Personally I think Rex has to do what it takes to win this ballgame. If that means playing Sanchez and running the ball 40 times then that is what we should do. If it means giving Sanchez a simplified gameplan and a short leash then that is what we should do. If Sanchez is not able to make things happen and is turning the ball over then Clemens may deserve the chance to come in and move the offense. We cannot be more concerned with the development of 1 player than we are with the success of the team.
I would keep him on there if he threw 8 INTs, MS ha himself said that he needs to be less emotional and focus more. He is an intelligent young player who has the smarts to deal with this. Hes now tasted both sides to pro football, and we have all seen that he can make the throws early on, maybe he got too confident and started to over-think plays, whatever , hes a rookie and should be treated as such and not the messiah. As we have all discussed TO DEATH, that Bills game the play calling just flat out sucked which didn't help a struggling Sanchez at all. Apparently I one of the few here that likes Schotty, he too is a young coach thats made some mistakes. What I like about Schott Jnr is that hes not afraid to take risks which can work for you, or as we saw last game, not. Sanchez is the face of this Franchise for years to come, benching a player of his calibre will not do him any good at all. IF they did pull him, I would want to see Ainge in there. KC has no future in NY.
Takemehomekerryrhodes will say Pete Carrol was right then when ppl get on his case say it was all a joke
What if we decide to run the ball exclusively and average 1.7 per carry do we bench TJ and Leon? You don't bench the best player on your O. Should Revis and Rhodes been benched after Ginn bitch slapped them and cost us the Miami game?
Do you fire Brian Schottenheimer if Sanchez throws 2 INT's in the first half and Kellen Clemens throws 2 in the second half and the Jets lose to the Raiders? Do you fire Mike Tannenbaum if the Jets line can't keep either QB upright against Seymour and Co? Do you fire Rex Ryan if the Jet's blitz defense doesn't get to Russell and he actually has a good game? I just bring up these points to make the point that the INT's here are not the overall story. The INT's are just a function of a rookie QB operating a complex offense with inadequate resources. Sitting him down because the offense is not functional due to other concerns is not going to make the offense magically functional.
I love how we assume that Clemens will come in and be able to move the offense. After being in this offense for 3 years? guy was not able to outright beat a rookie for the starting job. Sanchez would have to start throwing some blatant interceptions for me to pull him. A lot of those interceptions last week were not that bad and close to being good plays.
COMPLETE BULLSHIT. The offense is not functional because Sanches is taking stupid sacks and throwing too many interceptions. 8 Interceptions in 3 Games is unacceptable in the NFL (or in college or high school for that matter). Sanchez has some of the best resources of any QB in the NFL. His job is to matriculate the ball down the field. If he is unable to do his job then you need to do whatever it takes to give the team the best chance to win the football game. If that means bringing in a replacement QB then that is what you do. If that means staying with Sanchez and calling only running plays then that is what you do. What you don't do is make up fng excuses for him and decide that losing is permissible and excuseable and that its not Sanchez's fault for taking stupid sacks and throwing INTs.
I love how you assume that we are assuming anything regarding Clemens. When you have a QB performing as shitty as Sanchez has over the past 3 weeks its perfectly legitimate and to be expected that you raise the issue of whether somebody else might do a better job with the offense right now.
I disagree with you on this entire post. The reason Sanchez is having trouble is he has no professional receivers playing with him at the moment who have any demonstrated ability to function in this offense. Other than Edwards he has no professional receivers playing with him at all at the moment. Put Kellen Clemens in and the interception train will continue.
Beat me to it. The 2 WRs that hes built up chemistry with... Cotchery - out Stuckey - Traded And to be able to hook so well in the Miami game with Edwards was a damn fine effort. The D lost that game, remember. The Bills game was a train wreck and Sanchez factors into that, but he was not wholly responsible.
I am not on the "bench Sanchez" bandwagon. I am on the Jets need to get a victory bandwagon. If the situation calls or it, wheteher it be INT's, injury, poor attitude, whatever, if the Jets can win with a change in the offensive leadership, it needs to happen. I singled out this post for one reason. Chemistry. Sanchez has only been working with these guys for a couple weeks. The chemistry will develope. Edwards is a big part of that. We will be that much stronger when Cotch gets back. I have mentioned this in a post once before, I would pull Sanchez in fovor of KC, for only 1 reason, lack of control of the offensive schemes. If he cannot make the proper reads and decisions, then maybe the guy with 3 years in the offense and chemistry with 2 of the 3 receivers will have better luck. I am not on the CS, and my OPINION has no bearing on what happens today. I will hope for the best with Sanchez coming out of his funk this week. If the situation calls for it, and KC makes an appearance, lets hope he does what a back up should do, manage the game with a solid running attack and when called upon to throw, make it count. Go Sanchez, Go JETS!!
If he has a bad game, even with only two INTs, it can destroy his confidence. His confidence doesn't appear in good shape anyhow. He is too young and is being moved to fast. WTH is up with people thinking a 22 year old QB with extremely limited experience needs to start? Would this 22 year old kid somehow be ruined if he got benched. Its fans like you that are bad for his career. Is the kid such a head case at 22 that benching him in his rookie season would somehow be devistating to his career? Give me a break and give him one. If he proves today that he is not ready then he should be pulled. He can pick up some bad habits trying to develop to fast. That knife cuts both ways.
Bah, you have to keep his head in the game. Let him play and show him what he did wrong. His old man used to ask him math questions and things like that while they were practicing. Keeping the mind working is how you stop it from dwelling. Bottom line.
Seems like some of you guys are making up excuses for Sanchez. The truth is that he is a rookie and he is making multiple rookie mistakes. The question is whether we are so afraid of harming his apparently fragile confidence that we are willing to lose more games because of those mistakes? Is Sanchez's confidence more important than winning? His job is to deliver the ball to an open receiver. If a Receiver is not open his job is to throw the ball away. Sanchez has not been doing that job very well. Instead he is throwing interceptions by forcing the ball into receivers who are not open, throwing ball directly into the teeth of the defense or throwing the ball off target. You can blame it on the receivers or lack of chemistry all you like, but that is football - you have to make the plays. You have all week to work on chemistry and work w/your receivers. If you lack chemistry you keep on working during the week until you develop it. You don't use it as an excuse for failure. That kind of an excuse is in and of itself a form of failure because it is an admission that you failed to adequately prepare. Its not a lack of chemistry - the truth is that the interceptions are symptomatic of a larger problem: Sanchez is making numerous rookie mistakes and numerous bad decisions. The Defenses are reading him. Defenders are playing him. He stares down his receivers and throws to them and gets picked. That is not lack of chemistry. He makes bad decisions to throw the ball into coverage when he should throw it away. At times his poor decision making manifests itself in INTs which cost his team the opportunities to be successful. Nobody is forcing Sanchez to throw the ball into double coverage or to throw it directly to a defender. That is not the receiver's fault. That is Sanchez's fault. He is getting beat by the defense. Rookie mistakes. He will get better. The question is are we willing to lose games due to rookie mistakes? I think this is a must win game for the Jets. If he comes out and plays like he did against Buffalo and NO and starts throwing INTs then I think you have to sit him down.
He had 2 bad games out of 6. 2 out of 6. 2 out of 6. 2 out of 6. His name was Robert Paulson. His name was Robert Paulson. His name was Robert Paulson......
