i can handle the yankees losing. the last time i was ever as pissed as i get when the Jets lose was game 5 of 1995. 14 years ago. The Jets on the other hand...man. What an adventure.
Personally, my expectations coming into the year were that the Jets just wouldn't be that good, but that the Yankees were serious contenders. Right now, as I have all year, I would rather the Yankees win the World Series than the Jets a MNF or even a playoff game.
It's not about how many times I've seen one or the other win. It's about the talent level in comparison to the competition. Top to bottom in the lineup, I don't think any team equals the Yankees. Few teams have the starting 3 we do. Few have the pen depth we do. Very few have the bench depth. None have that whole package except the Yankees. On the other hand, the Jets have a great defense and an above-average offense. There are a number of teams better than the Jets, even if they play defense like they did against the Saints, and offense like last night at the same time. The Jets should make the playoffs this year. The Yankees should win the playoffs this year.
As tough as last night was for us Jets fans, here's something that will cheer up the Yankee/Jet fans.
I missed being able to post the entire ALDS, but it was a great series. A-Rod was so clutch, it brought tears to my eyes. Texiera is the man too. And how about Pettitte with the win, Posada catching him and Rivera with the save in Game 3? Love it!
It's funny because I usually look down upon overreactions when it comes to the Yanks. Partly it's because there are a lot of statistical measures that help you judge where your team is to where it should be, and those will usually bear itself out over the course of 162 freakin games. With football there are no statistics that give you a clear picture of how good you are. Drives me nuts because I can't set my expectations correctly.
It's the Jets. Set them low. Occasionally, you'll be pleasantly surprised only to be heartbroken in the end.
