I said I didn't see him as a player back then, and I sure stick to that now

As long as the JETS are drafting players like that and the Pats drafting players like Mayo, it's clear there will be a class difference :shit:

I don't think we should cut him. I don't even think we can without crippling the cap with the accelerated hit that would come with cutting him. But so far I have seen exactly jack shit that justifies naming him the starter in week 1.

Unfortunately I don't see any other option other then giving him a shot. I'm sure we will see a combination of him, Westerman & Murrell until one of them earns the chance to get the majority of snaps. Right now we don't have many proven options to fill Paces big shoes for 4 games. He really fucked the team over with his suspension.

Maybe the Jets should just put Gholston at right end in the 4-3 sets and let him sit otherwise? He really does not look like he has much of a clue at linebacker.

i'm convinced he was never truly taught he craft, and was told to go run at the QB in college because he could run over college tackles with ease.

he doesn't know how to play professional football, no one taught him.

Doesn't look like he has much of a clue about any position we line him up at. I didn't like the pick then and now its haunting us you look at his film and see production without a sense of urgency little to no explosiveness. I wished we had moved down and took Dominique Rogers Cromartie and solified the secondary a year ago.

The sad part is, I watched him closely in 4-3 sets last night and he doesn't look any better in that formation.

Exactly, I thought he played end in the 4-3 yesterday more than OLB in a 3-4. I didn't notice a difference.

Gholston has no passion for the game. He looks bored all the time. I remember seeing somewhere a quote that went a little something like this :"Why should I celebrate after a tackle or sack? It's just a waste of time. It does nothing to me".

Come on, how unmotivated can you be.

I think we should trade him back to Ohio State for a player to be named later.

It's almost impossible to teach instinct to a guy at the Pro level. Either he's got it or he doesn't and Gholston has some of the poorest football instincts you'll ever see. His physical freakishness really let him excel at every level but that alone won't get you by in the NFL without good football instincts.

he seems lost. i'm hoping ( like the kind of hoping that maybe the tooth fairy will give me a c-note type of hoping ) that with time and repitition he will get accustomed to a new role... but i just have this feeling that, as others have mentioned, he simply used his size to bowl over players that couldn't compete with that. in this league, that tactic doesn't really work.

I still remember listening to him after his name was called in the draft, and he found his way over to the local reporter. I fully wanted and expected to hear him come out with something that would "wow" the masses, and instead was so quiet and demure you'd think that he was trying his best to keep quiet.

We all wanted to hear something like "Now we can go after the Patriots and hit them with everything we've got- I'm looking to be a big part of that charge." and instead hear something along the lines of "It's cool, it's a good thing."

    P*ssy....

Yeah I would've felt a hell of a lot better about drafting him if he came out and said "Can't nobody block me"

I have to revise this after something I read. If 2010 is an uncapped year, we can cut him without any issues.

I think if we put Woodhead at LB instead of Gholston he would be more productive.

well it appears you can put VG with the other two first round "busts" - robertson and thomas...

that gives the jets 3 1st round whiffs since 2002 on defense - and we have gaul to bitch about depth around here.

i was on the VG wagon with mangini and tanny but it is clear now that he will be a situational rushbacker at best and maybe ring up a sack or 2 in a key spot. unless something magically clicks we are gonna have to bite the cap hit eventually.

we hit the jackpot with revis but 1 of 4 successful picks is not going to give you a top 5 defense so we still need an infusion of 1st round talent here for ryan to mold.

Other than Mangold, our recent OSU draftees have been putrid. Gholston, Nugent, and the boar hunter come to mind.

    Awful. just awful...

There has to be a 4-3 team out there that values him. I know no one is going to think he could be a success as an OLB but maybe someone thinks he can still play DE.
