Both David Harris and Patrick Willis were selected in the 2007 NFL Draft. Willis was a first round selection, 11th overall. Harris was a second round pick, 47th overall. They have extremely similar starts this season, so who would you rather have in Rex Ryan's scheme?

I can't believe someone actually tried to compare these two players. They aren't even on the same level in terms of talent and athleticism.

Patrick Willis the best linebacker in the NFL.

David Harris is a very good 3-4 inside backer. That's the ONLY scheme he can play in. Patrick Willis can dominate in any scheme...outside or inside.

Harris is playing fantastically but loses to Willis. The margin isn't substantial, but there is a gap.

    Agreed

It doesnt really matter though. David Harris is a very good 3-4 ILB. Great pick by Tannenbaum.

There is no doubt Patrick Willie is the better player........ However Harris is excellent in his own right.

Willis may be better, but we had pretty much one of our sickest drafts ever in 2007. We arguably got the the best player in the first round and the second round in Revis and Harris.

I think Willis is still better, but its close. First off Harris is definitely better than Mayo, Mayo has great ability, but his production is nowhere near David Harris. Really Harris and Willis are different types of players.

Willis is the sideline to sideline backer who has his eyes on the QB and can cover receivers and tight ends.

Harris is the sledgehammer that can shed and power through lineman and blitz very well.

If you were running a 3-4 your ideal combo would be these two so you have a complete tandem. That's what every 3-4 aspires to have. If Harris continues to produce like this next year as well than maybe you can say he is right there with Willis. Just because he doesn't have Willis's speed doesn't make him less of a football player, he is just a different type of football player. Willis isn't as stout at the point of attack as Harris.

revis harris keller sanchez greene sheppard jenkins braylon

i believe we 'gave up' draft pics for all the above.

so, is 'quality' better than 'qauntity'?

we've all bashed tanny for giving up toooo many draft pics either for trades or for trading up, leaving us with only 3-4 picks per draft.

my take is we have 'better starters' at the expense of 'quality backup players'.

I think the backup players will be coming soon. Tanny knows that you take exceptional talent when it's available, you can find tons of backup players in any given draft, but how often do you have a chance to get a Revis or Harris?

Willis is the best LB around but having Harris is like having Andre Johnson instead of Larry Fitzgerald. The fact that we picked Harris in the 2nd round is huge though. He clearly should have been a 1st rounder.

    that's an awful comparison.

Harris was projected as a late 1st rounder to the Pats that year. They passed on him, the Jets benefited.

Willis, IMO, is the best MLB in football. Great against the run and pass.

Harris' strenght is the run and blitzing...coverage is still a work in progress, but getting better.

Harris is great, Willis is unbelievable.

Let me put it another way...Willis, it's early, is on track to Canton..Harris is not.

Agreed, that's why Tanny moved up to draft him.

Harris clearly had a late first rd grade.

They are both outstanding LBs. Patrick Willis is the best LB in the NFL right now, but Harris is definitely near the top.

Vilma has been playing great lately too. I remember thinking Willis was a bigger, stronger Vilma when he came out.
