I watched the draft in April and felt ill when I saw that the Jets had traded up to #5 to take Sanchez. He seemed like a work in progress, someone who would take a couple years to develop. I felt a little less ill when I saw how Mr T had fleeced Mangina. Now after watching Sanchez progress during pre-season I'm happy to say that he's proven me wrong. He has a nice feel for the game, is at ease in the pocket, and shows exceptional touch on his throws. I felt the same way when the Jets traded up for Revis and Harris. Maybe I should just learn to trust Mr T's instincts during the draft (sans Gholston).
You can blame Mangini for Vernon-factor... Glauber in Newsday today made a point of saying how it was Mangini's power play in the war room that led to Gholston pick. "Baldinger doesn't think much will change, leaving the Jets to lament the fact that Eric Mangini got his way in the draft room by overruling the scouts and fighting for Gholston on draft day. "That move should go on the tombstone of Eric Mangini," Baldinger said." -Newsday, Glauber
I feel a strong urge to punch those two in the face. Not because of what they think, just because their faces have that effect on me. The over dramatic douche that looks like a Dawson's Creek extra wannabe and the crinkle lipped bobble-headed fucktard standing next to him. Elbow to the top of the head would not be uncalled for. Edit: the Douchin' Creek fuck needs a Lisa Loeb sound track added to his "not happy" statement. Dick.
IMO If the coverage wasn't blown he would have thrown the ball away. On that play he was watching the reciever and could have seen if the man coverage was not blown. But reguardless, I find myself very optimistic about Sanchez. Which scares me. He has shown all the things that I want to see in a QB but I have this bell ringing in the back of my head reminding me that this is only the preseason and everything is about to change. He is a rookie and still will have bumps in the road. So far I like what I see.
Mangini gave us Sanchez. I'm willing to let bygones be bygones. With a little luck Sanchez will be the most important addition to the Jets since Joe Willie.
It's funny, I thought week 1 and all of the pre-pre-season adoration made him too comfortable, which is why he looked so deer-in-headlightish against the Ravens. And I am trying to get over my irrational USC hatred and look at the kid objectively. It's his first year, he wont do what Ryan did, or Flacco, but I do have hopes that by year 2 or 3, if he keeps his head in the game, he will be really good.
Stop comparing Flacco to Sanchez. Also please stop acting like Flacco was such an anomoly. Shitty Teams get the highest draft picks. Rookie QBs almost always start with shitty teams. The examples often given of failed rookie seasons: Aikman: The Cowboys were one of the worst teams of all time when they drafted him. Of course he sucked starting as a rookie Elway: He was an exception and was drafted by a shitty team but bitched like a little girl and got himself traded to Denver (who also sucked, winning only 2 games the year before). He didn't break any reccords, but Denver still won more than expected Boomer: Bengals were a losing team before he started. No real dip with him as a rook Peyton: This is my favorite. Evenyone only remebers the good years. The colts were TERRIBLE then that drafted and started him. Of course he struggled. No Peyton 3-13, 1st year Peyton = 3-13, 2nd year peyton = 13-3. Flacco isn't special. He got drafted into a great program. (I don't know why 2007 was a losing season for them, but they always seem like a great team to me year ofter year and have been known for their great defense for a long time) I almost forgot to add. I think we are a great team that is better than last year that TRADED UP to get a great QB. I believe we are going to win a lot of games this year.
This is a typo I think. Peyton Manning's second year the Colts rebounded from 3-13 to go 13-3. I think you're missing something with Flacco. He looks like Terry Bradshaw but without all the chaos at the start of his career. This is because Ozzie Newsome is the best GM in football right now and the Ravens are one of the most talented teams in the NFL. I suspect that if Flacco stays healthy he's going to get a couple of rings before he's done. He's that good. And of course Ozzie is going to make sure he gets all the help he needs. The one thing Ozzie had not done before last year was to take his brilliant talent acquisition team and find a great QB with it. I think that box has been checked now. If the Jets get lucky with injuries you might be right.
It's such an obvious grab for attention. The dude on the right is looking at the screen to make sure he's on TV. Jerkoff.
The trade is impossible not to like. Two journeymen defensive players and a young QB of unknown potential plus a 2nd round pick to turn a mid first round pick into a real franchise QB possibility. That's just an insane steal of a deal. I hate trade-ups and this one was so ridiculously overbalanced in the Jet's favor that I had to like it as soon as I saw the terms.
What was their names? I tried looking up that dudes video blog but no luck. And before you go nuts with it, I know it's not the Douche Brothers.
I watched the highlights again..... if he has time in the pocket, he looks like a 4 year veteran. its sexy.
