that this team has needed for years now. Out with the old (Favre) and in with the new (Sanchez). Sanchez may only be a rookie but from what I've seen, he's more of a Matt Ryan/Philip Rivers type of talent over a game manager such as Joe Flacco. The Jets were sitting at 8-3 last year before Favre started to play like his age, which means this Jets team has serious talent and for some reason, I feel we have upgraded this team as a whole here in 09, including the QB position with a 22 year old QB in Mark Sanchez who seems to have the leadership ability to put up a Matt Ryan type of season. I love his accuracy, he can throw on the run better than any young QB I've seen over the years and he also has a solid arm. I'm pumped. Sanchez has that O-Line, Sanchez has that rushing attack, Sanchez has that pass catching TE and he also has a Defense that should keep the Jets in each and every game which is why Sanchez is in the perfect situation to step into a role of a starter here in 2009 while being just as if not more productive that Favre during the course of a 16 game season.

RB: We all know Thomas Jones led the AFC in rushing yard, we all know that he set an all time Jets record for the most rushing TD's in a season and lets give credit where credit is due, Thomas Jones is still a work horse type of back but it was our Offensive line who led the way for our rushing attack there in 2008. All in all, I'm glad that we have a veteran running back that can be our work horse here in 2009 while keeping the rookie pressure off of a young QB in Sanchez.

Leon Washington: One of the best talents in the game today, explosive in the open field, can catch outta the backfield and can turn nothing into something on any given play. I have a feeling Rex Ryan and company will give this man the ball a good 10+ times here in 2009. Most teams need that 3rd down/change of pace back, the Jets have one in Leon. He's a game changer and a play maker, the Jets are +1 on most NFL teams thanks to Leons ability to make plays.

Shonn Greene: The type of power back that we have missed since Lamont Jordan and the thing is...He's a much better overall talent. He's the type of Northeast/Smash mouth/Grind it out type of back that our rushing attack can take advantage of down in the Red Zone/Goal-Line here in 09. Only college back to rush for over 100+ yards last year, had two game with 140+ yards, two games with 150+ yards and another two games with 200+ yards as a first year starter for Iowa last year. Over 1800 yards, 20 TD's, MVP of the bowl game, took home the "Doak Walker" award which is given to the best running back in the Nation and he also had 0 Fumbles while doing so. How did Shonn Greene fall to the 3rd round? Something tells me the Jets just landed a natural talent and a back that will upgrade our rushing attack here in 2009.

FB- Tony Richardson: He's still clicking and thats what matters the most. He's up there in age but he doesn't play a "Skill position" so I can live with that. He's still on of the best run blocking FB's in the game today and he's been doing this for backs such as Marcus Allen, Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Adrian Peterson and was the lead blocker for Thomas Jones last year, he's still really productive and as a Jets fan, I'm glad he's still here.

TE-Dustin Keller: How can I tell you all something that we already know? I cant. We all know he's a natural talent and in my eyes, he's already an Antonio Gates type of pass catching threat that can cause miss matches for just about any Defense and since we have a young QB in Mark Sanchez, I look for Dustin Keller to have a monster season here in 2009. We all know that a solid Defense, a strong rushing attack and a tough O-Line are all young QB's best friend but you know what? So are pass catching talents. If you look @ what Gates has done for Rivers, Witten has done for Romo, Heap has done for Flacco along with Big Ben and Heath Miller...You would see that these vertical TE's actually open up the field for other threats to make plays which is key for the success of a young QB such as Mark Sanchez. Our Offense is blessed to have Keller, thats all I know.

O-Line: We have that Franchise LT in D'Brickishaw Ferguson who has started each and every game since being drafted, we have that elite Center in Nick Mangold who can dominate the L.O.S, we have that run blocking LG in Faneca who's a future HOF player, he's only 31 and if you ask me, he's still one of the best run blocking guards in the game today, we have that veteran RT in Woody who we can count on and we also have a player in Moore who's really underrated. Back in 2004, During Moore's first year as a starter, Curtis Martin rushed for the most yards and once again, last year...Thomas Jones rushed for the most yards of any AFC Back. The man can run block and I'm glad he's still a Jet. Overall...This is a top 5 O-Line.

WR- Cotchery is that possession WR that every QB needs to move the chains and pick up the tough 1st downs, thats what I love about Cotchery. He's a tough, aggressive, strong type of WR who can make the tough catch down the middle of the field and can keep the chains moving. He's only 26 years of age and has played for three different QB's over the past 3 years and has wracked up more than 70 catches for 800+ yards in each and every season. It's his chance to man the #1 WR position and I feel he can produce at a higher level than Coles has over the years. It's his time to shyne here in 09.

Clowney is a huge question mark but one thing is for sure, he has elite speed opposite of Cotchery which should be exciting here in 2009. I look for Clowney to have a breakout year and make a name for himself here in 2009. We should know more about this kid here in 2009 after our 4 preseason games and lets just hope for the best because this kid has skill...We just gotta use him in the right types of ways.

Stuckey: I was impressed with Stuckey as a slot WR for the most part there in 2008 but lets not forget, he was only a rookie who was learning on the fly. He should have a solid year here in 2009 because he now has the playing time, experience and feel for the game thats needed to become a stand out type of player for our Offense. I'm expecting a solid 2nd year for Stuckey in the slot.

Overall...I'm confident with this offense. We have that potential Franchise QB thats going to be exciting to watch, we have that top 5 O-Line, we have that strong rushing attack, we have that pass catching TE, we have a WR in Cotchery who can make plays for Sanchez just like he's done for Pennington, Clemens and Favre over the years, we have a speed burner in Clowney and we also have an up and coming slot WR in Stuckey which should all make for a really solid Offense but I wont lie, I look for our O-Line and rushing attack to keep our Defense fresh and simply tire down opposing D's for 60 Mins.

Secondary- Revis and Sheppard should make for one of the best 1-2 Punches here in 2009 at the CB position. Sheppard has been injury prone, but when healthy, he's one of the best around. No matter what, I'll take a CB who's 28 years of age in Sheppard who has SHUT DOWN WR's such as Moss, T.O and Harrison over the years over a 35 year old CB in Ty Law who couldn't come up with a big play to save his career.

Rhodes and Leonard should also be really aggressive under Rex Ryan and if anything, Rhodes should become the Ed Reed type of leader that we all know he can become. He's already the leader of our secondary which is a + but something tells me thats not enough, something tells me that Rex Ryan will use Kerry Rhodes in a special type of way for years to come. The talent is there, the ability is there and if we have any type of pass rush...Look for Rhodes, Revis and Sheppard to ball hawk with the best of em. Lowery and Strickland should also make for a solid Nickel/Dime package but I'm not sure about Strickland, never really seen the man play.

Remember Abram Elam in pass coverage? It was horrid right? Thats the reason why Mangini couldn't send Rhodes on the blitz over the past two years, thats because Elam was lost and confused out in pass coverage and honestly..Sending Rhodes on the blitz would have exposed our whole secondary. This is why I'm loving the Leonard signing...He's a natural pass coverage safety which will give Rex Ryan the option to send Kerry Rhodes on the blitz like no tomorrow.

LB:- This is where I'm pumped up. David Harris and Bart Scott should make for the best 1-2 Punch at IMLB here in 2009, hands down. Bart Scott is about to bring a trash talking, in your face, never allow the Defense to quit type of mentality that we havn't seen since Bran Cox. David Harris and Bart Scott, behind a beast of a NT in Kris Jenkins? Are you kidding me? Our Defense can be tough as nails to run against here in 2009 and I cant wait.

OLB- We all know what Pace brings to the table and thats pressure on the QB but with Rex Ryan allowing Vernon Gholston to do what he does best, rush the passer...I think the sky is the limit for this Defense under Rex. Mangini had a rookie in V.G trying to "read and react" and it wasn't working because Gholston was simply lost and confused out there. How can a player be aggressive and confident when he's confused? I'm just confident that Rex will allow this man to rush QB's in obvious passing situations because this kid is a beast of a talent and I feel Rex Ryan can bring the best outta Gholston. Time will tell but I'm loving Pace, Gholston/Thomas from the outside.

D-Line: Two words; Kris Jenkins. Ellis has always been productive and this Douglas guy has been ranked in the top 5 over the past 5 years from Defensive players making tackles for L's behind the L.O.S.

Really? Thats funny, because last offseason...I predicted Thomas Jones to have a MONSTER year (That was after he only rushed for 1 TD the year before) and guess what? I was right on the money.

    http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=30289

    See for yourself.

Last year I seen upgrades in Faneca over Montgomery, Woody over Clement, Jenkins over Robertson, Harris as our #1 3-4 IMLB over Vilma, Pace/Gholston as upgrades over Hobson/Thomas along with Richardson as our run blocking FB.

This year I see upgrades in Sheppard over Law, Leonard over Elam, Shonn Greene as our power back, Bart Scott over Barton, Rex Ryan over Mangini, Douglas over Coleman, Gholston working with Rex instead of Mangini...

Instead of telling me B.S like "you are seriously overrating the talent on this Jets team." How about you actually try and bring a little insight and add something to this message board, try and talk football for once Dierking.

I agree with most of the points listed.. but

    A. Gawd you repeat yourself a lot... I read a post by you yesterday that carried a lot of the same information. Repetition is not very effective in a forum community, people want to see new information.

    B. The way you say "that" before referring to something; ("We have that potential Franchise QB that's..." etc...) really makes me want to punt a kitten.

    C. Most of the people that bother to sign up to a Jets forum watch most/all of the games and follow the team pretty closely (always exceptions). You make a lot of state-the-obvious type posts, and it gets a little annoying.

Stop acting you were the only one that thought that. Everyone in that thread agreed with you. You know what? It's not hard to predict that a starting caliber RB will have more than 1 TD after his OL is upgraded.

as excited as I am about Sanchez, you can't say he's going to be better than Favre was last season.

Favre was great to watch for (most of) the first 11 games. We all know what happened after that. I wouldn't be shocked to see Sanchez put up similar overall numbers to Favre last season, but you can't honestly say this years team will be better when the most important position on the offense is a giant question mark

Look, kid, the optimism is great. If you weren't so obviously new to following the Jets you'd understand why its rarely warranted, especially on a team with a new HC, QB and MLB. Other than that, read what frozensmoke has to say and take it to heart. You really aren't adding a whole lot by making a post like this everyday based upon how excited you are about the guys on our roster. Post about your favorite color or something.

And it's not hard to predict upgrades with Bart Scott over Barton.

It's not hard to predict that Gholston will have a much greater impact here in 2009 under Rex Ryan.

It's not hard to predict that a CB who's 28 years of age will be a huge upgrade over a 35 year old CB in Ty Law.

It's not hard to predict that Leonard is an upgrade over Elam, a man that couldn't play the pass for ish.

It's not hard to see the talent that Shonn Greene brings to the offensive side of the ball as a tough RB.

It's not hard to predict that players such as Keller, Lowery and Stuckey gained much needed experience as rookies there in 2008.

It's not hard to predict that Rex Ryan is an upgrade over Mangini.

It's not hard to predict that this Jets team is a better team here in 2009 over a 2008 team that went 9-7.

I also predicted that Kris Jenkins would improve our whole front 7 last year and a lot of other Jet fans were saying he's nothing more than a good 4-3 DT who's never played the 3-4 NT position before.

    Okay gotcha.

I dont think our record will be that good because we have such a tough schedule, a new HC, a new DC, and a new QB, but what do i know?

I'm just going to re-quote this in case if he missed it the first time. I have him on ignore but I'm sure it's the same shit he posts every damn time he posts.

    On topic with the thread:

To be entirely honest, I'm expecting anywhere between 7-9 and 9-7. We're got superior talent for the most part except there will likely be a rookie QB starting and the schedule's leaps and bounds harder. Taking into account that injuries could hamper one or two key players as they usually do for any team, I see us as most likely a 3rd place team this year, with a small chance of sneaking in the back door for a playoff spot dependent on how Sanchez plays.

Realistically, I think we're a year of building depth and nabbing a true #1 WR from truly being able to compete on a consistent level. Again, Cotchery's a great player, but doesn't nab enough attention to lift the WR corps as a whole and I'm not debating this issue with anyone here, there's another thread for that. I could easily see Tanny trading up for one of Dez Bryant, Arrelious Benn, or Derrick Williams next year in the draft to get "his guy" again.

For the record, my prediction is 10-6. I predict that every year.
