To this day Parcells fingerprints remain on this franchise. Ryan is smart to have him as a confidant: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...rex_ryan_takes_a_page_from_bill_parcells.html Ryan and Parcells talked in early November, shortly before the Breeder's Cup. The two men share a passion for horses, but their chat did include some football. According to Ryan, Parcells essentially told him, "Rex, you have to be more of a head coach."
It would be hysterical if that one phone call change Ryan into the next HC to win 2 SBs. Fin fans would then remember Parcells as the guy who helped the Jets become a great franchise again. But Parcells does this with everyone across the league. If you know him, you can reach out to him. He is a football genius, and has turned around 3 franchises, and is probably on his way to a 4th franchise once he leaves the Fins. I think the Fins go to hell when he leaves because they have shitty actor/musicians as owners. That can ruin any franchise. Oh, and Landshark stadium - they might as well call it gayfish island.
Meh, I don't think the Phins will care that much. I don't think they really have anything to be concerned about. It's not like Parcells gave Rex their playbooks. Unfortunately, whatever advice he got was too little, too late. The teams that are doing good this year, are doing really good. A 10-6 record won't get us into the playoffs unless the Phins have a worse record than us as well, considering they're way ahead of us in division wins. We'd need 2 Patriot losses, 3 Phins losses, and we'd need to win out the rest of our games, which includes Indy and Cinncy...
In retrospect, it was probably not smart for Rex to let this get out. I am sure BP is not happy that ppl know he gave Rex advice. I would not be suprised if it was the last bit he got from BP.
I don't see us tying with Miami in a meaningful manner, meaning with a playoff spot on the line. The teams I'm worried about are New England, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Denver, and San Diego. Here's kind of how it breaks down on tiebreakers at this point: Patriots (7-4) - lose based on division record unless they go 3-2 AND lose @ Buf and Mia. If they do that then we lose on common games because they beat Jacksonville and we didn't. They already beat Tennessee, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Carolina in that scenario. We cannot win the division unless the Patriots collapse and go 9-7 or worse. Miami (5-6) - lose based on head to head, end of story. Cincinnati (8-3) - win based on head to head because we must beat them week 17 to get to a tie at 10-6 with anybody. Pittsburgh (6-5) - Down 1 game in the conference standings to them, muddled outlook in common games with them that will be decided by whether or not they beat Miami. Possible tiebreak win but somewhat unlikely. Baltimore (6-5) - No better than a tie in the conference standings - they'll either beat Pittsburgh and Oakland in going 4-1 down the stretch to put that away or lose to one of them and give us a shot. Common games not a factor because less than 4. Strength of Victory looks good for us because they played the Browns twice and beat them both times. This one is all about the conference standings and in a scenario in which they have to go 4-1 to make it meaningful that's very dicey for us. The odds on 2 of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Baltimore tieing at 10-6 for a wildcard are really really low but it is still mathematically possible - we're golden in that scenario. Jacksonville (6-5) - Head to head and dead. Houston (5-6) - Head to head we win. Tennessee (5-6) - Head to head we win. San Diego (8-3) - Conference record doesn't look good, although given they have to go 2-3 down the stretch to make a tie we could theoretically tie them here. Common games not a factor because less than 4. Strength of Victory is in our favor because they beat Oakland and Kansas City twice. Denver (7-4) - Conference record not good and 3-2 down the stretch for them doesn't help the situation since they probably beat KC twice and Oakland to put it away at 8-4. Common games they are 3-0 and have @ Indy, Oakland left. We're 2-1 and have @ Indy, Cincinnati left. So basically if we go on a tear and finish 10-6 the teams we are most likely to tie with (New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Denver) have a decided advantage on us in the tiebreakers. Our tiebreaker advantages lie with the teams we are much less likely to see sitting there opposite us at 10-6 (Cincinnati, Houston, Tennessee.) If Norv Turner collapses in San Diego we would possibly squeak by there.
^^^ With the way some of these teams are playing now I would not be shocked to see a 9-7 team get in. These teams have lost to some pretty crap teams, I know we are included.
You think you could get some advice from him on making better posts? Alright, JK, couldn't resist :rofl2:
Fans always overrate the effect of something like this. Parcells speaks to guys all over the league. Drew Brees talks to Brian Schottenheimer every week, even to this day. The only guy in the NFL who nobody talks to is Belichick. It's a big fraternity. Everyone is part of it. Sure, guys want to win themselves, but I highly doubt anyone feels like they need to step on someone else to do it (with the possible exception of Belichick.) And it's not like Parcells gave Rex any groundbreaking advice. He told him to do his job.
If I was the owner of the dolphins, I would be pissed that my VP was giving advise to our enemy. It was foolish for Rex to leak this. This is a pretty glaring singal to me that Parcells won't be in miami too much longer and the Cleveland rumors likely have some truth to them.
