I'm predicting an 11-5/12-4 type of season here in 2009. #4 won't be here to collapse

We are weaker at both QB and WR. Cotchery will face top corners every week now, without an equal across the field to free up for the other. Our #2 receiver will come from a collection of question marks.

The Bills [Owens] and Patriots [Brady, retooled D] have improved, the Dolphins may have [Pat White in the wildcat]

Last year was our easiest schedule in years, we knew this from day 1.

We are in the first year of a new defensive system.

Kenyon Coleman is out, and replaced with an aging vet. Ellis is a year older.

Dustin Keller is the only notable TE on our roster, and he barely qualifies as a TE.

It's easy to make lists either way. I say the ups and downs even out and we're still a 9-7 team.

11-5/12-4 is a pipe dream. Its great to look at things from your own team's progress, but as someone right above me posted, other teams have also improved. There's a guy in New England...his name is Tom. He'll be back. They upgraded quite a few positions in the off season as well. T.O. is good for a few points, up in Buffalo. Miami, I can see, taking a step backwards.

    anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6

I just don't see us quite there yet. We are unproven at QB our WRs other then Cotchery haven't done anything. Keller talented TE but still not consistent enough production out of this postion. But Keller will make whoever is playing QB easier because a good TE is a qb's best friend. O-line will be bettter then last year because of more continuatity. D-line isn't getting any younger, LBs will have a great season inside with Scott and Harris. Gholston might do something who knows. Secondary will be great man to man but the CBs can't cover forever without a pass rush. But it all boils down to QB Play. This team can either be 6-10 or 10-6

Pipe dream? The talent is here. Ferguson, Faneca, Mangold, Thomas Jones, Leon, Shonne Greene, Dustin Keller, Cotchery, Stuckey, Jenkins, Harris, Scott, Pace, Gholston, Revis, Rhodes, Sheppard, Ellis...Dont blame those guys for what happened last year.

We actually went 7-1 heading into our last 5 games of the year, before Favre broke down as an over the hill, past his prime type of QB.

During that 8-1 streak, we beat teams such as Arizona and Tennessee, we actually dominated both teams like no tomorrow. Lets not forget about that O.T win against the Patriots during that run.

Then...The final 5 games came and Favre was hurt. Wanna see his QB raitings? They were worse than Ryan Leaf. He threw 9 INT's with only 2 TD's and if not for Favre...We would have took the AFC East, hands down.

Last five weeks. (1-4), QB raitings of...

    60.9
    60.8
    61.4
    48.7
    45.1

The Talent on this team had us at 8-3, Favre was just doing what average QB's do...Manage the games. He had 20 TD's along with 13 INT's during our 8-3 record...Nothing special. He had 2461 passing yards during our 1st 11 games and that an average of 223 yards per game.

Pennington only had 11 TD's during MIA's first 11 games but he only had 6 INT's. Pennington had 2715 passing yards after 11 games and thats an average of 246 yards per game..

Once again, Favre did nothing special while OUR TEAM went 8-3.

Wanna see Penningtons QB raitings the last 5 weeks?

    79.3
    104.2
    124.0
    111.8
    113.2

He threw 8 TD's with only 1 INT...I wonder why they went 5-0 and we went 1-4

It's called a 40 year old breaking down and ruining any type of chance at a magical season.

Yeah I'm thinking my 8-8 bottom may be a bit high. Hell, we could end up winning 5 games.

I'm thinking 9-7 with potential to go 11-5

    Texans - W
    Patriots - L
    Titans - L
    Saints - L
    Dolphins- L
    Bills-W
    Raiders - W
    Dolphins - W
    Jaguars - W
    Patriots- W
    Panthers- L
    Bills- W
    Buccaneers- W
    Falcons- L
    Colts- L
    Bengals- W

I think We have a Good chance against the Fins in week 5, and the Colts in week 16. It all depends on the development of our offense. I think our defense will play hard under Ryan all year. I don't think 9-7 would be enough for a wild-card spot this year, 10-6 gets us in though. I think we just miss the playoffs ... I'm really looking forward to 2010 though.

Its a good dream, don't get me wrong, but dude, Favre had some masterful moments that, frankly, won't be there this year. Coles is gone. We have no blocking TE.

As little as you think Favre did for the team last season, trust me, he did far more. Even as Favre was sitting back there the last 5 games, imploding, teams were still respecting him. You better hope our QBs can get it done otherwise you'll be looking at 8 in the box all year and TJ is gonna get stuffed regularly.

The only thing less useful than predictions in May?

Predictions in April. Just under the wire.

Rexy hasn't even thrown a training camp barbecue yet. How can he be a called a coaching upgrade?

    @ Texans=Win.

vs Patriots=Win. This will be the Jets home opener and I could see us running the ball on those guys like no tomorrow with a Rex Ryan Defense going after Brady with Guns blazing. Please dont tell me Fred Taylor is going to rush for over 70 yards and I cant see Moss doing anything special against Revis. Lets not forget that Tom Brady is coming off a serious knee injury that required surgery, he's going to be rusty and if anything...At the age of 31, he may never be the QB that he once was. I aint just "Giving" this team a win based on recent success. Who's their CB's? Shawn Springs? lol.

vs Titans=Win. No albert Haynesworth='s no 13-3 type of team. They just lost a top 5 Defensive player and I cant see them winning more than 9 games here in 09.

@ Saints= Loss. I can see us getting our 1st L of the year on the road against an up and coming Saints team with Drew Brees running the show.

@ Miami= Win. Since when had Pennington been able to beat tough D's? I can see Rex Ryan calling the plays and crushing this MIA attack just like he did last year in the playoffs with the Ravens.

vs Buffalo=Win. We usually split with these guys, and I'll take the home win against Trent Edwards and the Bills.

@ Oakland=Win. Rex Ryan wont allow this team to play soft on the road, Rex Ryan wont allow the Raiders to win again here in 2009.

vs Miami= Win, sweep of Pennington and the Fish.

vs Jacksonville= Loss. I can see this team having a good game against us and taking a W after we just came off a bye week. Their rushing attack is 2nd to none and they've always had a solid D.

@ NE=Loss. I can see us splitting with these guys while losing two games in a row for the 1st time of the year.

vs Carolina= Win. We wont lose 3 in a row and if we can stuff their rushing attack...We could and should walk away with a W.

@ Buffalo=Loss, we usually split with these guys.

@ Tampa Bay= Win. They might just be a 3-13 team here in 09.

vs Atlanta= Win. Could be a close game but I could see Mark Sanchez playing better than Ryan this game.

@ Colts= Loss. Manning is lights out at home, enough said.

Bengals= Win. They could be another 3-13 team and with the playoffs on the line...The Jets will win this one.

11-5 right there with a chance to go 12-4 with a sweep of the Bills.

Sounds like a super bowl team to me. Hard to take him seriously man, you got to be kidding me. Its all good!!! You lost me after Sanchez. After last year, with the 8-3 record and the coach I went to bat for, the glass is 1/2 full for me. You are setting yourself up for more pain. And Favre did not play run defense the last 5 games. It was the whole team, not just the selfish one

    You're gonna jinx us again.

I'll never forget last year when you called out Pats fans to eat crow before we even played them. We then subsequently lost to them the following week.

In fact, I place the blame for last season's collapse entirely on you and the bad karma you brought to the team.

    Oh...my...God...

I really didn't want to, but I clicked View Post. It was like a car accident. I just had to look.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this season if everything falls into place, but this was nothing but a list of nearly everyone on the roster. For the new posters in this thread, this is what the guy does. He's excited about EVERYTHING and tells you about it over and over and over again. There's a reason why he can point to correct predictions of success. He predicts that EVERYTHING will go well. He leaves no stone unturned. Some things are bound to hit.

What you'll never see is a point or insight that isn't just "I have a good feeling" or a statistic that he (badly) copied from someone else.

    For example, about Shonn Greene:

There was a thread before his banning in which Shonn Greene came up. Someone mentioned that he rushed for 100+ yards in EVERY GAME last season. TampaBayDolphinsFan was excited about this, and became excited by the prospect of selecting him. So, here comes that stat, only now it appears Greene was the only back in D1 to rush for more than 100 yards...in the entire season.

Also, can someone please tell me what a Northeast type runner is, as TBDF referred to Shonn Greene? Is that a back who insists upon running diagonally? I believe he meant North-South runner. Probably another poorly regurgitated and borrowed idea.

And we have Leon Washington. Again, in an earlier thread, the prospect of Percy Harvin came up. Most of us were arguing that the types of touches Harvin would demand would cut into the anticipated bump in Leon's touches. We were hoping for 10 - 15 offensive touches per game for Leon. Suddenly, he's staring at 10+ times...for the entire season.

And yet, you then spend 5 additional lines doing just that.

I'm sorry, what did Heap do for Flacco? He turned in his worst 16 game season of his career, and his worst yds/game average since his rookie season...8 years ago.

I agree, he's a fantastic possession WR, so...

...why would you think he'd suddenly become a different receiver?

No. He missed playing in his rookie season due to injury, but he was on the team in 2007.

I'm not going to quote the numerous times that you just drop random shit without any reasoning other than "I just have a feeling", but this one stands out. Can you please point to these games? I've watched some Eagles games through the years, and I'm optimistic about Sheppard as a #2, but I also seem to recall TO going off for 200 yards and 2 TDs against Sheppard (who looked demoralized by the end of the game) a couple of years ago, and I remember that Sheppard was lined up against Wayne for Philly's last Indy game. Do you have any backup for the statement above, or were you just making optimistic assumptions? How many times have you actually seen Sheppard play?

WTF is an IMLB? A month ago, you were calling David Harris our 3-4 MLB. Now it's IMLB. W....T....F....two ILBs in a 3-4. It's really not that difficult.

We've been seeing this same exact post for months now, multiple times per week, updated with new information that you poorly copied from other posters, or the simple "Well, my opinion is that he's good, and opinions can never be wrong." People dislike you as a poster because you bring absolutely nothing to the board in any manner other than the bullseye. It's a shame that you still post here, because I clicked on that link above, and it would appear you're much more welcome and appreciated on Jets Insider. Have you considered a full time switch?

Ok, all done. I'll go back to ignoring you now. Hopefully, next time I see a ridiculous thread, I'll be able to avoid clicking "View Post".

I can't understand the whole "we are a franchise WR away from contending" argument.
I don't really think the Ravens had any last season, and the Patriots before Moss either.

Good teams win period. They need a few breaks along the way but consistency is the key.
As long as we win the games we should win and a few tough ones against better teams, we can surprise a lot of people.
The defense we built here is leaps and bounds better then the one last season.
Favre didn't win us any games on his own but did lose us a few that way, so losing him is a non issue.
As long as the starting QB is smart with the football this team has a legit shot.

let's not be hasty here TBJF. we had a cupcake schedule last year compared to this year, and to say we are going to get 2 or 3 more wins i think is a little bit premature, or at least setting yourself up for disappointment. to add to this, think about having sanchez instead of favre... to have those expectations without knowing what you're going to get is again, setting yourself up for disappointment.

+1, a Jets fan that actually gets it...A Jets fan that actually understands.

And we never had a #1 WR to begin with. Since when did "Coles" make players around him better? He didnt. Wanna see a real #1 WR? Go look at numbers that Burress, Moss, T.O and Harrison put up, Coles was NEVER a #1 WR. Cotchery can be. He's only 26 and full of talent and potential.

Coles had 215 catches over the past 3 seasons which is an average of 72 catches per season. 2594 yards which is an average of 864 yards per season with 19 TD's which was an average of 6.3 TD's per season. Keep in mind, Coles has always been Chad's favorite WR and #1 WR...Cotchery never was.

Cotchery has had 235 catches over the past 3 seasons which is an average of 78.3 catches per season. 2949 yards which is an average of 983 yards per season with only 13 TD's but lets not forget, he's only 26 and was never our #1 option.

Put Cotchery as our #1 WR and watch what he does here in 2009...Just watch. We may not throw the ball 35+ times a game but Cotchery will have his best year as a Jet here in 09 as our #1 WR.
