In the spirit of this weekend's match-up, a random poll question.
So many people want to fire Schotty - I'm not one of them. But if there's a job opening in the offensive dept. - do you still think Weis can be a viable NFL asset, and one for us?

I do. I think he was in over his head as most of the NE/Bellichick alums find themselves when they're not roaming the sidelines WITH The Hood. Cremel, Mangini, Weis, etc.
I think they can still be decent coordinators, assistant coaches if they don't believe their own hype. Head coaching isn't for everyone.

But for record, I think Schotty>Weis.
75% of the criticism of him comes from the players not executing the play.

No way... do you have any idea how much we'd spend on food every year between Weis and Rex!?

Seriously, if they fire Schotty I'd like to see what Callahan can bring to the table.

It's either Shotty, Callahan or nothing at all we can't afford to put Sanchez through another offensive system

Can't afford to put a rookie through another system? Why not?

because then you end up with a Jason Campbell or Alex Smith type QB.

So everytime an OC is changed it ruins a young QB?

    Maybe those guys just suck.

maybe but it sure didn't help them out making them learn new systems before they had even learned how to be an nfl qb.

if you change your OC on a seasonal basis....yes....that's the risk you run.

keep in mind....the playbook these guys have to learn...takes months, sometimes a couple years to fully understand. It's not a coles notes type book either...

I think Sanchez would flourish in a Weiss system.

How much would Sanchez have to unlearn under a new OC? Considering that the kid hasn't had that much time under ANY NFL system at all should simplify any transition. The terminologies perhaps would be different but the basic premise of executing a modern NFL offense from the Qb position (wildcat not withstanding) shouldn't be radically different and if the kid is as smart as we all hope he is, he'll be fine under Callahan or any other COMPETENT OC.

Remember Hackett's 400 page playbook? How deep into it did this team ever get? Page 50 maybe?

Exactly, your only setting back the development of a QB, unless Norv Turner comes into our lap, who i believe is a great coordinator than no way Jose

we;;, he wouldn't HAVE to be OC, just like Callahan came on as a regular assistant. I don't see how it could be bad if he came on as a QB coach or took over Oline and we promote Callahan

Until Sanchez stops staring down receivers and throwing the ball behind or short to them, it isn't going to matter much what system he's in.

Changing OCs alone is not going to ruin Sanchez. I cannot think of one successful QB who has been under the same OC his entire career. Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger, other Manning; they all have two things in common: Super Bowl rings, and different OCs. Roethlisberger won Super Bowls under different offensive systems. Brady has excelled and made it to Super Bowls under 2 different OCs and systems. Eli didn't win a Super Bowl until after the Giants switched OCs. Peyton might be the lone exception here since I'm convinced that HE was the OC for most of his career.

Schottenheimer did not even want to be here for this season so I doubt he will willingly be here next season. Some team is going to be looking for a new HC next season and they are going to at least interview Schottenheimer. I never expected him to be here next year and neither did Ryan, that's why he brought in Matt Cavanaugh. That's why you always here his name in Sanchez's press conferences.

    As for Weis, fuck 'em.

I voted yes. I am not saying we should can whoever necessary to do this, but i would definitely take him. We have to look at this objectively anyway. Schotty was a darkhorse candidate for a HC position last year. If he finishes the year strong with his offensive scheming, any team loooking for a new offensive identity will show interest. How often does a coordinator leave a team to be a HC and not take a couple people with him? this opens the door for Rex to make a decision as to where he wants to go with the position. If he chose Callahan or Weis, i would be happy with that decision.

its about the language in the system.

Brady has the same language he's had all his career even with the different OCs.

Get rid of the OC, promote from within, and keep the language exactly the same.

Weis is a football genius, having him on the staff in any capacity would be a plus.
