I used to love Shaun Powell's writing in Newsday. One of the few writers for local teams I actually enjoyed reading. I haven't read Newsday in years, except once last week in the barber shop, and there was nothing by him, just some terrible ones that more resembled poorly formed internet blogs on paper. That was not an example of Powell's better work. It was simply meant to provoke the reaction he claims the Yankees do, either highly positive or highly negative. There was no real substance to it. Sad really.
Ok, if you didn't like that one you might like this one. A fan's blog response to last night's game. Another disappointing yankee performance* "Well, the Yankee fans don't have too much to cheer about tonight. Despite squeeking out an 11-1 victory, the cracks in this deeply flawed team continue to widen. Despite the win, their lead over the vastly superior Red Sox is a mere 6 1/2 games, with even smaller 2 1/2 game leads over the Angels for the best record in the AL and 3 games over the Dodgers. Pathetic. Their record of not winning the world series for 10 years has been extended by another day. This, of course, is because the Red Sox were playing the division leading 59-54 Tigers, while the Yankees had their hands full with the little league 60-54 Mariners. Where to start with all the Yankee's failings? ARod went hitless again, as did Posada, proving that Youklis and Varitek are much better players. The fact that ARod and Posada didn't play is imaterial. Derek Jeter again demonstrated his lack of impact, scoring only 2 runs and batting in only 1 despite going 2 for 4 with a home run. The Yankees only managed 3 homers on the night, and only because of the short porch in Yankee stadium, which anyone who can tell a baseball from a bass drum knows affects the wind patterns in Seattle, but only when the Yankees are batting. As for the pitching, CC only gave up 1 run over 8 innings, which looks good to people who don't know baseball like I do, but anyone with half a brain woudl realize that this is infinitely more than he gave up in his freak shutout of the red sox. following this trend, he will give up 2 runs next game, 3 the game after that, and by the post season will be giving up 10 or more runs per game. It's simple math. The bullpen was even worse. The Yank's knew Rivera would be unable to hold the lead, so they were forced to bring in Bruney, who may have pitched a 1-2-3 inning, but required eight pitches to maintain the victory. His performance was so bad he didn't even qualify for a save. Clearly, the wheels are falling off the Yankee bus: no surprise given that it was built by Cashman, the worst GM in the majors, and is driven by Girardi, the worst manager. When the Yankees come to Fenway next week you will see who the superior team is. I can't wait to see the mighty Sox crush the vastly inferior Yankees just like Youklis levelled Porcello. If I promise to take my medication, they say they will let me watch... *Note to red sox fans: this thread is a parody. Yankee fans, having IQs higher than room temperature, already know this. That was actually amusing. All day I've been saying to my fellow Yankees fans at work that this team needs to score more runs. The initial sinkface, followed by the "O I C wut U did thar" looks are great.

Among John's Great Laws of Baseball is this: Bad things always happen when you walk the leadoff batter ... BUT this also a Great Law: ... you can NEVER predict what's going to happen in baseball. I feel like the robots in that Star Trek episode: "If you walk the leadoff batter, then you can predict bad things will happen ... but you can never predict what will happen in baseball .... but bad things are predictable when walking a leadoff batter ... but it's baseball, so I cannot predict that ... illogical, ILLOGICAL!!!" ... then my head explodes. Abraham reporting that Joba will pitch Sunday, but not til the 25th after. That makes more sense for lining things up for the Boston series. Today at Seattle: Pettitte Tomorow at Seattle: Mitre Sunday at Seattle: Chamberlain Monday at Oakland: Burnett Tuesday at Oakland: Sabathia Wednesday at Oakland: Gaudin Thursday: off Aug. 21 at Boston: Pettitte Aug. 22 at Boston: Burnett Aug. 23 at Boston: Sabathia Aug. 24: off Aug. 25 vs. Texas: Chamberlain
I don't think it changes the Boston lineup at all..It was always Pettitte, Burnett and Sabathia because of the off day. I hope Chamberlain managed to get his bullpen in now that they changed his start yet again.
Gotta feel for Pettitte..I know he has a ton of different escalators in his contract that can get him up to 12 million...I hope one of them isn't wins because he keeps pitching good enough to win but never gets the decision.
Obviously not for the whole year but at this point in the season they are looking a lot like the '98 Yankees. Different people winning every night, good pitching and a good pen. Almost an .800 winning percentage since the break. They are clicking everywhere right now.
