No way -- Lowery is a marginal starter. We need to get another CB one way or another. The draft has to be centered on OL/DL solely this year, the O line is always one injury away from disaster. We have no depth.

Ellis is 33 next year, Douglas is 33 next year, Jenkins is 31 next year, Pouha is 31 next year and we have no defensive end or lineman prospect in the hopper other than pitouitua. Don't be surprised if we draft an NT in the first round and a DE in the second round. The 3-4 NT depth in the upcoming draft is devastating, Cody is ranked as the 4th overall DT prospect, he could be available in the mid to late first round where we're picking.

With the correct personnel....Rex will figure it out. He'll have plenty of tape on Welker to watch in the offseason.

If its so hard to stop, why don't more teams do it? I just think Wes Welker (and now Julian Edelmann) are special players and are tougher to stop than prototypical slot receivers.

I think we should look to find someone to cover Moss and have Revis stop Welker. Think about it Moss is loosing a step and can be contained with help over the top. I saw Miami do it to him yesterday (While Welker was killing them). Put Revis on Welker, Have help on Moss and force them to go to a 3rd receiver.

It would have been too good to be true to have Sheppard opposite Revis Christ

Actually, I don't think Lito Shepperd played much, if at all, in the first half against the Patriots. When he played late in the game, the pass defense stepped up.

It was Drew Coleman that was getting burned by Welker. I'm not sure why Lito was not playing, but my father and I just figured he was still hurt.

Well...even if Moss is losing a step...he's still one of the faster wideouts in the league. You basically need a shutdown corner regardless (a protypical fast, tall CB).

If the Jets somehow landed Haden in the draft (total pipedream mind you).....that in itself, would solve this dilemma.

Or the Jets could turn to FA....but decent cover corners are disgustingly expensive (see Nate Clements). I'd have to take a look to see who's available (Dunta Robinson comes to mind...)

So the JETS won't give a 10 million dollar bonus and forfeit a 2nd pick to the Eagles for decent, oft injured CB? That's some breaking news........

CB's like Carlos Rogers, Richard Marshall and Leigh Bodden will be free agents.

I don't get why people hate Sheppard, when he's played he's been good.

he's a piece of glass, his roster bonus is somewhat astronomical come March, and if we pick up his option we'll lose a valuable draft pick (If I'm not mistaken).

    that's 3 strikes right there.

We could always pull a Vilma and bring him back after we don't accept the option.

Lito if nothing else would be very good depth

if he can stay off the injured list, I'd agree with you. But his injury history is becoming a little too "chronic" for my expectations.

see the comments about welker - no corner, coverage, or defense can shut him down. the pats found his niche and religiously feed him plays that are executed perfectly nearly 100% of the time.

now, you can limit his effectiveness by having your top corner on him (not happening with moss on the field), roll the coverages towards his side (the pats have watson and their RB's to offset that), or have LB's/safeties that are coverage worthy that can fill the lanes in the flats to limit his YAC.

the best approach is to contain him and not try to shut him down. let him get his 9 catches for 85 yards.

with sheppard - no way the jets pay the march bonus. let him test the waters and bring him back if the situation presents itself.

    I agree.

Teams of course make mistakes, but the Eagles let him go for a reason. He wants top dollar while missing too many games, and he's not playing at the level he was a couple of years ago. He's a bad fit for the Jets.

I never understood this. Why we never put Revis on Welker and double team Moss?

Welker does all the dirty work for Brady. Moss of course is dangerous even if he's lost a step at his age but Welker is the always the guy who comes up with the big plays and key third downs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets do the same thing New Orleans did with Vilma. He'll be cut, hit the open market and then resigned at a lower deal. With all the other pressing needs on defense I think Lito is a serviceable player when healthy and and the right price is worth bringing back.

pick your poison....Moss is still effective when you double team him with lesser skilled DBs....

To effectively snuff out both Welker & Moss....you need two shutdown corners and a fierce pass rush to disrupt Brady's timing (so he can't check down to Faulk or Welker in the flat).

NFL Network recently re-ran a Philly-Dallas game from a few years ago on "Greatest 4th Quarters" and Lito was awesome, knocking down passes, took one to the house, but I think that was 2006. A while ago.

Regarding NE, since we have Revis to put on Moss, they should double Welker if one guy can't cover him. Next time we play them we should have Jenkins back, which makes a huge difference.

I don't think Lito's that bad, but it's too much too keep him.
