it's not just the blocking, it's a combination of blocking, playcalling and tj. but he hasn't had a fair chance considering 90% of his runs have been called on first down, with the team stacking the box. we let sanchez air it out one time yesterday on first down and it turned into a 40 something yard pass to cotchery because there was 8 in the box.
I think I agree on this one .... Because as bad as TJ looks, he still has more yards than LW this season. TJ has 181 yds an avg of 3.77 ypc and LW has 164 yds with a 4.00 ypc avg. On the outside the ypc average isn't "bad" for either player, but they seem to have come on a few long runs and a whole load of VERY short runs .... Don't have the answer as to why, or how to "fix" it, but as long as we keep putting up "W"'s, I'll be happy with it ...
that's fine, im just trying to help you out. using the argument of "if you take away his big run then....." is a stupid tactic. 90% of the board knows it is. sorry if you're sensitive, i'll try to be nicer to you.
He's been squeaking his runs in later in the game this year. I'm not sure what that means..our OL has better cardio than DLs we've faced?
When Jones runs up the middle, it seems that whenever there is a defender in front of him, he just tried to fall forward and avoid getting hit. He basically makes the tackle for the defender. I've watched each game (besides yesterday's) a few times and this popped out at me as I watched him run.
Hehe, yeah, and I remember someone on this board saying that 80% of statistics in football arguments are made up on the spot. Sanchez is definitely being given a lot of single coverage on his receivers, with the exception being made probably for Keller. I saw Keller being doubled on at least 2 occasions yesterday. But I didn't see the box as stacked as you are trying to portray it. Like I said, I'll break it down on Wednesday and if I truly see 8 in the box all day long, you'll certainly get credit for your observations.
Yes, Rex just loves playing "uninspired" guys especially the ones that give motivated speeches at halftime against our arch-rivals. Come on fellows, I hope we all have watched football long enough to know that this is the nature of the NFL running game. You feast on the sub par rushing defenses and against the tougher defenses you hope that you can stick with the running game long enough to keep them honest for play action and pound out the occasional long run. Not saying TJ is anywhere the caliber of RB that AP is but if Jones' long run wasn't negated his numbers wouldn't have been too different yesterday. AP 19 for 85 with one run for 35. We ran the ball terribly but still managed the most yeards against Tennessee this season. That's just how it is. They have thus far the best rushing defense in the league. Now if we struggle to run against the Saints, then there may be some legitimate cause for some concern. Until then, relax.
Fine. Why not express your opinion then and not take it to such a caustic personal level? Are you not capable of engaging in reasonable discussion without resorting to that? I don't know who you are or what your axe to grind is, but I've never had a discussion with you before and I know for a fact that I've never talked to you the way you're attacking me, so get off it. Express your opinion and leave it at that, but I don't deserve the juvenile nonsense. Or better yet, don't read my opinions if they annoy you.
all day long? no. on first down, yes. we've been some what predicable in our play calling in the first half of all 3 games. 1st down run, tj up the middle has been called quite frequently so far, yesterday was no exception.
haha, it's not personal. i do not know or care about you enough for it to be personal. if my posts seem too agressive for you blame it on the military. i said sorry already and i meant it. what else do u want, a fucking cookie?
i am very concerned about tj and the running game right now. i still haven't entered paic mode yet. tj had a very disappointing first half of the year last year too. he really exploded after the bye week to have such a great year. i don't know if the o-line needs more time to get in a goove, or if sanchez still needs to earn some respect to keep the other teams from keying on the run. at some point teams will have to realize that while sanchez isn't throwing the ball all over the yard he is doing enough to allow the jets to win. if his growth as a qb can start to get teams to stop stacking the box i think we could see a similar strong second half for tj. as much as people like to give him shit for nut running hard whenever he gets a little space a see a nice burst from him still. the main problem has been that he has only had room about 5 times this whole season.
Ahhhhh here we go. The guy that was vehemently defending Jones, stating nothing is wrong with his run production, needs to look at the tape to confirm. Although I said it in another thread, I give TJ a pass against the Titans. The Jets didn't gameplan for the run and the Titans have an excellent run D.
really? he said "take away the several break aways" which to me meant the 2 big runs he had against the texans. perhaps breakaways meant the runs for losses against the titans. if that was the case i retract my statement.
TJ is the same back he was last year. There's a reason we ran empty backfields on third and short last year. There's a reason we moved up to draft Greene and there's a reason TJ got huge chunks of yards last year out of the spread with Brett Favre at QB. TJ is not a clasic short yardage banger. He gets what's there and rarely anything more. That said he is very good at picking up the blitz and he can take a couple of hundred carries a year the only proven back on our team right now that can.
So what are you saying? I know for a fact the Texans had 8 and 9 in the box for most of the game. NE had 8 in the box a lot of the time too. Please show me where I've ever said TJ is doing awesome or even good. Where you get the vehemently defending Jones from is beyond me. I started a thread during the off season that it was a good time to trade Jones - long before it was a common idea. Like I said, I'll look at the game again tonight and tell you what I see.
Apology accepted. But I'll certainly never give you the out to "blame it on the military." I've been in the military and have never once blamed a damned thing on my experiences there. You either deal with your inner aggression or you don't, but you really need to stop putting the blame anywhere else other than your own head.
I like how you completely ignored the brunt of my post and cherry-picked the statement that you got annoyed with. I'm completely relaxed, because we just won our third game in a row. But that's not going to make me stop noticing the areas in which our team is lacking. I saw the same stuff early in last season that I am seeing now, and telling me to 'relax' isn't going to make me stop wanting this team to dominate in all aspects of the game. Rex can give all of the inspirational speeches he wants to give, but it's human nature for not all players to get fired up for it. I am not seeing from Thomas Jones what I have seen at his best, you can bet that I'm going to comment on it. I don't need to relax, you need to wake up and look at things objectively.
