billymadisonspeech.txt Every time I think there couldn't possibly be a more absurd post on this forum, someone ups the ante. Where do these people come from?
I really don't understand why some people just have this huge of a hard-on for the guy. He was a Jet. Great. He gave people good memories. Great. I don't see people calling for Vinny T. or Curtis Martin or Chrebet to come coach our skill positions. He'll always be a Jet in our memories, but...just let it go people. I'm sure there are more qualified skill positions coaches out there with more impressive resumes.
Callahan would be the first one I would offer the job to. He knows what hes doing, and continuity would be key in the development of Sanchez. That being said, I can't see Schotty walking away just yet.
He would need to retire first. Last I heard, he's paying close attention to tonight's game. :coughelhome:cough:
i think its because of the hear and grit and all that crap that we hear about so much combined with all of those playoff appearances earlier in this decade. it makes him a small hero.
It's possible, and I bet he'll be interviewed, but this isn't going to be a top half of the NFL offense, and he's never had one. I don't think he gets a job, especially with so many free agent coaches with experience who might want to get back in.
Calling him the OC next year is stupid. Even if Pennington hangs it up tomorrow and focuses on a career in coaching, it will still be a few years before he's an OC. He probably won't even start as a QB coach.
I honestly wouldn't want him anywhere near our QB's. I don't want a pussified QB who is scared to throw down field. Fuck that.
I could see Penny trying to be a QB coach first before moving on to an OC role. Honestly, now that I think about, I the traits you listed would make him be a pretty good QB coach.
Me neither. But some people here take that shit to heart. Like you just cussed out their own father or some shit. Cause god-forbid u don't want a war-hero like Chad.
Don't get me wrong, I think Pennington has all the intelligence in the world to get into coaching. But, why in the world would u take a guy that has never coached before in his life and put him at one of the most important coaching positions on a football team. Without learning all it takes to be an offensive coordinator, ah christ, let me stop myself, y am I even trying to get into this?
I don't have a hard on for the guy. Actually, I can't stand him as a player. Well after the first shoulder surgery, anyway. The kids knowledge is far above most coaches. 2 questions. Has there ever been instances in any field, or industry, where the student was smarter than the teacher. If the question was replaced by Peyton Manning, would that change the response to this thread. Knowledge is knowledge and it doesn't matter what path is taken to achieve the knowledge.
You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you don't know how to teach others, you're never gonna get anywhere. Do you have any proof that Chad has taught others how to be better players? Bollinger? Clemens? Henne?
What do you mean by coaching? Are you saying that Pennington hasn't coached some players he was leading? Do you just have to have a title to be a coach? Do you need to be paid to coach to be a coach? Could CP diagnose a QB's technique? Could CP diagnose a WR techniqe? Could CP diagnose a RB's technique? FB's, OT's, OG's, C's, TE's. Better question for a OC is could he find a way to utilize the talent he has to work with. I say yes he could. Likely to ever happen, absolutely not. What is needed to be a OC? you say you need to learn all it takes. Well what is there to an offense that you don't think one of the smartest men in the game hasn't learned? This question was a hypothetical, and thinking outload. I am not saying that he is ready, or that he would even want to. I do however believe that if anyone was able to pull it off he is one of the very few that could.
Also, as a OC you are the coordinator of the coaches. The position coaches actually do the teaching. Mostly.
*Sigh* Ok, no. I do not have any proof. And apparently, neither do you. But you know what let's make him OC. He should be a HC by the following year cause he's so knowledgeable. You should be a GM.
Maybe some day but not yet. You don't just retire then step straight into a OC role....he'd have to coach QBs somewhere, become an offensive assistant, etc. Who knows if he will even stay in football when he finally calls it quits. the guy is bright, he'll have many options that don't require him to work the hours an OC does.
