if they really think this is a win now team...then they should make a play for brandon marshall...as much as i like JC..hes not an elite WR...when we are in 3rd and 12 +...a 2 yard desperation throw to leon washington isnt going to help everytime..we are prob going to use a 1st on a wr next year anyway...then we have to wait for him to develope...marshall is in his prime and could make sanchez rookie year alot easier...thoughts?

We won't use a #1 pick on a WR next year... not if Ryan has any voice in the decision
I would be more than willing to give our 2 away though...

its bad enough that we've lost our best OLB for a quarter of the season and the depth is nil on this team, now we want to throw away draft picks for a head case for the outside chance of just making the playoffs?

how about instead of winning this one year, we keep building so that this team overtakes the division due to depth and strength. We have the QB, let's build the rest of the team around him, before we start complaining about the fact that there are no draft picks to strengthen the team.

    win now is a farce.

The problem is we have a team with some talent so the future looks bright... but we need someone young and talented at the DL and OL... our starters in those positions are getting up in age (except Mangold and D'Brick).

We are a win now team if we look at our OL and DL but the rest of the team still has to grow (especially QB and WR). Let's hope by the time our team is ready we won't have to start from scratch rebuilding our lines!

I know it's waaay too early to talk about the draft but if next season between FA and the first 3 rounds of the draft we get:
a dependable WR, a starting DE, a talented NT and a young but promising RT we are set for a monster season in 2010 (barring injuries)... for now we'll have to live through this year evaluating the talent we have on the team, developing our new QB and buying into Ryan's mentality/system...

Rex Ryan should work hard to get Gholston a sack in the Giants game. He really needs to build some confidence.

Nobody thinks this is a win now team. The NYJ have a generally young roster with a new coaching staff, and are expected to be competitive but not contend this season. Progress from this to next season is expected.

Getting Marshall isn't just "win now"...it's for the future too, he is only 25.

i totally agree. i keep hearing all the "we cant compete this year" crap. Do you remember Mangini's 1st year as coach? Would you agree that our talent level this year is better then 2006? There is no question this years team is more talented then that team.

I think it's all about the QB. If Sanchez is decent enough to not ruin the team(ala Favre the last 4 games of last season) then we can compete. If Chad Pennington was on this team I bet people would think they can compete.

Our D has a chance to be special. We have a good o-line and a good running game. Why can't this team be good? I don't quite see 12-4 but 10-6 is what I predict.

I'm sorry but i can't go into a brand new season thinking we are a 5-6 win team and their is no way we can compete for a playoff spot.

The big issue with Marshall is the 3 game suspension he served for violating the personal conduct policy. This is really the reason why teams are hesitant to trade for him and give him a new contract. One screw up and he is gone for a while. I don't think the draft picks are really the thing that keep teams from making this trade because of his skill level and production. I think the Jets will determine if they want to make this move based on David Clowney. If he can give the Jets decent production at the second receiver spot I think they will back off. Also where the Broncos and Jets are in week 6 will have an impact.

Look at our 2006 schedule and look at this year's schedule. We have one of the hardest schedule's in football, with a rookie QB, and a weak WR core. I'd love to this be our year, but I just can't see it happening. Our defense looks pretty strong on paper, but Jenkins will have to stay healthy this year, Gholston will have to step up, and with Ellis and Pace serving suspensions, we may struggle. Just look at how we did on 3rd down against the Ravens offense (which is nothing stellar). And Sanchez probably won't hit his stride till midseason, which is perfectly fine, he has to learn and make a few mistakes first. I trust our running game and offensive line will have some success, but if we have no real WR threat, our play calling may get very predictable really quick.

It's a win now team 50% of the time which is why we look like an 8 and 8 team... but hey i've been surprised before. Chasing the "win now" moniker oftentimes leads to complete meltdowns, because teams start ignoring the draft and building teams of free agent, big money acquisitions. See Dan Snyder of the Redskins for a prime example.

They need to stop the bleeding, focus on the draft and keep building this team in the right direction. That means drafting a receiver next year and not trading for brandon marshall and blowing our chances at a good player in next year's draft.
