lol I can imagine the first day of practice Chad, talking to offense: All you need to remember are the 5 D's of offense, Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge. Sanchez: But coach we have Dustin Keller who can torch most LB's and a bunch of safetys Chad: Speaking of which, Dustin, how would you like to become more of an inline blocker..and Sanchez you need a bitchy Wide receiver to be your friend, I had Coles getting my back, and fucking me in the ass when I was with the Jets. Any volunteers?
Hey Chad, what is your coaching experience? Uhmm.. zero, none, nada, nothing, zip... Oh, well that's cool, you wanna be our Offensive Coordinator anyway? We feel that it would just be peachy!! WTF?!
Someday I think Pennington will be a good coach at least in some aspect. But you don't walk thru the door as an OC.
I mentioned this last night actually. Seriously, if Mangini got canned and had nowhere else to go I'd perhaps bring him in as a scout because let's face it. After he gets fired he is finished as a head coach and possibly a DC
So narrow minded. How do you evaluate an OC? I mean what is the chain of command. Oh wait, maybe we can get a line coach, or a QB coach, or a WR coach, or a.... What would any candidate have over Pennington? Just because he can't be aggressive physically, doesn't mean he isn't aggressive minded. I am not saying he could jump right into a OC position, but I do know he is smart enough. Oh, the no one has ever done it before theory. There has never been a 3-0 rookie starter either. Shit, I forgot Sanchez is a rookie, and we are 3-0. Keep thinking within the parameters of everyday thinking.
Matt Cavanaugh!!! - Don't hear anyone giving him credit for Sanchez development - alneit 3 games. - but - Callahan wouldn't be bad at all.
But Sanchez has been a successful QB in college so that isn't exactly an accurate comparison. Nobody thinks Pennington is stupid by any means. This is a hypothetical situation and if it did come to reality we have people with coaching experience that have paid their dues. Pennington would need to pay them before earning that title.
I happen to think that Chad is going to be a damn good coach someday. But OC in 2010? You're calling someone else narrow-minded? Or was this thread actually just a joke? Chad will not be ready to run an offense for years.
There's a chain of command and there are people who have paid their dues and they deserve to go into outer space before Pennington. Nobody thinks he's stupid by any means but he needs to pay his due.
I would like him to become our QB coach in the near future... Schotty will be gone in two years (after 2010) and I think our current QB coach will be the new OC. At that point a spot will be open in our coaching staff... and I don't think Pennington will play much longer.
the thread title was to get people to read the thread. It was a hypothetical, but also thinking outloud. Calling it impossible is most definately narrow minded. Someone wrote that coaches have paid there dues and deserve the shot. What dues? They are being paid to do a job, and are owed the chance to be moved up? Does that mean a mail clerk in a fortune 500 company could work his way to CEO? Yes, they can, but not likely. So if that is true, could that same fortune 500 team hire someone off the street to be the CEO. Yes, and much more likely than a mail clerk. Who is the coach on the field? Who is the leader in the Locker Room? Who takes the blame for a stagnant offense? Who changes plays on the fly on the line? Who reads the blitzes, and reacts to them? Shall I go on. What qualities does a QB coach, or other have over a seasoned QB. Also, a smarter than most QB.
