Burress is going to jail first, then we'll see who he makes it to. I suspect that Goodell is going to ban him for at least a season after he's eligible, alcohol plus guns plus carelessness = way wrong message for kids.

If he was absolutely going to jail then why would his attorneys bother working on a plea deal which would allow him to defer his sentence until after the season?

It would be counterproductive to their own defense efforts. The question remains if NYC and Bloomberg will consent to this plea deal and let him defer his jailtime.

If so, then I'd sign him in a heartbeat. Cheap, homerun threat. Something we need.

He's never been suspended by the NFL for personal conduct, regardless of a jail sentence I don't think he'll be suspended for more than 4-8 game, not a whole season

First off, there's been a lot of talk this week of him being able to play the 2009 season BEFORE serving a sentence. I also think that while his mistake was careless and just plain stupid, that the only person hurt in the situation was himself, and there are plenty of guys that have done worse things without being banned from the league for a year or more. Larry Johnson has had several assault charges on a couple different women (including his wife if I remember correctly) and he only faced a minimal suspension.

If he becomes a player for the Jets, he will probably shoot himself in the balls next time.

Burress will at most get a 4 game suspension. He will probably serve jail time in the off-season. He needs to be a Jet. We need him, he needs us.

There is no way in hell that Goodell is going to let Burress play before his legal situation has been resolved. Can you just see him smiling into the cameras at the Super Bowl after catching the winning TD with all of the NFL hierarchy wincing in the background? Can you see Disney letting him say the magic words?

If he does somehow get a pass on this for the 2009 season I'll be shocked and the NFL will be buggered from a public relations point of view.

Isn't this the 3rd incarnation of this discussion on the board regarding Burress?

Burress is gonna show up at Jets camp the 2nd week of August and start opening day. The Giants suspended him, heading off the NFL and that will count plus the 6 weeks in jail thar he's gonna do now. That's my hope

i'd think he'd thrive in this loose atmosphere and locker room.

I wonder if after having a bullet go through his body it matured him at all.

Being shot changes a human being. Hopefully, Plax won't be as stupid as he used to.

If he becomes what Tank Johnson has in terms of maturing after an incident he'd be a great addition.

I love how all you guys just assume Burress is in impecable shape....and will just pile up the receiving yards in the Green/White this year.

    1) He's more than likely going to jail
    2) He'll probably get suspended
    3) The guy shot himself in the fucking leg....wideouts generally need TWO healthy legs to be somewhat serviceable in this league.

I haven't seen any reports saying what kind of physical shape Burress is in.

So before everybody starts "spankin' their weiners" in the hopes of Plaxico getting signed.....how about we observe the legal proceedings he must first endure....and then...let's see if he's physically capable to compete.

He didnt shoot himself yesterday. It was 6 months ago. If he is activly trying to make a comeback, why would he keep himself in bad shape? He will more than likely get the trial delayed. He faces at most a 4game suspension for a first offense.

From what I remember from the reports after he was shot, that the bullet didn't permanently damage anything in his leg. It went through some of the softer muscle tissue in his thigh, but there was no reason to believe that this would affect him long term. I'm not trying to say that Plax is the missing piece to the puzzle and that with the addition of him we will be an instant super-bowl team. I am not that naive.

However, I think the situation is low-risk for us; we can get a good value wide-out for a low price. He's tall, fast, and has good hands. He's certainly a better #1 than J-Co. If he sucks, is suspended, or doesn't fit in, chances are we're not going to lose much money in the process.

Better than going out and spending 8-10 mil a year on a receiver with a bad case of "The Dropsies" (like Braylon Edwards). While I like Braylon, who is younger and quite talented, there's a lot more to lose if he can't get over that mental hurdle.

He had a plea in his pocket that would have had himout of jail in time for football but he refused it. Now, Bloomberg has given the DA the word to go go hard on him....

I'll be surprised if he's playing this year... but you never know.

As long as that winning TD is for the Jets, I am fine with it:beer:

I highly doubt that to be true. If Plax and his team turned down a plea deal they wouldn't be fighting for that same exact plea deal right now. Furthermore the entire world would have known that he and his legal team refused this deal and he would've gotten even more shit for being so dumb to turn down such a deal.

Where did you get that info. from? Also Bloomberg has told his guys to go hard after Burress from Day 1. He never made any kind of plea offer to Burress.

That would have been huge news if true which I doubt it is.

Details? Article Link? Again why would Burress' team reject a plea deal that they are now fighting to get? Makes no sense.

And coming from the DA's perspective: Why would they agree to a plea deal with Burress if they already made him the same offer and he refused?

If this was the case, and it's a big IF, They would have rejected all future pleas and tried to give him the hardest sentence possible.
