Trent Filfer was on the The Michale Kay Show yesterday about 6 or so. They were asking him questions about Mark Sanchez and the color codes etc. Trent went on to say (I am paraphrasing) that after he broke down the film last year on QB's coming out, he realized that Mark Sanchez was very instinctive and had all the tools to be a great QB. He went on to talk about the coaching staff handcuffing him a bit and having double standards about - go win us a game, but don't get hurt.

The one thing that Trent said that really stuck with me was that he said the existing coaching staff, which he likes and respects, does not have any experience developing a big time QB. He says he's afraid they will get it wrong with Mark and MS will end up being mediocre instead of a great QB because of his skills.

I think what Trent said is very true and he bought up some good points. Since we all know this to be true as well, whom should the front office be bringing in. Schotty doesn't have the experience, but I don't think Callahan has it either. He worked with Gannon but Gannon was already in the league for a while. Schotty worked with Brees and Rivers but I don't think that would compliment Sanchez well.

Whom should T-Rex be considering after this season to work with Mark? Even if Schotty is replaced, and Callahan is promoted, I think we need someone with a proven track record to wok with MS separately from the QB coach or as the QB coach.

    Thoughts???

Lets lure Jim Harbaugh away from Stanford and make him OC and assistant HC.

Seems to be great with a young QB and he has the experience too.
Wishful thinking but it would be nice.

just get rid of Schotty and run the kind of system that Rex wants. A simplified, tough rushing attack combined with easy max protect formations with plenty of checkdowns. Running on 1st down, high percentage passing, simple fucking football.

Not the bullshit Cutesy runs. There wouldn't be a color coding system if Cutesy got it right.

    /\ FAIL.

    I'm being serious.

Not that its a real possibility, but I have read a few articles that Mike Holmgren is considered very successful with grooming young QBs. I'm sure Holmgren wants to be an HC rather than a position coach or coordinator.

Like I've said before, get rid of Schotty, and get Ken Zampese.

Bengals OC, groomed a top 5 QB in the league today. And the offense this year is playing smash mouth football, just what Ryan wants.

Why would the Bengals OC want to come here? He has all the tools to succeed in cincy rather than building from scratch here.

Looking how the 49ers are playing I'm really pissed we let old Jimmy Ray go...

Ok so this HC staff has no experience on how to groom great QBs but how many CS do? Cavanugh is a good fit at QB coach and that is the most important position to develop Mark.

Let's see how things go with this Schotty 2.0 offense (with Rex getting in the mix) and then next year let's take a clear direction.

Hmmm, what big time QB did Charlie Weis develop before Tom Brady? Who did Tom Moore take to great heights before Eli Manning? Does Schotty get any credit for his work with Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers?

I'm not saying Schotty has done a great job as OC or should keep his job after the season. My point is that Dilfer's take is a fail and not based on any evidence.

You can't just hire someone else's offensive coordinator to the same position unless that team gives you permission. It has to be a promotion to hire them away.

Callahan did not work with Gannon.

    Paul Hackett did.

    Worked with Pennington too...

Yeah but if he can orchestrate an offense with Palmer + Benson + those WR + effective OL for a couple of years then he might be looking at HC money.

I know I will hear it for this one but I think if we could possibly bring back Chad to come teach him the tricks of the trade it would really help him out. Chad is a great guy that has a very high QB inteligence that would really help him out.. Chad knew how to manage a game and win and I think he would be a big help to mark

Yes - you are correct. However, I was referring to the fact that Bill Callahan was working with Gannon when he was the HC of the Raiders during the '02 SB run. My apologies for not clarifying.

I don't think I want Paul Hackett back here as much as Gannon raves about him. This calls for an emoticon. :hackett:

I would love to see Pennington come back and help out Sanchez - but Pennington has 0 experience coaching a young QB - or coaching anyone from that matter. Pennington would make an awesome "Speacial Coach" or assistant to the QB coach. I don't think I want him as our B/U QB cause I think he is jury prone - although this would be an even year coming up so he would probably stay healthy. :breakdance:

Hackett is exactly what this team needs.

    For Sanchez, and Schottenheimer.

The short range horizontal aspect to his offense, is precisely what B.S. lacks.

Though he should never be anywhere near the OC headset...
