It looked like Greene was horse collard in the play he was hurt. Maybe the defender got all jersey, IDK, but Greene went down in the same fashion you would from a horse collar. Hopefully he is ok because I love the way he runs (with actual power) unlike Thomas "shoe string tackle" Jones
I stand by Jones all the way. He is our best option in the backfield. We should try to mix it up a bit, Greene was one of the positive things about yesterday. However anyone who thinks Jones shouldn't be getting the bulk of the carries is a fucking idiot.
Greene surprised me yesterday, he the the holes fast and hard and carried tacklers with him on his way down. If he wasn't built out of peanut brittle we might have something here.
Judging a players effectiveness based on one play if foolish. If that were the Case David Tyree and Clowney would be all pros in this league. Good for the rest of the world that one play does not define a player. Jones is falling off quickly. The TD run was a good one and one of the very, very few lately. Jones is quickly becomming a guy who goes down on first contact and is very slow hitting the hole. If he is our main back going into next season I will see it as a problem.
I hate the way TJ runs... he goes to the LOS at medium/full speed... STOPS to look if there are any holes... and then attacks one. The one play out of ten in which he actually finds a hole he can get a good gain because he is elusive... but in the other 9 out of 10 plays he gets killed by the DL and doesn't even gain a friggin yard. The only good thing about him is that he is a workhorse and he can play 25 carries without getting tired... but that's like saying I'm taking a car with lots of Miles per gallon instead of a Ferrari for a race. there is no way the Ferrari loses... PS to Somenoob... he gets the TD because every time we are in the red zone Schotty calls running plays with TJ on the field. How many times did we try to run it from inside the redzone with Leon or Greene? All the TD TJ made this year could have been made by many RB in the league not considered elite (except maybe one in Houston)... the only thing that counts when evaluating a "supposedly" every down back is YPC and TJ sucks bad this season in this statistic.
So whoever scores the TD is the best? That's stupid logic. He looked better yesterday than he has recently but he is dancing too much insetad of picking a direction to run and going there. Alot of it is on the O-line, but Jones is leaving ayrds out there.
Jones is getting all the hate because 10 out of his 13 carries lets say went for 2 yards per run! The other 3 were 8 yard gainers. That is putrid
Anyone who's ever played football can see that Thomas Jones is a big negative for the Jets. He flat-out does not run hard. He hops into holes and falls down if anyone touches him. He turns his back to, or dives at, contact. He's top heavy. He runs into lineman's backs. The only time he has success is when there's a wide open hole and he doesn't get touched, and any player in the league -- or college, for that matter -- could do the same. Didn't it look like a different O-line against the Saints when Shonn Greene was running? That's because he was getting downhill, putting pressure on the defense, and finishing runs. Any backup in the league would serve us better than TJ. Thomas Jones is a down-waster. This is a case of the Emperor's Big Arms. Nobody wants to say it, but TJ's not a good football player (anymore) and should be benched. As soon as Greene gets 100% healthy, Thomas should be done. This isn't negativity. This is an objective analysis of performance and production. Take those gratuitously massive biceps to the nightclub, because they're not doing any good on the field.
That's an excellent post. Jones did kind of turn it on and show more heart yesterday than in the first 3 weeks, after Greene got into the game, but he's just not the type of runner that will have this offense 'grounding and pounding' the way Rex wants them to. With a rookie Qb, we need a guy on the ground that will hurt a safety in the box, fight for a few extra yards and make it 2nd and 2 instead of 2nd and 8 like it usually is with Jones. I almost jumped out of my seat when they said Greene was in the game, and he lit it up for 4 runs that, if they lasted an entire drive, would have been very effective. He hit the hole with authority and put a solid shoulder into defenders. That's the type of running that wears down defenses and opens huge holes for a guy like Leon in change of pace for huge, game-changing plays. We can only hope this kid gets healthy again soon. TJ is in his twilight and he's not a lot of good unless he plays his heart out like he did after week 4 of last season. He's not going to play his heart out because he doesn't want to get injured before he scores one last contract.
This is what i think... TJ is a work horse yes the run the hell out of him... but in the same light you think getting fed 20 times or on avg 14-15 times a game he should at least break a nice 20 yarder here and there... he never does most of the runs that he gets when its a long run is in the 4th quarter everybody is tired.. Not hating on him but we do need another look with Greene as well as Washington.. Greene Faced the same 8 in the box that TJ did and got yards. Not band wagoning Greene but if we have a nice Three Headed attack with TJ and Greene mixing it up and Washington on 3rd downs we could create a nice rotation and keep guys fresh..
My problem with Jones is not the lack of big plays, but the large number of very short gains. There is a huge difference between you options on 2nd and 5 compaired to 2nd and 9. Jones has left in the second and long situation too many times. He lacks momentum hitting the hole and is far too often stopped dead at first contact. Part of the reason for his great durability is the fact that he is not a hard nosed runner.
still think TJ gets a bit of a bum rap...........Greene looked good, but what good is that after 4 carries and an injury? durability is part of being a top level running back. I'd like to see TJ hit the holes, if there are any, with a little more authority...and it does annoy me, like everyone else, when he seems to go down so quickly........but Greene proved already he's not an every down back, yet........I'd like to see more RB by committee approach. Let TJ feel the heat a little and hopefully it'll light a fire under him. ...hate to say it, but if Greene is the featured back, i see him out for the season pretty quickly.
The Jets first eight runs (excluding direct snaps): T.Jones right guard to NYJ 40 for 3 yards T.Jones right guard to NYJ 40 for no gain T.Jones left guard to NO 26 for 3 yards T.Jones left guard to NYJ 20 for no gain S.Greene right tackle to NYJ 29 for 9 yards S.Greene left tackle to NYJ 36 for 7 yards T.Jones right guard to NO 36 for 3 yards S.Greene left tackle to NO 32 for 4 yards Was Greene playing with a different defense? Was he running behind a different O-line? Hang up the jersey TJ, put on a tank top and hit the beach, or the weight room or the weight room on Venice Beach and curl a few more dumbbells.
Yes you are right but he is all we got this season... so i say the solution would be let greene bruise the team up put TJ and him in a rotation with Washington to complement... TJ is just a straight ahead runner at times i dont know if he could see the cut back lanes unless its a gapping hole.
