Aside from Super Bowl wins, the closest thing I have seen to a smile on Belichick's face happens at a press conference after he beats the Jets. When he loses to them - it's the same drastic reaction on the polar opposite. He hates this team. I can't wait to beat them again.
I think Sanchez seeking out Beli was intended as a taunt as the OP suggests...at least not from Sancho's POV. Now I could see Rex sending him out there for that purpose, but the look on his face following Beli's douchebaggery looked likethat of genuine disappointment. As far as I know, Beli dicked us big time following Parcells retirement. I know he warned Mangini against coming to this organization in particular. Does anyone know if he really did get his Cheerios pissed in while he was here? The way he acts towards us implies something concrete happened, otherwise he really is the biggest douche in the universe.
I heard 1 Pat fan saying the reason for the dickhead handshake move was in response to Ryan sending out 3 ex-Patriots for the coin toss. And that he considered that to be the biggest dickhead move.
BB on Patriots Monday on WEEI... ? "I saw Mark [Sanchez] and Rex [Ryan] after the game. And then in the tunnel after the game was over, before we got on the bus, I talked to both of them." ? [Regarding their brief handshake] "With Rex, there were a lot of cameras there and everything, and they were all jumping up and down and celebrating ? as we would have been if we had won. But no, I saw him after the game in the tunnel." allthingsbillbelichick.com (Still can't post links apparently, sorry for the cut-and-paste.) So, instead of doing it on TV, he preferred to speak to both Ryan and Sanchez in the tunnel on the way out. And Abyzmul - no offense man, but your observation about BB smiling only after Super Bowl wins and victories over the Jets is pretty ridiculously self-absorbed. BB hates the Jets, yes, because he didn't want to be Parcells' lackey there. And yes, the Jets have taken two straight, and going back to the '06 mud game they've had success against him lately. Still, they haven't been "in the way" all that often over the years, and you don't consider an inferior opponent to be a hated rival. Hard to hate someone who you pity. Granted, that's changed recently, and I give Ryan and the Jets credit for being one of the more dominant teams through two weeks.
meh, I'd give him a pass if that were true, but he could have at least said "nice game" when the kid was respectful enough him out. I don't hold with fake pageantry, but a little common decency isn't too much to expect. Thank you for making a stab at why Beli really hated us, but considering he wasn't forced to come here, nor coerced into the contract he breached AFAIK, that really isn't a good reason to be upset. The only acceptable excuse for his past behavior and comments would be if Leon threatened to blackball him if he didn't sign on to be HC. I'm not saying it didn't happen, just that I'd like to see some inkling of truth to the hunch.
His mouth is shut as if Rexy just came in his mouth, and Belichicken is finding it hard to swallow...It must be pretty warm and sour, BeliFuckMyFaceChick?
I don't think it had anything to do with Hess... I think it was 100% Parcells. If you read BB's book ("Education of a Coach" by David Halberstam), his last years with Parcells were really bad. He didn't want to be a "puppet" head coach with Parcells still calling all the shots from the front office. The instability (at the time) with Jets ownership was also part of the reason.
I always thought is was because he was asked before the Tuna. Then the Tuna wiggled his way into the Jets coaching job
So his beef should be with the Tuna, not the team. I can see how any coach worth his salt wouldn't want to be someone else's bitch-boy. His reasons for leaving are pretty unassailable, not that I am excusing his breaking his word, but he should now be hating on the phins as thats where the object of his animosity currently resides...though there should at least be some professional respect for the man that introduced him to the league, without whom he would not be where he is. As the facts stand now, he still comes off as an A-1 douchebag. He continues to hate an organization that he f'd over, whose only sin towards him was having its owner die. So he's delusional on top of it.
Well, that's kind of what I was saying. I don't think he circles the games against the Jets and rubs his hands together or anything. Especially not now, LOL! (Little self-depricating humor there.) I think he hates Cleveland a lot more. He was really screwed over there.
I think Parcells brought him in as his successor, telling him he'd retire in two or three years. But then he changed his mind and was going to be the GM above Belichick. Belichick realized he'd never get out from under the shadow that way. Hence the weird press conference and depature from NY...
