i would hardly call it a controversy....we all know sanchez will be the starter if not from the start at some point in the season...its more a matter of who is more beneficial to start the year clemens or sanchez....the outcome is already known...but it is a true QB competition which is something we haven't seen here in years.
Like the OP and this one, I agree , let KC prove himself with a proper series. My one beef is that Sanchez has the excuse of being a rook, KC made a rookie mistake and really should be a whole lot better than he is.
This is Clemens 4th season in the offense and he still looked shaky and rushed out there at times yesterday. The Jets are nuts if they don't just hand the ball to Sanchez and let him work out the kinks this year. Clemens is not going to work out the kinks in his game as long as Schotty is the OC. If he had that ability he would have done so already.
Agreed. If he starts this year, expect quite a few of those moments. The only real barometer is if they decrease as time goes. I just don't see KC adding anything that Sanchez can't provide immediately.
Schotty needs to quit trying to pull the fancy schmancy stuff (like the double reverse on our 9 yard line....really??) and start calling better plays for our offense.
Yeah and 2 consecutive run plays after that. That was horrendous. When you have that many guys up on the line either looking to blitz or show blitz and pull coverage, it doesn't generally help the running game. I think Schotty is too smart for his own good.
Same here, this was what I was expecting. I wanted to see how he would come back from throwing a stupid INT and getting his head beaten in against one of the best defenses in the league, and I don't think he did too bad on that last drive at all. He regained his composure and made a heads-up play on a good read to Leon. People expecting him to be lights-out against that team have their head in the clouds. But... I have to agree with winston. I am still completely unimpressed with Brian Schottenheimer.
+1 Sanchez needed to be slapped around and make the mistakes he made.....it's all a part of his learning curve. I was more impressed that he came back with a TD drive....there's no "quit" in this kid. Albeit...Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs weren't on the field for Sanchez's TD drive....but still....it should've worked wonders for his confidence.
Funny part is I read a post of yours yesterday I believe and it was like..."I want to see him get smacked upside the head and throw an INT and see how he responds" So like...what are the winning lottery numbers going to be this week?
Hahaha, man I'm lucky if I ever get one number each time I buy a ticket. I'll stick to predicting the Jets' QBs will get smacked around by great defenses.
That's so F'in funny you say that. Every few months I'll say WTF and buy a $5 ticket. I don't think I've ever, for real, gotten even 3 numbers. Some are meant to suffer from start to finish. I need someone to talk me off the ledge after this conversation.
I like the way Sanchez hung in there and got something positive to come away with. He had played all of one series in his life up until last night, I hardly expected him to go out there and pick apart the Ravens starting D. Clemens, aside from the inexcusable first bad ball, looked as good as I've seen him. I loved the pass to Clowney and the one to Smith was perfect. Even though it was dropped the coaches and everyone saw it was perfectly placed. I actually felt good about both guys, whoever plays plays, I don't think it's any secret that eventually it will be Sanchez's job unless he completely shits the bed. Even Ainge looked pretty good.
At the end of the day Sanchez was drafted to be the Qb of this team so we might as well let him play now. We have a decent line and good running game so he might as well play now. No sense in delaying the inevitable. Hopefully we can pick up a Wr to help him out.
Start Clemens I have to agree with the people saying start Clemens. Give the kid his break, he's earned it. It gives Sanchez a little more time to absorb things, and you give Celemens a chance to really sink or swim. If he stinks put in Sanchez earlier and let him get broken in more. If you start Sanchez too early it will be a mistake especially if he gets off to a rocky start, he might not recover. The look of fear in his eyes after the first few blitzes last night was a little scary. It's pretty obvious we aren't playoff bound, so use this year to get our ducks in a row, don't rush things for the sake of rushing things.
Here's the problem I see with this: There's no clear indication that Sanchez is going to come off the bench and be the hero. In fact, I think the odds are stacked against him making an immediate impact, whether he plays or sits. He's a raw talent with a lot of trained skills and has intangiables. He lacks experience at a pro level. The only way he's going to take it to the next level is to play that level and have it slow down for him. Right now, i think his biggest issue is the game is faster than what he's used to. Throw him in there and let him do his thing. He'll get it.
I tend to agree. If nothing else Clemens is a nice buffer and like you said, it gives you somewhere to go if we get off to a bad start. If Sanchez starts and struggles we're kind of painted into a corner.
