I'm not saying he's the "savior" to our run game problems or anything like that...But I think it's time to give Shonn Green some carries. There's alot of talk about the "Ground and pound" game...and wearing down teams for the 4th qtr...where there should be some wide open running lanes. But here's the problem: Other than Woody and possibly Mangold, this is not an overpowering blow you off the ball type of OL. It's a highly athletic, technically sound OL that gets to the second level quickly, and is capable of alot of pulls/traps. Against 50% of the NFL....The ground and pound game works fine w/ this type of personell. However...the elite run defenses are not intimidated by it and don't really wear down all that much. You need a running back that can help the cause and punish some of these defenders on his own. Neither Jones or Washington are that guy. I believe Greene can be. Put him for 10 plays mixed in w/ TJ and Leon..let him push the pile and wear down some of these Linebackers. Perhaps than in the 4th qtr things really WILL loosen up and we'll see more big plays in the running game. Just my 2 cents.
I'd be happy if it were 1.5 because yesterday it was only 1.43 on 14 carries. No one can say that he didn't get enough touches. If you can't "warm up" after 10 or so, something is wrong. I like Jones. He's a tough, punishing runner and he holds onto the ball. I just think the inevitable is happening... you're watching an older RB get older and slower. Slower at making the split-second decisions at choosing the right lanes and then slower at executing. Those split seconds account for the difference between 1.43 and 3.5. There's no question Ryan is looking at the O-line but I'll bet my season tickets he's looking at TJ also.
1. Jones is another year older. 2. Faneca and Woody are also another year older. 3. Rookie QB 4. We've played 3 respectable run Ds. That being said, Leon should be getting more carries and I won't mind when Jones is gone.
One major reason Leon had a better YPC than Jones yesterday is that he got a lot of carries in 2nd and 3rd and long situations where the defense had pass defense personnel in the game. TJ got almost all of the obvious run situations where the Titans were in fact stacking the box. Leon got all of the favorable situations, which he should because of his skill set. It's not as straight forward as looking at the YPC and saying TJ sucks, look at Leons YPC.
You asked for a TJ supporter, "present!". You talk about patience and you post a thread which exemplifies inpatience. We've played 2 good run defenses plus teams are playing us w/ 8 man fronts forcing our rookie QB to beat them. TJ already has one 100 yard game this season and I expect another one against the Saints. Despite how bad it looked yesterday, we actually managed the most rushing yards against Tennesse this season. They are that good against the run. Also, teams to not trade for 30 year old running backs. TJ will be supplanted as the primary back at some point, probably sooner than later, but expecting to get anything substantial back for him is as ridiculous as this thread.
ummm....almost all of washingtons big runs come from gimmick plays and runs to the outside. they use jones 95% of the time on plays up the middle, and 90% of the time those calls are made on first down. our oline hasn't been playing that well so far. watch the game, the d is in the back field when jones gets the ball more times then not. as for the op, i still support Jones, i support all the players on this team including Gholston. The need for people to bash players on this board is fucking retarded. there was already a thread on this issue that green posted, but why not, lets post some more. you should post a Clemens thread next, i do not think he is holding the clip board properly, he could drop it at any moment. we're 3-0, shut the fuck up and enjoy it.
There's an awful lot to be said for this argument, which is always why stats are sometimes deceiving. That being said, I'd like Ryan to do a little experimenting with Greene in the mix and let him and Jones rotate on those obvious, "stackable prone" plays, and THEN we'll be able to see if there's a difference between TJ and SG. There's nothing to lose at this point. It can't get much worse than 1.43 YPC. And it's not like this is one game we're looking at. I'd be interested to know what TJs YPC have been over the first 3 games (take away the several breakaways). I'll bet he's not averaging more than 2.5 YPC for all 3 games. Like I said, I'd almost like to put Richardson in there is Greene is not healthy enough to go.
yeah you're an idiot. i wonder what sanchezs passer rating is if you take away the 2 ints. i wonder what jones rushing average is if you take away the runs for less than 3 yrds. i wonder how useful your posts would be if we took away your stupidity.
It's not really as straight forward as you're trying to portray it either. I agree that just looking at box stats it pretty stupid to judge the performance of a back, because it can be done both ways. But the fact is that TJ is not fighting for yardage, and the overall performance of our offense is suffering for it. What ended in a tiptoe dance for a 1 yard loss on first down 3 separate times yesterday could have easily been a fight for a yard or 2 and a better situation on second and 8. TJ did this in 2008 for a few games and our offense suffered then, too. He ended up bringing his game in week 4 or 5 and started really surprising me. Right now, Thomas Jones is playing uninspired football.
No one's bashing any players and this is nothing more than a discussion with people expressing their opinions, to which they're entitled. So why don't you just relax and stop telling people to "shut the fuck up?"
I'm not saying TJ is playing great or good or anything. All I'm saying is that the situations he's getting are for the most part less favorable then Leon. I am going to get the torrent tonight and look at all of his carries to get a better idea.
well then leave stupid arguments like "if we take away this what would it be" it doesn't work that way. and for you to be ignorant enough to think that there isn't bashing going on is laughable. people are acting like we're 0-3
Stupidity is resorting to adolescent namecalling and poster bashing. Why don't you engage in useful contribution instead of attacking peoples' opinions? Better yet, you don't have to read my posts and avaoid it altogether, unless, of course, you're a trolling, juvenile troublemaker.
Well, we've played 2. Look to what Jacksonville and Tenn did to houston on the ground. They ripped them apart. Jones and the Jets were awful on that ground against them untill a couple of big late runs. Jones has been very ineffictive. He is a decent one cut runner, but right now has no cut back lanes. He is not a push pile type of strong nosed guy. I would say we are seeing the begin of a big drop off for a guy that was an average back who put up good numbers with very good O-lines in Chicago and last year with the Jets.
Yeah, I'm going to break the ground game down on Wednesday and see what's going on with the run blocking. I had meant to do it for the Pats game but I started watching and couldn't help but just start watching it as a fan again. This week I will be able to be objective. I know the run blocking hasn't been firing on all cylinders, but it's not just the blocking from what I saw yesterday.
lol, yes i'm trolling. you caught me. i'm not the only one who thinks that taking away plays to strenghten your argument is stupid.
I'm removing nothing. You're not only a rude attack artist but now you're here to tell people how to post and what to say? You're going to give me orders to post a certain way and present my arguments in a fashion in which you approve, and that I shouldn't say certain things that you disagree with? I thought we are here to post our opinions, not attack other posters. I'll say what I want and when I want, if that meets with your approval, of course. Seriously man, get a grip.
