How has Clemens earned his shot? I've heard this argument over and over and I couldn't disagree more. He hasn't earned it. If sitting on the bench for 3 years is how you earn a starting shot, then every 2nd and 3rd QB out there deserves a shot. That's like world peace, and abolishing hunger world-wide. it all sounds great, but it's just not practical.
If we get off to a bad start, Sanchez doesn't need to come in to be the hero. He's going to come in an assume the reins and begin the Sanchez era for good or bad. If Sanchez starts week 1 and shits the bed, he's 'bust city' all over New York and half the fanbase is looking at the guy on the bench. You don't just start Sanchez to let him 'take his lumps' if he continues to look like he did last night. That's suicide.
There're 16 games in a season. If getting off to a bad "start" is all we have to watch out for, hell there should be no competition. Sanchez, hands down. There's no painted into a corner wih your future QB. The only way they paint themselves into a corner is by benching Sanchez for Clemens when we're in the middle of the season.
Sanchez and Clemens both looked bad last night. This team is goign to lean on our running game and the QB, whom ever gets the start, can not make the kind of mistakes they made. With that said I belive Sanchez has the potential to move forward and improve. Clemens is looking as lost as the rookie with 4 years to work on this.
Well last night was a whole different situation. You had 2 starting OL out and the Ravens were walking through like it was an Asian business on April 26th 1992 in Compton. He made some ridiculous mistakes, but so did KC, really. And KC only really did anything when the scrubs were in. Even when KC did something it was far from impressive. So if both are equal, and I think they are, you go with the future. edited for speeling
Let me add, a lot of this falls back on Schotty and his stupid shifts and fancy BS that results in nothing. The coaches say Sanchez has a pretty strong grasp with the exception of all the movement in the backfield. is all that movement really necessary? yes you do like to do it sometimes, but Schotty turns it in a requisite. Last night told me, we're not playoff bound this year...preseason or not. Not in this division. So, the only logical conclusion is to put Sanchez in and go run heavy. Which oddly enough is the plan anyway.
I think we're going to need a Schottenmeter to judge Schotty throughout the season. It's only preseason right now, but I had a bad taste in my mouth last night. Rumors of Mangini handcuffing him were a nice way to try and forget about the awful offensive play calling at the end of the season. I'm worried they may not be true. Definitely something to keep an eye on.
I just looked up Matt Ryan's 2008 preseason and found some interesting #s. Obviously I didn't see any of the games and sometimes #s don't tell the story but let's compare for fun: Ryan preseason 2008: good 1st game: 9-15, 113 yds, 1 TD against Jax bad 2nd game: 8-16, 62 yds, 1 INT against Indy(his INT was returned for a TD as well) Good 3rd game: 15-21, 102 yds, 1 TD bad 4th game: 2-7, 17 yds Sanchez had a good 1st game and bad 2nd game w/ an INT returned for a TD.
Sanchez looked scared too death yesterday. He just looked confused, and like a deer in head lights. He just doesn't seem ready to me. Kellen didn't looked good either.
Yeah I'm not so sure about Schotty at this point. He's been here for a few years and the jury is still out on him. I don't really think that's a positive thing.
I had thought that Faneca and Woody both were out.. BTW, you might want to get that speeling thing looked at. I hear it can be contagious..
This is exactly what I'm talking about, and that's the scenario you want to avoid. There's no harm in letting Clemens start the season and letting Sanchez see real speed regular season games from the side before throwing him in. That's usually how it is done. When you put Sanchez in you want to do it permanently, like the Gants did with Eli. you don't want to watch a season go down the tubes and be faced with the prospect of benching him or hearing calls for him to be benched. Let Clemens take that bullet if it's there to be taken. Just my thought, if Sanchez is named the starter so be it, more power to him.
Jets | Faneca practices Saturday, will not play Monday Sat, 22 Aug 2009 15:11:04 -0700 Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Jets OG Alan Faneca (finger) participated in practice Saturday, Aug. 22, but will not play in the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 24.
He had only played one series in his life, of course he isn't "ready". He looked like a guy seeing his first action against a great D, a fired up crowd and on MNF. If he was scared he wouldn't have composed himself enough to throw a TD before coming out. If you think about it, Jet fans are kind of spoiled with QBs. We've had over 10 years of veteran QBs with all kinds of poise and experience, except for the few games Clemens and Bollinger played. We had Favre last year with 18 years under his belt, Chad and Vinny before him. Even when Chad first came in it was his third year in the league.
